View 6 RepliesI'm just starting to learn jQuery actually.. I downloaded the starterkit, unpacked it and also downloaded the latest jQuery file from this website.. all referenced to with the right path in the file but for some reason it doesn't work! I also tried the link to the jQuery file on Google but still the same problem.. I know the path is right because when I view source and click on the link, the right file opens.
If I click the 'Run Code' button on the homepage here it does what it's supposed to do, just on my own computer nothing works?
I need to track the number of times a link is clicked/file downloaded & capture this info in the database.

Yet I do not know how to detect when a file is being dragged (much like how gmail changes when you are dragging a file). Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how this can be accomplished?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm developing a framework that allow all navigation in normal mode or in ajax load.
I have a form to upload images and I can upload files correctly, but if I use the ajax form, the save page don't receive the HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH in $_SERVER PHP array (only occours when a file is uploaded).
How can I detect an ajax load with a file upload form?
The system uses individual PDF files for each page, and you can navigate using the controls on the side. It's not ideal, as it was made to replace a horrible system and has the limitations of the content being presented.
That being said, I think it's pretty good. The trouble area is related to navigation: when you navigate the documents, some JavaScript detects the current URL of the content frame and updates the nav controls (previous and next page numbers) and table of contents links (bold, highlight) if they have changed. That part works fine. The problem area is with IE and PDF links. If you click a page link within the PDF, it opens that PDF file in the same frame. In FF and every other browser, the JS URL detection works fine.
In IE, of course, it doesn't detect that a different PDF is being displayed. If it can't detect the new PDF file, and by extension, the file number, the nav controls don't work right. Now - before anyone asks - it DOES work in IE if you navigate to the PDF document by using the links in the navigation system that I built. It's just when you arrive at a PDF from another PDF that it fails.
This is hard to explain more clearly, so take a look: [URL]
To see this in action, visit page 4, the table of contents. Click a page number link, for instance, page 9. Once it loads, click "next page" at the top left of the interface. In FF, it goes to page 10. In IE, it goes to page 5, since the JavaScript is unaware that the frame has changed PDF files. It doesn't make sense, since FF can see it plainly.
My code is all out in the open. This thing has to be designed to run off of a CD as well as on the website. If I could use server-side scripting, it would be VERY different, I assure you.
I am working on implementing a carousel-style switcher (using a pre-built script dependent on the MooTools library) on the home page of one of my Web sites. The script displays a series of thumbnail images. When the user clicks on one of those thumbnails, an AJAX request returns the following items, which are then switched out using javascript:A background image (usually between 50 and 100 kilobytes)A foreground image (usually between 10 and 20 kilobytes)A header for the promotional item (strictly text)The body text of the promotional item (text and HTML code, generally no more than 200 characters of text)I have all of that working properly.
When the user clicks on the thumbnail, the AJAX function executes. Then, I use javascript to invoke a new Image() object to load the background image. Once that's completed, I invoke another Image() object to load the foreground image. Once both requests are fully loaded, I switch out the information. While they are working, I display an animated gif that indicates the information is loading. However, if at all possible, I would like to implement a progress indicator rather than just a simple animated gif. Because of the size of the background images, it can sometimes take between 10 and 15 seconds to load on a dial-up connection (even longer if the user's connection is especially slow or overloaded).
That's a long time to sit and stare at a "loading" image, especially if there's no way to indicate whether it's going to actually do anything or if it's just completely stalled. I am already sending the filesize of the background image and the foreground image to my javascript using the AJAX request, so if I need to use that somewhere in my script, I can easily do that. However, I've hit a roadblock in trying to figure out if there's a way to determine how much the user has actually downloaded successfully. From most of my research, it does not seem possible (due to security issues) to determine any sort of file size on the user's local computer using javascript.
However, the majority of the information I've found on the subject seems to relate to the opposite type of situation (users uploading files rather than downloading). The few examples I've been able to find for "download indicators" seem to simply count the total number of images being loaded, then divide 100 by that count. Then, for each image that loads, it adds that percentage to the indicator. Since I will always be loading two images, that means that my download indicator would always display 0%, 50% or 100%, which isn't much more helpful than the animated "loading" gif I'm already using. Is there any way to use javascript to determine how much (percentage-wise or in bytes) of a file a user has downloaded from the server into their cache?
I have a small function that replaces an image with that of a clicked thumbnail (and updates some text). Is it possible to display a loader whilst the new image is being downloaded?code...

is there a way to check if a picture has downloaded completely?
What I (read: my boss) want to do is open the index-page with a picture, and after it's downloaded, reload the website to index2.php after say 4 seconds.
Is it enough to do an OnLoad in the body tag, or doesn't that include the downloading of the items/pictures on the page?
Does anyone know of a handy way to disable a user from downloading javascript when they save a page?
Here is my problem. I have javascript that disables right clicks on a page. However the user could just "save" the page to there desktop and remove the function that disables right clicks.
Anyone know of a good work around? I've heard of other complex ways, but I was looking for a simple solution.

It would be nice to be able to sort plugins by the number of times voted on. I know you can see how many times it has been voted on after you go to the detail page but it would be helpful to get that info as a sort field on the "Most Popular Plugins" page because then you could tell wether a 5 star has been voted on once or a 1000 times. I personally would rather get a 3 1/2 starred plugin voted on 1000 times then a 5 star voted on once by the developer. Don't get me wrong I would vote 5 stars on my plugin too.
View 4 Replies View RelatedCan Javascript be used to detect a certain url and then "not" write some html according to that url and also detect something on the page and "then" display some html?.
Example: I'm working on a volusion site that uses asp. There's basically only one page that's changed dynamically. I would like to display some html when and only if the cart has any items in it. But also not to show up on the check-out pages.
The page dynamically displays "Your cart has 1 item in it..." when the visitors puts something in their cart.
So could javascript detect when this is displayed then write some html and then also detect if the url is showing the cart and then not show the html?
I used document.readyState to check the document state, but it gavem access is denied error at that line. is there any other way to do it?
function wackOpen(){
my_window1=window.open('http://www.yahoo.com','','left=20,top=20,width=2,height=2 ');
//my_window1.location="$send_sms[0]";
my_win_status=my_window1.document.readyState;
....
.....
}
This may sound weird but I'm try to find a way to copy the whole docoument from one frame to another. It's sort of like stowing away the whole page to another frame so that user can use the main frame for other things. When done, the user then can pull back the previous page into the main frame. I tried the swapping with document.body.innerHTML but then it only copied whatever in the body but not the header, which contains all the javascript functions and css. I thought about just replacing the other frame's url with the current but it won't work because the current page contains a "form submitted" search & result. Loading its url to the other frame would result in a complete new search.....

I know $(element).css('top',''); should remove any value for top. However, in IE7 (or rather, IE9b in compatibility mode), it still leaves style="TOP: ;" on the element (as given by: alert($(element).attr('style'));). I know this shouldn't be a problem, but for some reason it's playing around with my element, which has external CSS settings it as bottom:5px;. The top:; is applied, but then I want it completely removed. However, there might well be other css inline, so I don't want to removeAttr('style'). Is there another way to completely remove the 'top' property?

function clal()
{
document.body.removeChild(alObj);

You can edit it however you want to.
To get it working, all you have to do is create a link or something like this:
<a href="javascript:alert('Hello! How are you?')">Greetings</a>
and the alert will come up as any other kind!
