Do Not Support HTML In Textarea
Oct 24, 2007I have a textarea and I would like to prevent users from inserting HTML tags. Only plain text is supported. Which client-side js regular expression is best for this?

View 1 RepliesJust wondering - is there some trick that allows this to be done of which I am not aware? Specifically, I would like to use XPath to query the _current_ HTML document in IE.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow to get outerhtml for document.body for different browsers.
I am passing document.body to the method mentioned in the code below:
Code:
function getOuterHTML(object)
{
try{
var element;
[Code]....
In firefox and chrome, I get only the HTML markup; but the data that is part of the controls of the input object is not getting populated.Whereas, in IE it works.
However, I was wondering - I realize there does not seem to be a "standard" way to do this (without additional libraries), but is there any "hacky" method that can be used to get XPath support in IE? What I mean is for parsing the loaded HTML document.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I got six textareas that are read-only.
Maybe I'm confused, but textareas support onFocus events, correct?
Furthermore, I've got a radio group that has an onChange event. Something like onChange="f(1);"
When a button is selected, the JavaScript function kicks in :
function f(n) {
var x = window.document.forms[0]
var y = new Array()
y[0] = 6
if (n == 1) {
x.text_field.value = y[0]
}
}
This should pop the number 6 into the text_field (which is a textarea), should it not?
I have a PHP/MySQL-based content management system that alows one to edit pages of a website through form textareas. I was wondering if it is possible to change the appearance of HTML tags inside the textarea so the HTML markup looks different (e.g., in grey), making it easier to quickly find and edit the 'real' content without messing up the tag (like accidentally deleting a '>' character).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a website with an admin area for my clients. The input text is then inserted in a page on their website - inside a <p> tag. What I'm trying to do is locate a script that would allow them to use such tags as <b>, <i>, <u>, but not others like <p>, <div>, etc. Does someone know of such a script?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a script (more of a web app) which generates a customized table element. I want the user to be able to "save" this table. Thus far, what I am doing is getting the HTML of the table and displaying in a textarea for the user to cut and paste to a text editor. This is fine, except, I worry many in my target audience wont know how to use a text editor, or make plain text, or save as HTML.. etc. So I was hoping to use .js to open a new window and write in the HTML so that the users could merely do a FILE>SAVE PAGE AS directly from their browsers.
I suppose I have two questions:
1) How do I document.write to a NEW window??
2) I have noticed that when you use.js to generate HTML, it doesn't show in the view source , thus it wont "save as" anything else but a BLANK doc. How to make generated HTML "visible" so that it can be saved.
I'd like to create a textarea and a division so that whatever embed code you put in the textarea it gets executed on the division in real-time.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have web form (not MVC) that has bunch of textarea and textboxes where user can input HTML markup. For example, a textarea is provided so users can put YouTube embed iframe html tag where it will be shown on their profile. The problem is that asp.net 4.0 http request validation doesn't like things like ">" or "<", etc. I can put pagevalidation="false" on the page and/or revert back to .net 2.0 validation but why would I want to do that since I have geniuses like you guys that can show me how to do what I want with jquery without jeopardizing security.
So what I want to do is form a handler so when the form is submitted, the content of the textboxes and textarea on the page be encoded (i.e. > to > etc.) before the submission to the asp.net 4.0 so we can keep the httprequest validation stuff happy. I have added a class "mustEncode" to each of the textarea and textboxes.
I am creating a small CMS module for a client. I created a little form and when they click Submit, it goes straight out into an include (.inc) file, which is connected to the web page to be displayed.
The trouble I am having is that I'd like to create an additional button that will insert some text (certain html tags to make their life easier, etc) - I got it to work, actually. The script executes and the text is inserted - but once the script runs and the page refreshes (or whatever it does), the text then disappears. The only way I can seem to get it to stay put is when I use "onmouseup" instead of "onclick" - which means that every time the user accidentally mouses over the thing, it inserts the text.
How would i change back to the default length of textarea?
I have this comment area that after clicking submit i will append the new comment in the list of comments through ajax... i got one problem though, everything is working perfectly well except for the textarea that won't change back to it's default size...
EXAMPLE:
The problem is that the textareawon't change back to it's default size // let's say that the default size is rows=3
I am looking for a way to embed an IM window into a web page, so that
users can easily send an IM to a support person. I am looking for
something free and easily implemented, that doesn't require any client
download on the user's system. And supports one of the major IM
services like Gtalk, AIM, YIM, ICQ, etc.
Basically I want to provide very very simple answering of questions, so
along the lines of LivePerson without the cost and extra features.
From what I've read, the JavaScript/DOM support is pretty good for
handhelds, but trying a simple page which works on the desktop doesn't
work on pocket IE on the device. I know scripting isn't completely
disabled, because I can use a script block to write a string, but I
haven't been able to call a function to change the string either from a
form button click or by adding another script block that calls the
function. Both of those work on the desktop. In fact, using a script
block to call the function doesn't even work on my device when the
string value is written statically in the HTML (so it doesn't have
anything to do with using the document.write). Code:

how do i know if a browser supports javascript or not ? I implemented some javascript on my site, but noticed that some browsers do not support our scripts. i am using IE 5.0 now on another system, and it doesnt seem to work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedProblem I began with: Netscape/Opera supports hover for different elements,
IE only supports hover for <a> and I want to use hover for <td class="menu">
I then found a fix using some Javascript here:
http://webpages.charter.net/mmmbeer...rbitrary-hover/
It works ok for IE now.
Problem I now have: I don't want the script to run in a browser that does
support hover for <td>.
In other words I noticed that the script was still running for Netscape and
Opera - but I would prefer to let those browser's native hover support to
work since I notice that in some cases the script can introduce lag at
loading time.
I don't want to sniff for IE: I know how unreliable browser sniffing is. I
would rather sniff for the lack of hover support.
I'm having some problems calling a JS function with a form button.
My function looks like this:
function selection(modify, id) {
document.frmNews.hideID.value = id;
document.frmNews.hideType.value = modify;
document.frmNews.submit();
}
The button:
<input type="button" name="btnEdit2" value="Edit"
OnClick="selection('edit', 2)" />
The button works if I change it's type to a "submit" but that seems to
skip the whole function and just submits.
Am I missing something?
I'm trying to do the right thing. I currently have a page that doesn't
have any JavaScript and the page works. The page works with CSS on or
off. Now I would like to add some JavaScript to enhance the page. The
JavaScript will rearrange some of the DOM and use CSS.
I am willing to put in the effort to try to ensure that the JavaScript
doesn't do anything if necessary JavaScript support for full
functionality is not available. This seems like a difficult task. I
will do the DOM rearranging onload but before doing this rearranging I
will have to check that even the code in the event handlers will work.
Like I will have to do something like this
if ( /* check every function I need is available */ ) {
// All my JavaScript here
}
Is the best way to do this?
It would be an equal failure if the JavaScript does anything if the CSS
is disabled. Can I check that the CSS is on?
Can anyone shed some light on the JavaScript support on many of the
most common mobile browsers (the newest versions of Blazer, Blackberry
and Pocket IE)? Specifically, I am trying to render some content using
innerHTML when the page loads without success. document.write is
supported but does not meet my needs.
