Dynamically Setting Query String With <select> Onclick() Handler

Jul 23, 2005

I need to pass the selected option of a <select> tag into a query
string, so that the page is reloaded with the selected option already
chosen. This will occur with the onclick() event hander, and the query
string will be processed using a server-side technology. I'm just not
sure how to word the "onclick" handler. Here's what I have:

<select id="StartMonth" name="StartMonth" onchange="location.href =
'thispage.cfm?StartMonth=_______'">

What is the correct wording to set the underlined portion to whatever
was selected? I know it has to be done with JavaScript, since the
decision is made on the client-side.

Dynamically Add OnClick Event To Select Element

Feb 13, 2010

I have a function that dynamically creates a new div, part of the function looks like:
root = document.getElementById('rootbox2');
var oDiv=root.appendChild(document.createElement("div"));
with(oDiv){
id=ji;
className="workshopRow";
setAttribute("attending","");
setAttribute("attending_count","0");
}
var oText = oDiv.appendChild (document.createTextNode(""));
var oDiv1=oDiv.appendChild(document.createElement("div"));
with(oDiv1){
className="workshopName";
}
var oText = oDiv1.appendChild (document.createTextNode(""));
var oSelect=oDiv1.appendChild(document.createElement("select"));
with(oSelect){
name="select_"+ji;
id="select_"+ji;
className="workshop";
onchange="calc_subtotal("+ji+")";
}
var oText = oSelect.appendChild (document.createTextNode(""));
var oOption=oSelect.appendChild(document.createElement("option"));
with(oOption){
value="12";
setAttribute("price",10);
}
What I am looking to do is add an onchange event to the select element, not sure if i have programmed it correctly but it does not seem to work.

Onclick Handler In 'for' Loop ?

Mar 30, 2010

I'm finishing up the front-end of an events management application, but I'm running into a problem with my javascript.

Here's the scenario: I have the php application returning all event details into a JSON object.

The object structure looks like this:

Code:

Each event title listing on the calendar grid is assigned "#" plus the event's ID for it's link, just for testing purposes--no problems.

Eventually, I want the user to get a yui container (modal) with the event details, but when I add the onclick handler to the links, the id that gets passed for each of the links is the same, 60 (which is the ID of the last iteration in the loop).

Here is my code:

Code:

I've tried using the var keyword to localize the id, but that produced the same problem.

Add The Variable To The Query String

Jul 5, 2011

having trouble getting a query string/URL to append a couple of variables from a function (well, trying to get ONE working). Basically, once a user makes a selection from a form, I want the script to add the variable to the query string, which is then sent off to a PHP script. If I manually enter the 'social_housing_type' as a number in the query string, it executes properly, I just can't get it to do it from the form.

var elements = document.getElementsById('amount' + i);
for(a=0; a<elements.length; a++){
total += (parseFloat(elements[a].value));

DOM: How To Associate A Value From A Database With An Onclick Handler?

Jun 21, 2006

I am trying to use DOM to create a UI for editing info pulled from a database. The info pulled are the locations of a given company. So, company A might have 2 locations (address, city, zip), and this is the info I want to present.

The way I have it now I use dom to parse the returned XML file and display the location info for each location on a seperate line. At the end of each line I want a button that the user can click which will then replace the current line (just text) with 3 input boxes populated with the values for address, city, zip.

Another button (UPDATE) will then be used to call a function which will update the db with the new location information. This is all no problem, but the part I cannot fathom is how do I associate the "location id" (from the database) with the UPDATE button on a given line, so that when the UPDATE button is clicked the function it activates will know which location (ie row) in the db to update. Code:

Add OnClick Event Handler To Each Banner

Feb 11, 2009

I've successfully used the Random-Order javascript on my site for years to shuffle around a number of banners on my main page.I now want to add an onClick event handler to each banner so that I can use Google Analytics to track those exit links, but I can't get the script to work when adding the onClick; the banners just don't show up on the webpage then. I'm pretty sure that some coding needs to happen in the function area below the content section, that just putting the onClick in each item won't do it, but I don't write this stuff, so I have no clue what to do to make it work right. Here's the script WITH the onClick code I would like to add in red. If you were to remove everything in red, the remaining code would be exactly as it currently appears on my site and works properly. Dynamically Load From A File With A Click Handler?

May 7, 2011

I'm trying to dynamically load javascript from a file with a click handler.

The code is for a class function.

I'm instantiating an instance of the class from the click handler.

It doesn't work the first time I call the "constructor" function, but it does work the second time.

If I put in a call to the "alert" method, it works the first time.

From this, it would be logical to conclude that the code being loaded isn't being given time enough to load and be implanted within the DOM structure for the page.

How can I get the click handler to wait for the code to get established?

What follows is the code for the method that inserts the tag to load the javascript:

Code:
function load_js_code_from_file (js_code_file)
{
var form_ref = document.getElementById ("theForm1");
var new_js_node = document.createElement ("script");

[Code]....

Pass Query String Using Popup

Jul 23, 2005

What I am attempting to do is have a link/button on a page
(testpopup.cfm) that opens a popup page (popupwindow.cfm). The popup
page displays a resultset from a query and the selected record needs
to be passed through a query string/URL parameter to the original
calling page and will be available in the body onload event of the
calling page.

I open the popup window and display the query results, I then click on
a record and the record is then displayed in the calling form textbox
(txtOrg) - - - only the calling form appears in the POPUP window!
This is not what I need it to do. I need it to pass the URL parameter
to the calling page and close the popup. Here is the code from the
two pages. Can you shed any light on this? ....

Dynamic Query String Variables?

Sep 20, 2007

I'm working on a rather complex booking system for building European
trips, in a combination of SQL/VBScript/Javascript. There are tons of
query string variables that get passed back and forth between the
pages, and in almost every case, I can set 'em up fine, provided the
variables are in the link.

The page the *holds* the booking information, though, is problematic.

An example trip might include two European cities or towns with a week
in each in an apartment or cottage that the user selects from a dozen
or properties for each region.

All the information is on one page (all the dozen or so properties for
each weeks, available dates for the trip and for each , max occupancy
per property, pricing per property and per number of passengers,
etc...everything necessary to actually book the trip). If the user
changes party size or chooses a date, properties are hidden or shown
depending on max occupancy and/or availability.

So, a user sets their date and party size (or maybe just the party
size, or maybe has just cleared everything out to start over...) then
wants to view available properties so they can find one they like. The
current pax/date/etc. information is not in the query variables,
because the link was built at runtime.

If I build the link in an onclick event, it breaks if someone right
clicks to open a new page or tab.

I hate sites that disable right click menu. I hate sites where, when
you open a new page with a right click, it generates a javascript
error if the URL is created with an onclick event. I hate that using
an onclick to bring up the page means whatever is showing in the
status bar bears no resemblance to the page that is brought up when
you click on the link.

My client isn't worried about the non-javascript people for this use;
those people are referred to a free spiffy catalog, which frankly, is
how most of this client's customers book their trip anyway. I just
want to be able to carry the variables in such a way as to not break
the site if someone right clicks.

Anybody have any suggestions? Is it hopeless?
