Dynamically Coloring The Background Of A Select Box?

I have a select list which has a couple of colour coded items on it. The color is added via a style attribute as this is read from a database table that contains the agency details and 'color code'. Here's how that looks:

Code HTML4Strict:
<select name="agency" id="agency">
<option value="" selected="selected">Select Agency</option>
<option style="background-color: rgb(179, 253, 196);" id="agency4"

it always tells me that the background-color is rgb(51,153,255). I believe that may be the blue color that a selected item has by default.

So, my main problem is that no matter what I try here (and I've been trying for the past couple of hours) I can't get the background color from the style attributes on those two select items that have the different background-color.

I found this way veryinconvenient (data structures usually deal with value codes, not value descriptions) and it seems to work only sometimes.

Trying different options I came out with this approach that seems to do the job so
far:

Dynamically Changing Background Color

I'm having a problem dynamically changing the color of a table background.

I'm not sure exactly how to word this, but I'll give an example.

I have a function called greentored(propname)

i want to be able to change the following to a different color:
document.all.propname.style.visibility

but substitute the propname with the variable that I'm sending over.

Here is what I had written before but it did not work, it should be easy to
understand what i'm trying to do:

function greentored(propname) {

changecolor = "document.all." + propname + ".style.background";

changecolor = "green";

}

I understand why this doesn't work because all i'm doing is reasigning
"changecolor" to equal green, rather then setting the property of the first
instance of "changecolor" to green.

I want to have <div> cells that the background-color css style dynamically change between 4 colors depending on how many times they are clicked. The options are none, yellow, red and green then repeat. So when the page loads, they are all at none, and if you click once it goes to green, twice to yellow, three times to red, then back to none.

Changing Background Color Of Multiple Select

I have two multiple select inputs. Initially the first contains a bunch of
items and the second is empty. Using a common method, I move items back and
forth by double clicking on them.

This portion works perfectly, but I would also like to change the background
color of the select element with the current focus. I have defined the following classes:

..selected {
background: #C0FFFF
}
..deselected {
background: #FFFFFF
}

Using the following function below I am able to shift the background color
of rows containing content, but the color of the empty rows remain the
"selected" color. How can this effect be achieved for all rows, whether they
contain content or not?

I am unable to set the background colors using a variable as a selector on id's that contain a space ' ' or forward slash '/'. Is there any way to accomplish this? May be my escaping the spaces or forward slashes?

I have a dropdown with various options in, when you select an option it changes the background image of a div. However I would like to animate this change to a fade effect.

The code I have for this at the moment is. (The div bgimgtest has a default background attached to it (images/DELETE/FAV1.jpg).)

Could Not Set The Options In Select Dynamically

I have a select and list of options. I have onkeypress event on the select input. As the user types I am trying to match the entered key strokes to the entries in the options and setting the selected value to the first match.

The problem I am facing is this: My options have 10000,0000, 10001, 1111,0001. Say I type 10, with less than one sec delay I consider them as one unit. So I try to find whether there are any entries in the options which starts with 10 and setting the value. But brower is considering the last entered key stroke , in this example 0 and setting the 0000 which is the first match.

Is there any way that I can stop the browser from doing that or any idea?

Here's what I'm trying to do: I've got a <SELECT> box followed by a text <INPUT> field, and I want them to change each other. The select box lists a whole list of cities and also "Other", while the text box is labeled "Other." When a user selects anything at all EXCEPT "other" in the select box, I'd like it to clear whatever value is in the textbox. And when a user starts typing in the text box, I'd like it to dynamically select "other" from the textbox. Is this doable? Code:

Each time I dynamically load the options of a select box and then try to do anything with it (such as clicking it or using other JS code on it) I get the following Firefox error:Error: Index or size is negative or greater than the allowed amount = NS_ERROR_DOM_INDEX_SIZE_ERR

I have a drop down box on a site, and when an option is selected, I need the value of a text box to change.

My form has the following in it:

and I have this javascript function:

the form is called 'nonmember' and the text box i need to change is called 'adminprice'.

Everything works fine in mozilla, but in IE nothing happens when I select an item from the drop down list (not even a javascript error)

I am having an issue with setting the background-image of a another div #x to the background image of #y.Correct me if I am wrong but I think you would do this in a simple case by saying

So when it does it, it is getting the URL of the generator (I logged it. what is actually being passed is [URL] This would require a server call to generate a new image, In this particular application, even if it wasn't exactly the image y had it would be acceptable. But it's not doing it. It is not getting any image at all. Am I doing something wrong, i.e. is it supposed to just work? I would think not, since the page has already been rendered. This is almost an ajax situation but I don't know how to do it for an image. I don't really want to generate a new image anyway, I'd be very happy to get the one that's already there. How would I access the actual image already attached to y and not do another server call?

How do I make sure that they are created on the fly?

Menu Item Select On Page Load - Actual Element (a Table) To Set The Background Doesn't Exist

I have a menu that I have constructed through HTML/CSS/JavaScript. Javascript handles the mouseover and mouseout events to set the background of the menu item/table element with an image. It works great. What my issue is right now is that when the user loads the Home page, I want that to have the background of the item already set. I had a function to do this with a switch clause in a separate javascript file. This function was called immediately (left it outside of any functions so it would execute first). But I'm getting an error because the actual element (a table) to set the background doesn't exist yet.

chosen. This will occur with the onclick() event hander, and the query
string will be processed using a server-side technology. I'm just not
sure how to word the "onclick" handler. Here's what I have:

What is the correct wording to set the underlined portion to whatever
was selected? I know it has to be done with JavaScript, since the
