Form Elements Show Above Layers (IE/N4)

Oct 13, 2001

Have form elements between two background layers (z-index set to -1 and 0). But when I show a layer above the form elements (triggered from a menu drop down list of dynamically produced data from a database table) they all appear above the layer (N4) and the select drop down shows above in the layer (IE). I have set the z-index to 2 for the above layer. Even tried placing the form into a layer and setting the z-index to 1!!

Show Hide Layers

Apr 16, 2007

Code:

The idea is that the blue help text rechtangle will have to remain
visible when mouse over (because there will be soon links in it) and
invisible when onmouseout.

I have now placed javascript on the small numbered balls and within
the rechtangle itself.

But I have it in a way that when "onmouseout" the blue help rechtangle
will be hidden. But now the onmouseout event is acting like
onmouseover. Any Ideas to do this correctly? So right now when you
onmouseover it it will disappear :S

If I get this working I can start thinking of putting a timeout on the
rechtangle for it to disappear within a couple of seconds after
"onmouseout"

Show/hide Layers

Feb 21, 2004

I'm designing a site that implements popup menus. There are several menus and each one is called by a mouseover event on an image. Each menu is set to show for about 3 seconds, and then it will go away. The only problem I am having is if you roll over two or more different images, both of the popup menus will display. I need some help on showing only one popup at a time. I'm sure it would be something like this...

HTML Code:

i = popup numbers; //which should be either 1 or 0
if (i == 1) {
hide(previous popup);
show(getElementById);
}

else {
show(getElementById);
}
I'm just not sure on how to determine the previous popup. Any suggestions?

Show Form Elements By Selecting Checkbox?

May 11, 2011

Trying to build a dynamic part on my form by using a checkbox and <span>. Found a script that does exactly what i want, but uses a 'radio' in the script instead of a checkbox. And at that spot i need to be able to make multiple selections, so i need checkboxes.. In this specific case it's about geslacht='v' checkbox

My problems are:

1. My span doesn't start off at invisible
2. My function match_personalia_geslacht() works with a onChange, not with a onSelect.

Don't know how to get the same result with a checkbox.. So if someone can help me, i would be a happy man.

Show/hide Elements Of A Form Based On Drop Down Box Selection

Feb 13, 2006

I am setting up a contact form, and want to have a drop down box with a handful of options. Clicking one option should display fields to input username & password, whereas all others will not. So far, I've tried and (replacing 'none with 'block' for the option that is supposed to show the input fields) but neither does what I need it to. I'm fairly new to javascript, just muddling my way through with the aid of tutorials.

JQuery :: Show/hide Form Elements Based On Radio Button Selections ?

Mar 17, 2011

I have a set of radio buttons on my pricing page:

And a corresponding text_field input element div I'd like to display based on which radio button the user selects:

When the page loads, I'd like to see:

When the user clicks on a (different) radio button, or clicks one for the first time, I'd like whichever div is currently showing to be hidden, and the newly selected one to be shown.

Right now I have jQuery code at the bottom of my page that looks like this:

For each of the four options.

When the page loads, the correct div is shown, and when I select a new button, the new div is shown, but the already showing one isn't hidden.

I've read some posts that suggest using change() instead of click(), but others indicate that's problematic in IE.

Validation Of Form With Layers

Aug 9, 2003

I've tested a very good validation script called(fValidate ). Now, I want it to implement into a php-form which has 2 layers. Layers are called with following code:

function showLayer(layer)
{
strHidden = ( !document.layers ) ? "hidden" : "hide";
strVisible = ( !document.layers ) ? "visible" : "show";

if( document.layers ){
lyrForm1 = document.idForm1;
lyrForm2 = document.idForm2;

} else if( document.getElementById ){

lyrForm1 = document.getElementById("idForm1").style;
lyrForm2 = document.getElementById("idForm2").style;

} else if( document.all ){

lyrForm1 = document.all["idForm1"].style;
lyrForm2 = document.all["idForm2"].style;
}

lyrForm1.visibility = (layer == "idForm1") ? strVisible : strHidden;
lyrForm2.visibility = (layer == "idForm2") ? strVisible : strHidden;

return false;
}

[<A HREF="javascript:void(0);" showLayer('idForm1');">page 1</A>]
[<A HREF="javascript:void(0);" showLayer('idForm2');">page 2</A>]
.

When I submit the form, the validation script alerts the first "wrong" field which is on layer 1 (invisible because the submit button is on layer 2). Normally it goes to that wrong field, but instead it submits the form...

Does anyone has any experience with validation of layered forms?

