Filling Form Data On Existing Pages?
Jun 7, 2011
My friends and I have developed a chat service that uses Live Profiles to login to chat. The issue I am having is I need to autofill the login page with my email/password to speed up login and I was told JS would be the best way to do it, however, I can't seem to figure out how, lol. I tried sending the login info in a url and bookmarking the url to no avail. The link to the page is below.

I have a database site I am currently designing, and would like to use a single page with forms in external html documents to undertake admin tasks (eg. add/remove records etc.)
I have managed to successfully load the form html into the necessary div using the $.load function, however, when I try to process the form, with this code:
$("#add_form").validate({
debug: false,
rules: {
maker: "required",
[Code]....
which asks 'process_form.php' to process the data, it doesn't seem to send the data in the form to the page. to confirm this, and whilst trying to get the system to work, the 'process_form.php' consists of 2 lines,:
echo $_GET['maker'];
echo '123456';
(ie. one line to return a string literal, and one line to return one of the variables which SHOULD be passed by the form)
This results in just the 123456 string being returned.
I have tried several things: loading the script above in the head of the 'parent' html page (ie. which the form is loaded into); - does not properly fire at all;
loading the script 'in-line' in the imported html - this leads to the result given above; running the script in an external script.js file through an onsubmit directive on the form...does not appear to properly fire the script.

I'm trying to compare incoming JSON data to the existing data to see if there are any changes, but for giant objects like:
Code:
[{"date":"2011-09-03 23:06:03","notifier_id":"1","type":"1","unread":"0"},{"date":"2011-09-05 00:37:46"}]
if (JSON.stringify(oldData) == JSON.stringify(newData))
This doesn't seem to work. I've tried using:
Code:
escape("'" + JSON.stringify(W.notification.list + "'"))
but that ignores the objects properties and returns something like 22%5Bobject%20Object%5D%2C%5Bobject

Im trying to work out a way of entering the contents of a div (which changes regularly) into a form field when it is focused on.The issue is that the div containing the text value is in an iframe of a php file (gallery.php).The div (#lbBottom) text contents that I need to use is the caption of the current photo open with a light-box style jquery plugin (slimbox). The gallery is formed using the php and needs to be in an iframe to align the light boxcorrectly. #lbBottom is generated by title="Code: $alttag1" and give a result of Code: +the current photo number. Ideally it is just the photo number (last 2 characters) that I need but the contents of the div will do!

I have ONE page which consists of php, html, and javascript, all on the same page. I have 3 different listboxes on a form, their named id's are: "strike", "grapple", and "strength". I have a span tag named id as: "pa". I Have a variable which is constant and named $totalValue and its vale is: 30, I have another variable named: $availableValue which will get its initial value from $totalValue. What I want to do is this, a user will choose his/her first list box. When the uses clicks the arrow on the listbox it drops down filled with values to choose from, these values come from the $availableValue variable and should be displayed as: 1,2,3,4,5,etc,etc,etc, after the user makes their selection the value of $availableValue is decreased by the amount of the user's selected choice and the value of the $availableValue is displayed on the html part of the page in a span tag.
The user will then choose his/her second listbox, upon clicking that arrow the listbox drops down displaying the REMAINING values from $availableValue variable and displays them as: 1,2,3,etc,etc,etc, after the user makes their selection the value of $availableValue is decreased by the amount of the user's selected choice and the value of the $availableValue is displayed on the html part of the page in a span tag. The user will then choose the last listbox, and upon clicking its arrow the list drops down with the LAST REMAINING values from $availableValue and will be displayed as: 1,2,etc,etc, after the user makes their selection the value of $availableValue is decreased by the amount of the user's selected choice and the value of the $availableValue is displayed on the html part of the page in a span tag.
The user should be able to choose which ever listbox he/she wants as their first listbox. So for argument's sake lets say the user chooses listbox "grapple" first, but of course the user could have chosen any of the 3 listboxes first, but he/she choose "grapple" first. The "grapple" listbox should fill with values 1 to 30, ex: 1,2,3,4,up to 30, the user selects value 5 from "grapple", the $availableValue variable will decrease by 5 and the value of $availableValue is displayed in a span tag. The user then chooses listbox "strength", its values should be filled and displayed with values from 1 to 25, the user selects 8 from "strength", the $availableValue variable decreases by 8 and the value of $availableValue is displayed in a span tag. Finally the user selects listbox "stamina", it listbox displays the values from 1 to 17, the user selects 17 from "stamina" and the $availableValue variable decreases by 17 and the value of $availableValue is displayed in a span tag. All this should happen BEFORE I submit the form via php code.
The code below, including the html, is ALL on one page named: createfighter.php
<?php
$totalValue = 30;
$availableValue = $totalValue;
$action = $_REQUEST['action'];
$strike = $_POST['strike'];
$grapple = $_POST['grapple'];
$strength = $_POST['strength'];
?> .....

I've made this javascript portion to a site for a company that I am working for and I'd like to use it to fill in a form on another part of the website. Unfortunately we bought the rest of the website from basically like a web template company so they wont let us change the script on that actual page. Is there anyway that I can take my info from my javascript page, then use it to fill in the info on the other page without actually editing the html of that page?

