Disabling Copy/select On One Image Within A Page
Jul 21, 2006
does anyone know how to apply onselectstart and ondragstart to just
one image on a page?
All of the posts I have found so far suggest adding these to the body
tag. The disadvantage of this is that it prevents users from selecting
anything at all on the page.
I need to isolate this to one particualr image. I've tried adding the
selectstarts to divs, the img tag etc but it doesn't seem to work.

<textarea name="description" id="description" maxlength="250" rows="4" dojoType="dijit.form.SimpleTextarea" style="width:200px;overflow:auto;word-wrap:break-word;">${fn:trim(status.value)}

The following function works fine provided you call it from the body's onLoad property.
Code:
function disableSelection(target){alert('in');
//disable text selection if drag in progress so we don't highlight text while dragging panels over other panels
if (typeof target.onselectstart!="undefined") //IE route
[code]...
I put an alert inside the disable function and it DOES hit it onload, but you can still select text on the page.

I'm working on a JavaScript that is enabling / disabling a select
element according to whether a checkbox is selected or not.
This works fine in Firefox, but in Internet Explorer (v 6.0.2900) it
appears wierd:
When I disable the selevt element in IE, it continues to appear as
enabled (falsely) until I try changing it.
When I click on it, updates itself as grey as to indicate that it is
disabled.This is wrong. I want it to appear as grey and disabled the moment it
is disabled via JS.Is this a bug in IE, or should I do this different way (code below).
Is there perhaps some way to "update" the select element so that it
appears as disabled once I disable it with JS? (without having to click
on it to probe if it is disabled or not) Code:

I am creating a data application where users must be able to select table rows to perform actions on it... Think in terms of Yahoo Mail. I have written a script to select clicked rows and to deselect them when clicked again. I also added shift button functionality and 'escape' to deselect all.
However my problem arise with my click and drag to select multiple rows. It works fine in FF and IE, I have managed to disable text select in these browsers because it looks awry, but have not managed to achieve the same effect in Opera. Code:

I've been playing around with the following code for days already and still in the dark tunnel. Can someone tell me what's wrong with the way I've coded it?
var cell1 = row.insertCell(0);
var selOpt = document.createElement('input');
selOpt.setAttribute('type', 'select');
selOpt.option = document.forms[0].Country.option;
selOpt.setAttribute('name', 'AnotherCtry');
cell1.appendChild(selOpt);
<edit>What I'm trying to do is to copy the options of the Country to another select which I've allowed the users to 'add' to the current row.</edit>

I have a html:select tag box and I want to make it copy pastable directly from an excel sheet or notepad so as to dynamically updating its options, is it possible. Current code has html:select box separately and below this another text box is there, where i fill the numeric value, then press add button below and then it gets updated in the html:select tag box.
Is it possible to copy from some list of numeric values and then directly paste into the html:select and the array list gets updated from this pasted list.

Our company own a lot of domains and want to put a short page of copy on each address along with keywords before redirecting the user to our main site. I have been able to get the page to load the main site after the desired time using this code in the head...
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="40;URL=http://webaddress.com/">
That works perfectly, I am now trying to display a countdown timer from 40 seconds down to 0, and on 0 redirect the user. Saying something like "You will be redirected in XX seconds". Is there anyway of doing this? I've been searching google for the answers with no luck and can only seem to find timers that countdown to a set date.

To begin, I'm a novice at this. I'm using 2 JQuerys on a page -
[Code]...
The first fades a page in and out when loading. The second 'smoothly' scrolls the page down to anchor text in the page. The problem is that the 1st script 'overpowers' the second, so when you click on an anchor text link it starts to 'smoothly scroll down, then the first script kicks in an re-loads the page. Is there a way of stopping the first script if the second one is being used?

Im having trouble with my js. I have a series of img tags. each one needs to run a function with the onclick event. In the function I want to copy the src of the image into the src of a main -larger- img tag. I tried something like this:
function doit(){
var node = this;
var dest_div = document.getElementById("bigimagediv");
dest_div.replaceNode(node, dest_img);
node.onclick = null;
}
I tried this but its 'not a function' =/
function doit(){
var node = this;
var nodesrc = node.getAttribute("src");
dest_img.setAttribute("src", nodesrc);
}
but it doesnt work. I _do_ want to the keep the image thumbnail on the page, so maybe a copyNode or something else.

Please visit the following page if you want to see the page I am working with. The flower images at the bottom, when clicked, will display the src of that image when clicked in the textbox. However, I want to apply the same function to the manipulated images too, in order to get their data URL's. Currently, the images at the bottom have the following:
Code:
<img src="images/nem.png" onclick="clicked(this)" />
How would I go about adding the onclick to the following javascript generated images?
Code:
var dragon = new Image();
dragon.src = "images/flower2.png";
var dragon2 = new Image();
dragon2.src = "images/oldtraff2.png";
var dragon3 = new Image();
dragon3.src = "images/trees2.png";
var dragon4 = new Image();
dragon4.src = "images/f12.png";
var dragon5 = new Image();
dragon5.src = "images/nem2.png";
var dragon6 = new Image();
dragon6.src = "images/nl2.png";
var dragon7 = new Image();
dragon7.src = "images/dino2.png";
var dragon8 = new Image();
dragon8.src = "images/ipad2.png";
var dragon9 = new Image();
dragon9.src = "images/tokyo2.png";
var dragon10 = new Image();
dragon10.src = "images/pup2.png";

Im trying to have a click event that replaces an image on the page with a new image that has been selected randomly from an array. I have solved PART of this already (can get the random image to appear).
However, instead of appearing on the page where the old image was, the new image appears in a blank page.
My research indicates that this blank page location-problem is a result of using document.write in the Function. Therefore, I know I need to find a different way to accomplish this, but am failing miserably.
I have been trying for hours and hours and HOURS to figure out proper syntax for accomplishing this via elements, functions, variables and mootools.
A bit of my research:
-I found this---but havent figured out how to implement it in my scenario:

I am finishing up creating a fairly complex page that is very rich in
DHTML. In addition to updating it self every couple of seconds,
various components on it support sync and async communication with
various web services.
The problem is that if a user tries to click on any JS driven content
before the page is fully loaded, it will not work properly since it
relies on many onLoad scripts that initiate webservices etc.
is there a clean way, to simply disable any page functionality before
it loads ?
other than explicitly enabling every control in window.onload() event.
