Form Validation - Script Stops And Returns True
Jan 30, 2011
New to javascript and I have the following code in onSubmit() validation:
else if (cofaCOURRIEL == null || cofaCOURRIEL == "") {
alert('Le champ COURRIEL doit ĂȘtre rempli.');
document.forms["COFA_AIG"] ["COURRIEL"].focus();
return false;
}
else if (cofaCOURRIEL) {
if ( (atPOS < 1) || (dotPOS < atPOS + 2) || ((dotpos + 2) >= cofaCOURRIEL.length) ) {
alert('Adresse de courriel invalide.');
document.forms["COFA_AIG"] ["COURRIEL"].focus();
return false;
}}
else if (cofaDATE == null || cofaDATE == "") {
alert('Le champ DATE doit ĂȘtre rempli.');
document.forms["COFA_AIG"] ["DATE"].focus();
return false;
}
I understand it is not the best way to validate client side, but I will be doing php server side validation as well. My problem is that once the variable "cofaCOURRIEL" is valid, the script stops and returns true....not sure why...I'm guessing I'm missing an "else" statement after the embedded "if" statement, but I'm only guessing and if I'm correct, I wouldn't know what to put in the else statement to let it not break out of the validation. Any input?

I'm brand new to jquery, and am trying to set up a dynamic navigation dropdown which is populated with XML by our system (which I can't change.) For some reason, IE6 is showing space where the unused <li></li> tags are. I am trying to create a jquery code which will detect whether or not a link is present in the <li> so I can turn the display off or on dynamically. The relevant jquery code is here:[code]It should eventually appear like this, the way it does in Firefox due to CSS styling:[code]Which means that somehow, it is reading the <a> even when there isn't one.

This is driving me freaking crazy. I have a RegExp, and a String. When I alert RegExp.test(String), I get "true." Sweet. Then I run String.replace(RegExp, ""), in an attempt to get rid of whatever was matched. But that does not change the string at all.
Am I misunderstanding replace, or what?

I've got a list in which each item has a link that shows and hides a div, and also changes text of the the link. I want to write the code like this:
$(".log a").click(function() { $("#panel-" + $(this).data("build_id") + ":hidden").trigger('showLog'); $("#panel-" + $(this).data("build_id") + ":visible").trigger('hideLog'); return false; });
... but that doesn't work. It seems as though if the first selector returns no elements that the 2nd line is not executed. I might be wrong about the diagnosis, but the symptom is that I can show the log, but can't then hide it, whereas if I start with all the panels visible and remove the first selector, the hideLog event is triggered as expected.What does work is this:
$(".log a").click(function() { var panel = $("#panel-" + $(this).data("build_id")); if (panel.css("display") == 'none') { panel.trigger('showLog'); } else { panel.trigger('hideLog'); } return false; });
[code]....

I'm building a web app the processes information into a DB. I'm attempting to write a JS validation page. On this page I'm also trying to make the button perform a submit only if the validation returns as true.
Somehow I would like to say if all fields are true then submit to submission.php.

I've setup a form on my website and added a simple validation script to check a few of the fields. After all the validations are done I want the submit button to process two other functions that will handle the submission of the form.
The problem is that if the validation returns true the script just stops and doesn't run the other two functions.
Here is my validation script:
Then on my submit button I have:

I have a form with multiple fieldsets which are visible conditionally. There are three submit buttons "Abandon", "Save" and "Save & Continue". Each button should validate specific controls of the form and submit it. I tried setting "onsubmit: false" and checking for "$('#myForm').valid ()" on click of these buttons., but that validates all controls of the form.

Currently using: version: 2.47 (04-SEP-2010)
If I have iframe: true, my JSON response back is always:
<head></head><body>{"WEBSITE_URL":"test","ASSETTYPE_ID":0.0,"ASSET_RESULT":{"ASSET_ID":9,"ERROR":false},"ASSETTYPE":"link","NAME":"test","DESCRIPTION":"test"}</body>
Was this done for a specific reason (note the Head/Body tags)? Is there a safe way of parsing this JSON request out? Am I doing something wrong?

I'm using the Validation plugin for JQuery and was wondering if there was a function to submit the form without causing it to validate the form. I have a table with a list of radio-buttons and above that is a drop down list of states. The drop down list of states is used to filter the table rows and when the selected item changes it posts-back to the server (via $("#frm").submit()). I don't want this to cause any validation to occur. Is there another function I can call besides submit(), or some other method?

My form isn't returning any results when submitting the form if the user hits the <spacebar> or the <enter> key on the keyboard when tabbed over the image submit button.
<input name="Submit_notes" type="image" value="Submit_notes" src="images/pp_but_blu_addentry.gif" />
Should I make it so the user can't submit with the keyboard? (if so how) or is there another way?

I have a simple form here with a function to validate it, but I have no idea where I'm going wrong. I'm very familiar with ActionScript and C++, so I get the coding aspect of it, but one thing I'm not familiar with is how exactly JavaScript and HTML communicate. The problem is that this form always submits, even if my function returns false...but I can't even see if it returns false anyway, because alert() doesn't seem to be working either.
Here's what I have for my HTML:

I have my website www.gebcn.com. If you view source you will see all that I have done, but more importantly my problem. I have the JS code at the top there and I am unable to W3C validate my HTML because of the JS. I am using XHTML strict and would like to stay using it.
The JS I have at the top is my form validation code. I am able to do any validating that I need with this "snippet" of code, I have shrank it from my library version just to use for this newsletter. Until now W3C validating was not important now for some reason it is and I am faced with this problem.
I am not a Javascript guy more of a HTML/CSS guy and I can manipulate JS to suit my needs.
<problem> I have tried to make this "snippet" of JS code an external file but receive multiple errors with the JS calling for the FORM NAME as it is not on the same page. The form NAME=NEWSLETTER is another problem, as W3C says I am unable to use attribute "NAME" in this location. <problem> I would like to keep the JS close to how it is now as I have a library to use this JS over and over again.

I'm having trouble changing the font color of my labels ONLY when I stop the form from submitting due to blank fields. I'm not sure whether if just changing my CSS will achieve what I want, or am I going to have to add somethig to my if else statement, or both? I would think I would need to change CSS to :
label.onfocus {
color:red;
}
but a little confused on what else.