Is there any way I could fetch data from another web page?
Things like current weather, and rate of exchange?
I would search the data for example by
-loading a web page somehow (IFRAME?)
-going through all <td> tags in it and
-if the <td> had a spesific text, like "weather in Fooland" then
-I'd jump to the next <td> tag and take the text inside it, that hopefully had the data I was looking for.
I used an IFRAME to load a web page. It's id is called "myiframe"
var myIframe = document.getElementById("myiframe")
var iframeBody = myIframe.body;
var paragraphs = iframeBody.getElementsByTagName("p");
document.write(paragraphs.length); //this writes 0!
the page I loaded on the IFRAME has paragraph elements right on body. Why can't I find them?
I tried using node iterator (document.createNodeIterator() ? ) too, but that didn't work at all! I tried it without the IFRAME too. If you have any guesses what it might be, please tell me. Should it work in Mozilla? Should I create the node Iterator only after the page has finished loading?

Another newbie question here, I'm sure. I'm trying to modify an existing form with an existing validation scheme. I have to put in something so that the phone field that is entered actually contains numbers. There is no need for dashes, parens or any other divider, but we don't want to exclude them either.
I have gotten as far as this: [URL]..110620_1a.html (new isPhone function that doesn't break anything added at lines 119 - 127) When I try to add the call for the checking however, the entire checking scheme breaks, and the form just executes: [URL]...._110620_1.html (Added code is at lines 190-198)

Is it possible to remote modify an already open window form from a
local HTML file? Example (simplified):
1. I have a local HTML file, where I have some kind of link. When this
link is pressed, then I need to add a "searchstring" into...
2. the second already opened window form (e.g. Google)
I need to do this to avoid any copy / pasting of these values.
All I have read about is that this is possible if I use Parent/Child
windows, but I would like to know if this is possible to do between two
independant pages?

I've been getting some complaints from my users: when filling out forms, while on a select box, pressing the backspace key would actually mimick pressing the back button (like history.go(-1) ...)
Then I realized that if the user wasn't in a textbox or a textarea, pressing the backspace key would send them back one page. Now I've got a multi-page form in an iFrame and that's really screwing their inputs up as it loses all the information entered in that form (pressing back doesn't submit/post backwards... I wish it would!).
So anyway, here's the script I'm using on all my pages so that the user won't 'accidentally' go back a page. (In my opinion, with my users anyway, a user shouldn't need to hit the backspace unless they're in a textbox or a textarea).
//so backspace doesn't go back
document.onkeydown = checkForBackspace;
function checkForBackspace() {
//we can backspace in a textbox
if(window.event.srcElement.type.match("text")) {
return true;
}
if(window.event && window.event.keyCode == 8) {
// try to cancel the backspace
window.event.cancelBubble = true;
window.event.returnValue = false;
return false;
}
}
This is IE only. srcElement is an IE thing.. I believe most other browsers use target. I don't know what else would be different, but anyway, that's what I'm using.
BTW: If you're wondering why anyone would press backspace in a selectbox, well I recently showed them that you can press the first letter of an item in the list to quickly jump to that item. Well, perhaps naturally, if they press the wrong key, instead of pressing the right key, they try to hit backspace first. Just if you were curious... I guess checkboxes and radios could be similar?

I'm new to Javascript, and I don't know how I should create HTML forms that don't redirect to a different page. I'm planning on making an application that lets you create a quiz and take it with as many questions as you want (using loops and arrays). I've done this in a number of languages, including Javascript, but I don't know how to tie this in to HTML so I don't have a web app that relies on pop-ups as the UI.
When you make a form, it asks for the action, which should be a different page. It then redirects to this page if a button is clicked, for instance. Given the nature of this quiz program that can theoretically create more questions than I have the ability to make separate web pages for, how do I do this? I don't plan on making 1,000 different pages with nearly identical code; this is what the loop is for.

There are multiple intranet pages with a list of names on them that are updated regularly.At the moment, there is no easy way to check if a name is on the pages without going in to each one at a time and searching them individually.
Is there a javascript script I could use to search all of the pages at the same time, and if a match is found, open the relevant page and highlight the result?

Relatively new to jQuery but have a problem with getting data to display.Using a webform with 2 forms. User slects and inputs data into the first form, clicks a button then using jQuery .ajax submits the serialized data to a php script. The script processes the input into multiple paragraphs of text which is based on the input from the first form.The data is returned to the webpage and displayed in a text area (of the 2nd form) where the user can edit it to fine tune the wording. The 2 forms are displayed in different tabs so it is easy to move back and forward between the 2 forms.
The problem occurs when the user goes back to the first form and enters or selects different text and then click the submit button to generate a whole new text for insertion into the textarea on the second form. For certain fields the modified text is displayed.However if the whole of the text in the textarea is deleted, then the user clicks the submit button to re-generate the text content area then nothing at all is ever interted into the textarea. If have user alert to check that data is returned from the php handler and this text is correct. BUT when I click on the tab to see the textarea (id is "draftrec") there is no text inserted. The relevant function is below and the line that should insert the text into the textarea is:
$("textarea#draftrec").html(data).show();
//------------------------------------------------------
$("form#form1").submit(function(e){

If a person selects radio button"view" and clicks submit send form values to page2.

However, the fields do not have input IDs; they only have span IDs. I've tried using the span IDs, but it doesnsn't work. Here is the code I'm trying to use:

I have one combo (select) called "uso_buque". Then I have two more combos the first one called "tipo_uso" and the second called "zona_uso". I have a $.ajax call wich make a call to a PHP method. This PHP method based on "uso_buque" selection returns two differents arrays in JSON format. This one for example:
["Pesca con Cordeles","Pesca con Palangre","Pesca con Nasas","Pesca con Chinchorro","Pesca con Filete","Pesca con Redes","No Aplica"]
["MAR TERRITORIAL Z.E.E ORIENTAL","DEPENDENCIAS FEDERALES","AGUAS INTERNACIONES","No Indica"]
Then I need to fill "tipo_uso" with first array data and "zona_uso" with the second one but not know how to do this.
