Force Focus On Submit Button In IE
Jan 23, 2006
I have an application built in PHP which takes a code and redirects a user to the appropriate website.
This works fine when the user enters code and selects the submit button. However if the user enters the code and just selects enter on the keyboard the page refreshes, does not redirect to any URL and deletes the original entry.
Is there anyway to use unobtrusive JS to enforce the focus on the submit button as soon as the page loads?

Is there a reason why setting focus to a textbox input, also gives
focus to a submit button on the page, to where if you click enter in
the text box, the submit button will be clicked.

I'm trying to write a shopping basket in ASP and I need to force the user to choose one or more "Option" radio button(s) before allowing the form to submit.
For example:
<input type="radio" name="option1" value="1">Red
<input type="radio" name="option1" value="2">Blue
<input type="radio" name="option1" value="3">Green
<input type="radio" name="option2" value="1">Small
<input type="radio" name="option2" value="2">Medium
<input type="radio" name="option2" value="3">Large
I want the user to HAVE to choose a colour and size from the above options before the form will submit or else they will get a Javascript popup message asking them to make a choice. (There may also be more/less options so it needs to be dynamic)
I know ASP inside out but very little knowledge of Javascript so once i have the basics of how to do it I can make the code dynamic. There will be a maximum of 5 "Options" for a product and a maximum of 6 choices for each Option.

I am setting up a form to enter a chat queue on my website for work. The form script comes from the company we are using to host the chat, but the problem is that customers don't have to fill out anything to enter the queue. I want the users to have to fill out 3 of the 5 fields before they are able to click the sumbit button. I've found a few scripts on the web that looked they like would work, but they were all for radio selections, and I don't have enough javascript knowledge to switch the correct parameters to work with input.
This is the script I am using;
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "[URL]">
<html xmlns="[URL]">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
</head>
<body>
<form name="channel00000" action="[URL]" method="post"> .....
I need the name, comment1, and comment4 sections to be filled out before the submit will go through. I don't care if the button is not available until they are filled or a popup that asks for them to be filled out, just so long as they can't enter chat without us knowing their name and whatnot. From what I understand, the bulk of the form script needs to stay the same so it directs to us and not another company.

I am a complete JS newbie. I am trying to make one radio button assume a certain value when another one in a different group is clicked. This is a conference registration form for which most applicants will pay, but some do not. It is passing form data to a ColdFusion backend, and
I simply wish to havethe non-paying applicants have the no-pay "payment type" automatically selected when they select the no-pay registration type. I have tried the following with no success (in IE 6.0; I want to test it here first)
<script language="JavaScript" TYPE="text/javascript">
function forceCompPay() {
if (document.forms[1].groupType == "speaker") {
document.forms[1].groupPayment[comp].checked = true
}
}
</script>
</head>
the "master" button is:
<cfinput type="radio" name="type" value="speaker"
onClick="forceCompPay()">Speaker
the "slave" button is:

I want to enforce a click on the facebook share button.
I was thinking something like this:
javascript:window.location="http://www.facebook.com/connect/prompt_feed.php?locale=en_US&message=hi"; javascript:function selectFirst() { publish.focus(); publish.click();} selectFirst();
Something wrong with that code? What code would work? Is it not possible?

In the following .submit function, I am attempting to grab the value of the selected option in the facilityCodes dropdown list when I click the submit button and then during the submit function,select the facilityCode again in the dropdown list when the page reloads and then disable the list so that the user cannot change it.However,the situation is when I reload the page after the submit button is clicked the dropdown defaults to the first option and the list is enabled.I apparently am not understanding how.submit works so that I'm selecting the option I'm defining in my code below and then disabling the list AFTER the page reloads due to an error on the page. My question is how can I accomplish this?Here is my code:
$(function() {
$("#ARTransferForm").submit(function() {
var msgsCount = 0;[code]....

i have a form with two buttons to submit it. One button (must be left) goes to a detail-page and the second button (must be right) goes to a basket-page. Also there is a input-field.
My problem: onLoad i give focus to the input-field. But when user submits the form with return, the first button ("show details") is executed, and you see the detail-page.
But i want to give focus to the ("into basket") button, but it comes after
the detail-button in source.
I cant change the buttons because it's not allowed by the designer :-(
Also on load of that page, the border of the first submit button is more
thick (i think 2 px) than the second (maybe 1px). How can i submit to basket, with the return-key and give them the same look?

I have created a form with malsup's Form Plugin wherein it submits on change of the inputs. However, after each submission, the form loses focus, which forces the user to click on the next input element after each input change, which is a bit annoying. Is there a way I could set the form to automatically focus on the next input element after the submission depending on which input element the form was submitted from? [code]...

My script is designed to show a simple question and the user submits the answer using onchange via the tab key. If the answer is correct the next question appears and so on. But if it's wrong there's an alert and the user stays at that question and has another go to enter a correct answer to move on. It works well as long as user gets answer right. If they enter a wrong answer I'd like that answer box to clear and be focussed (ie cursor in place). Problem is, using the tab key has already sent the cursor off to highlight the address bar! I can get it to work if each answer box has a submit button and I use onclick but I really want to change the submit function to a keystroke, pref TAB.
Code:
<HTML><HEAD>
<SCRIPT language=javascript type=text/javascript>
function thetests(){
document.theform.prob1.focus();
}

I have a page with many forms that I need to change from a post to an ajax call. That part is working, no problem, but now I want to disable the submit button while it's waiting on the server response and then re-enable it when the response comes back.
Here's what I have:
$(function() {
$('form').each(function() {
$(this).submit(function(){
[code]...
I can't figure out what my selector should be to get the submit button of the form that's being submitted. What should I be using instead? Also, if the call errors out, I'd like to just post the form as usual.

I have a form without a submit button. It gets submitted programmatically with document.form.submit().
What I need is to be able to disable this form's submit capability on page load and then reenable it at some later point. Remember there is no 'input' button element.
Code:
What I've tried so far is like this:
savedSubmit = document.inputs.submit;
document.inputs.submit = None;
then later:
document.inputs.submit = savedSubmit;
but this does not work. How can I do this?

I've got a pretty basic form that i need to be able to "submit" by simply loading it in the browser address, not click the submit button. is there a way to do this? Here is the code:
<form name="newform" action="/dir/submition.cfm?z=1&Myid=1" method="post">
<input type="hidden" name="userID" value="27566">

if i load just http://www.mysite.com/dir/submition.cfm?z=1&Myid=1, it doesnt do anything because it doesnt have the userID variable, but im not sure how to include that into the address...

I have a form where i use normal buttons with javascript so i can have multiple actions and I don't use a submit button. I can submit the form fine using document.adminform.submit(); but i have an onsubmit="return submitForm"; attached to my <form> tag.
If i had a submit button, it would call the javascript function, but seeing as i don't have a submit button, how can i call that function. here is the bits causing problems
PHP Code:
<form name="adminform" id="adminform" method="post" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']; ?>" onsubmit="return submitForm();">
<p><input type="button" class="back" id="backbutton" title="go back" onclick="performAction('back');" />
<input type="button" class="save" id="savebutton" title="save" onclick="performAction('save');" /></p>
[Code]...
when the save button is clicked, a javascript function is called which does the ocument.adminform.submit(); but i need to do call the submitForm() function at the same time
