Defining And Display Variables With Switch Statement

Oct 19, 2010

I'm trying to code a script that will display an approximate postage price based on different combinations of variables, but the numbers I defined for each case aren't reflected in the text box. I'm using a switch statement for all the different combinations of options, which the user will choose by selecting check-boxes. (Additionally, I know that this code probably isn't a very efficient way of doing what I'm doing - how to improve it.) I've attached all the relevant parts of the code, including how I defined variables originally.

<script type="text/javascript">
function count(){
var firstclass = document.calc.firstclass.value;
var postcard = document.calc.firstclass.value;
var numpages = document.calc.numpages.value;
var nms = document.calc.nms.value;
var large = document.calc.large.value;
var numpages = parseInt(document.calc.numpages.value); .....

Switch Statement Question

Jul 18, 2006

I need to write the switch statement below in a way where I can have each case with multiple values, and avoid using "break;" to allow the evaluation of the rest of cases. the code below should jump into the first 2 cases but not the last one, but it is not doing that. Is there a way for me to get around this.

function test(){
var Temp = 'cs1'

switch(Temp){
case 'cs1' , 'cs2':
alert(&#391;');

case 'cs1':
alert(&#392;');

case 'cs2':
alert(&#393;');
}

Using The Switch Statement And Variable Scope?

Jun 14, 2010

I've created a jQuery script that uses a switch statement. However, my experience with it, relative to variable scope, doesn't seem to follow the logic.According to the JavaScript/jQuery theory, a global variable was accessible (meaning read & write) throughtout any function within any script (one that page).However, apparently that theory wasn't completely true as it pertained to switch statements that contained variables. To illustrate my case in point, I've included a simplistic version of my code:

$("#selector").delegate("div", "click", function(event) {
var testVar = 4;
switch (this.id) {

[code]...

As shown, the variable "testVar" is not accessible from one case to the next case .Furthermore, to add insult to injury, I am seeing the same behavior within the conditional if else statement counterpart to the switch statement.

Is there anyway to write a function which will sense which link was clicked and then alert the id of that selected link. I have written the code but am not certain why isn't it working. here is my code.

$('#footer a').bind('click', function(){

Switch Statements And Variables - Creating Bars?

Apr 18, 2011

I'm having some trouble with the Switch Statements. My program runs without it so I know that the problem is here. I believe the logic is sound so it may be due to incorrect syntax. The purpose of this function is to create bars, and the length of the bars is determined by the value of the "percent" variable (which is working fine) in the For loop after the Switch statements. The variable, "partyType" contains any of the text strings, such as "I", "D", etc.

function createBar(partyType,percent){
var barText;
switch(partyType){
case "D":
barText="<td class='dem'></td>";
break;
case "R":
barText="<td class='rep'></td>";
break;
case "I":
barText="<td class='ind'></td>";
break;
case "G":
barText="<td class='green'></td>";
break;
case "L":
barText="<td class='lib'></td>";
break;
default: document.write("hi");
}
for(var i=1; i<percent; i++){
document.write(barText);
}}}

OnClick Won't Work After Display Switch / Fix It?

The original code on the html file works fine, but as soon as it is swapped by onclick, the 'add to cart' button does nothing! code...

and that adds the item to the cart just fine, but when a thumbnail is clicked on, activating the javascript file to switch out the item/elements, the 'add to cart' button no longer does anything... by the way, I am using simpleCart.js.

Switch Between A Series Of Divs - On Clicking A Navigation Tab The Divs Display Property Is Set To 'block'

Jan 22, 2009

I am using javascript to switch between a series of divs, on clicking a navigation tab the divs display property is set to 'block' and all other divs have their display property set to 'none'. That works fine, the problem I have is when I redirect to another page (e.g. a PHP script) on return to the index the divs have reset and only the default div is shown, rather than the div that was showing when the user left the page. The solution, as I see it, is two stages: Write a function to display the relevant div based on the variable passed to it, then work out how to pass this variable around various pages (post/get). I am very inexperienced with javascript and it drives me mad that the script literally does nothing rather than throwing up an error (as in PHP) but this is what I have so far in terms of a function:

Variables Scope In Dynamic Functions - Display The Number 1 At First And Then 2

Code:

I would like to display the number 1 at first and then 2. but this code produces number 2 for both alerts. I was able to achieve what i wanted with "new" constructor when creating functions but this is not a good practice and after all i am passing these functions as an event handlers and it can't be done with "new" keyword because it is throwing error. I think there are some solutions with arrays e.g the x would be an array of numbers, but i don't like it. Am i missing something important?

If... Statement - Automatically Display The Sublinks Under The "gallery" Link?

Sep 16, 2011

I have a navigation link ("galleries") that 'onclick' displays a sub-menu of other links (the specific galleries).
This is on the home page of my site.When a user first views the home page, the sub-menu does not display, until they click "galleries".

On other pages of my site, the "galleries" link is one of the options in my navigation. That link takes users back to the home page which is what I want it to do.But what I'm looking for to happen is if the user is directed back to the home page from within another page on my site, I'd like the link on the homepage to automatically display the sublinks under the "gallery" link.This is so that users don't have to click "galleries" twice in order to see the submenu.

For example: If a user is on the 'about me' page, in the navigation there is a 'galleries' link. If they click it, it takes them to the home page. They would then have to click on 'galleries' again on the home page in order to display the sub-menu of individual galleries.I want them to show up immediately, but only when directed back to the home page from within my site. I think I do that with an 'if' statement, but I'm not sure of the syntax.

Defining New Opener

Dec 21, 2002

I have just created an 'open window' function for an animated page. It opens the current animation from the current page into a new window, and lets the user change the 'opener' animation while the new animation in the new window continues, sychronised with the opener.

As the opener contains the clock for sychronisation, I can only use the animations from that page (and I have a few pages of small animations). I can let the new animation on the new page continue with its own clock if the opener is closed, but what I would like is if a new animation is started from a new opener, then it tells the existing opened window the new page speed...

got it?????
trymy rhythm pages
follow steps.....
1; open new window
2; click on drum in new window to turn on
3; start rhythm by clicking on hands in main window

I can change between rhythms, so long as I stay on the main page. The problem is when I change the main page to go to other rhythms I loose the sychronisation.

I can go to another page(from opener) and put a new rhythm in the current new window, but I would prefer to keep the old rhythm and sychronise.