There is also the possibility of making a custom validation function. I could make use of it, but then... how does javascript know on which layer the wrong field is/was...?

JQuery :: Show / Hide Elements Or Remove / Add Elements Based On Radio Selection By User?

Mar 14, 2010

I have a page I am working and I am having some trouble with: I need to show and hide areas based on a radio selection. I initally started using the show / hide feature in Jquery but the problem is the elements need to be removed but then put back if the user selects the radio buttonagain as it has form elements that have validaion on them. The validation is still trying to validate the form elements becuase they are still on the page but just not showing. This is the radio group the user makes the selection from:

<input name="terms_usr" type="radio" id="terms_usr_1" value="1"/>
<label for="terms_usr_1">Credit Card</label>
<input type="radio" name="terms_usr" id="terms_usr_2" value="2"/>
<label for="terms_usr_2">C.O.D</label>

Hide Form <select> Menus In IE From Appearing On Top Of DHTML Layers

Mar 14, 2006

I created this script because <select> form menus in IE on Windows appear on TOP of my DHTML layer navigation menus = client NOT happy and blames YOU. To avoid this crappy situation you can use my script to hide a certain number of the <select> menus when your DHTML layer nav menus are active.

Place this JavaScript in the <head> somewhere.

<script type="text/javascript">

// code to hide/show form menu drop downs ie/win courtesy of www.dreamingdigital.ca
// function should take in the parameter "visible" or "hidden" (the_action)

function dd_hide_show_selects(the_action) {
var dom = (document.getElementById) ? true : false;
var windows = (navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf("windows")>-1) ? true : false;
var ie5 = ((navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf("msie")>-1) && dom) ? true : false;
var cp_selects = document.getElementsByTagName("select");
var number_to_hide = 0;
var number_needed_hidden = 4; // 4 was the number of selects I needed to hide

if (windows && ie5) {
if (cp_selects.length > number_needed_hidden) {
number_to_hide = number_needed_hidden;
}
else {
number_to_hide = cp_selects.length;
}
for (var i=0; i<number_to_hide; i++) {
cp_selects[i].style.visibility = the_action;
}
}
}

</script>

An example of its use would be:

<a href="somewhere.html" title="Some text to describe the link."
onMouseOver="dd_hide_show_selects('hidden');" onMouseOut="dd_hide_show_selects('visible');">Something</a>

Hide/show Elements

Jun 11, 2005

I'm working on a form that hides/shows certain elements when certain things are selected.

In the file I'm working with, when you select the "problem" radio button, the "problem" drop down menu appears. When you select the "request" radio button, the "request" drop down menu appears

Now, when I try to make a selection from the "problem" drop down menu, nothing appears like it should (Computer, Monitor, Printer, and AVPeriph are the active ones). Everything stays hidden.

With each of those 4 selections, a table element should appear. Any ideas to what the problem is? I'm assuming it's the javascript since I don't know it too well.

JQuery :: Show/Hide Elements With Same Class?

oving jQuery at the moment, and have sort of hit a hiccup with showing and hiding specific elements with the same class. My idea is, what if I wanted to add a little button to show and hide the contents of a specific comment on a forum post, or blog, whatever. This would be easily done with id's but I'd like to just apply a class to each one of them and allow them to hide their contents. Here is the javascript and html as an example of what I am talking about.

Prototype.js Hide/show With Variable Html Elements?

May 27, 2009

I have been staring at this problem for too long and most likely missing a simple solution so I hope somebody can take my blindfold off and show me the way The markup (which comes from a CMS and I cannot change it) I am working with is akin to:

<div id="faq">
<p><strong class="open">FAQ 1</strong></p>
<p>FAQ 1 content lorem ipsem lorem ipsem ad infinitum</p>

[code]....

Notice how the second fo 3 FAQ sections has 2 paragraphs under the 'trigger' rather than 1? Therein lies my problem, because what I am doing with prototype.js is:

1.) Loop through page and collect all <p>'s
2.) do a .each iteration and attach an onclick event on $$('p strong.open') - assume this node for each iteration is now var 'trigger'
3.) run Element.hide() on trigger.next()
4.) in the onclick event, run Element.show() for trigger.next()

- If you are still following so far - my problem is that next() only shows/hides one single element and that is the <p> holding the content - which is fine except when there are 2 or even more <p>'s with content I need to act on. I;ve experimented with nextSiblings and adjacent() and I end up with too many nodes - basically every <p> in the entire document. I just want 'hide all P's after the trigger P up until the next p > strong.open
