How To Tell What Code Is Touching An Element

Is there an easy way to tell which function is modifying a given element? To oversimplify my problem, I have a div that is mysteriously being cleared out about a second after it gets populated. I have been trying to determine why it is getting cleared with no luck. The website is basically Perl, Mason, and Javascript. I've tried setting breakpoints using Firebug and the IE Development Toolbar, but in both tools, the debugger runs out of code to show before the problem occurs.

I was interested by Paul Irish's presentationon best practices where he mentions building document fragments off-DOM:[URL]... (page 8) I was wondering about the possibility of having some kind of buffering capability in jQuery, eg:

$.buffer().flush(); // write to DOM
I know you can manage this manually as Paul states in his pre and I havn't thought about the implications too deeply, but a nice abstracted way to do this would bereally helpful.I've noticed when using new CSS3 styling like dropshadows, DOM touching get's really expensive.

I want to update an element in my DOM that contains Javascript code when an action X is performed and an AJAX response generated with new Javascript code that is one of the AJAX response variables.
The AJAX request is successfully returned, as is the Javascript JSON response variable. However, I'm having no luck updating the DOM element containing the old JS code with the new JS code. I'm performing these operations using JQuery.

I wrote code to resize a div element.The main aim is to resize the div element from any direction. But it is not working correctly in Mozilla. Even in IE it is working fine only if the mouse is dragged slowly. If we drag the mouse fast it is loosing the control. Are there any browser issues to be fixed. Please check it. i have a menu generated by a list with nested lists. i want the parent link to stay highlighted when the mouse hovers over the sub menus. because those sub menus are also generated by jquery (qtip), CSS alone won't do it (triedul.topnav li:hover a {background-color: #F00;}).is there a way to do this using jquery?

I am trying to make a gui for clients to edit a php page that displays html and javascript.
I want the user to be able to move html elements around and even edit it like add effects like fade in and out etc.
Then after all the changes I want to overwrite the existing php file that does this for that user. how can you make such changes and then save it to a file?
It's an html / javascript editor but using a gui instead of allowing them to directly touch the code. It would be a security risk if I allow such a thing. So I need to program a interface that would make such changes and save them to file.
Like how can you delete and add new javascript code to the file?

I am a novice, almost to an intermediate-level JavaScript guy, so much of this is new to me. I appreciate your patience reading this.
I have a routine that creates some HTML on the fly (updateFilters() function) and after the HTML is created, I attempt to access some fields (elements) on the form itself.
I works fine if I place an alert() statement after the HTML is created, but when I remove, the code errors out.
I have tried the setTimeout() statement, but I cannot grab the element --- undefined or null is returned. It seems that the form is the only element I can get a handle on --- everything else is undefined or null...

This works fine when I place this code under the html in the main source, but if I try to add this Jquery code to an external js sheet it doesnt seem to work?
Currently my js sheet is called in the header, when I move this link to the footer of my page the code works again, so Im guessing this has something to do with where the jquery code is placed in relation to the code Im trying to hide?
How I can keep my js in the header but still make the content disappear on click?

I hope whether such a script exists for what am wanting to do. From time to time, I need to send password information or login details and password information to some users. At the moment, am doing it via email with a subject named FYI and the body of the email basically just contain the login and the password or in some case, just the password. What am wanting to know is whether I can put these information into a HTML file which contains an obfuscated Javascript with a button that a user will click that will prompt for his login information and then will display the password. In its simplest form, I guess I am looking for a Javascript that will obfuscate a HTML file that contains the password. I found some website that offers such service as obfuscating a HTML file but am hoping it can be done via a Javascript so it is at least "portable" and I do not have to be online.

I am about to port an app using html, css, and javascript where most of the content is mixed with the presentation and behaviour.
The question I have been asked is: even though this older style is difficult to maintain, will the method proposed my the authors of Simply Javascript perform adequately on a page with hundreds of entries like the one below? I'm having some problems understanding the append() function. What I'd like to do is select an element using it's ID and add a row to the table with a HTML form element. The table is dynamically generated using a Django template ( form.as_table() ) so I'm not able to alter the original HTML markup too much.

I have created a form with malsup's Form Plugin wherein it submits on change of the inputs. I have set up my jQuery script to index drop down menus and visible inputs, and uses that index to determine whether keydown of tab should move focus to the next element or the first element, and likewise with shift+tab keydown. However, instead of moving focus to the first element from the last element on tab keydown like I would like it to, it moves focus to the second element. i have got about 50 definition lists on one html-page witch all look linke this:

Is this possible with JQuery? I have the following code which I think Should do this, but it's not working :/These are two different functions which I've been testing, and the html element is supposed to create a dropdown list via some PHP which will have the option "Other" within it.
