Date Validation Function (Month / Day And Year)
Apr 17, 2003
I am working on a series of functions that I keep getting asked about. The following three scripts do this:
--Date Validation
--Calculate Difference Between Dates
--Date Addition or Subtraction
I am sure that these have been done before, but I just filled the last 20 minutes by coding these. I only did a quick browser test, nothing extensive.
<script>
//Date Validation
function DateValid(mo, dy, yr){
TheDate = mo+"/"+dy+"/"+yr;
Date1 = new Date(TheDate)
D=Date1.getDate();
M=Date1.getMonth()+1;
Y=Date1.getYear();
[Code] .....

I was working on Date() object of javascript. When I write:
today=new Date();
year=today.getYear();
month=today.getMonth();
day=today.getDay();
Here everything was correct but when I print month then I got currentmonth-1 that if the currentmonth is 5 then t get 4. If the current month is 07 then I get 06. At last I worked by adding 1 with month like month+1.

I am trying to create simple JS code for two drop down lists...and I am unable to made anything work. Here are the specs:
On my asp page, I need two drop down lists, the first for a four position year (2006, 2005 , 2004, etc) and the second is for two position month. The hook is that I would like them to dynamically update in relation to the present date. Example...present month and year is 03/06. If I select 񟭆' from the year drop down - my only options for the month dropdown should be ༿', ༾', & ༽'. Next month (04/06), my options for the month dropdown should be ཀ', ༿', ༾', & ༽'. If I select 񟭅' - my options for the month drop down should include all 12 months.
I would like this to update dynamically...with no hard coded dates. The range would be now to 5 years prior. It seems like it should be easy but I just can't get the darn thing.

I've an array of month/year to sort
Code:
var myArray = ['Oct/08', 'Jan/09', 'Mar/09', 'May/07', 'Apr/08', 'Dec/06'];
declare a hash of month with numbers as keys, split each array element and compare each month and sort it.

I have 2 different dropdowns lists. One for the month and another for the days (shows the date)
by default when the page is loaded, I am showing January in the first dropdown and 1 in the second dropdown (date).
But if a user selects February from the month dropdown list, I just dont want to show 29th, 30th, 31st etc. Same applicable for say april, june, sept etc where I dont want to show 31st so the user will not be able to select wrong date for a month. How can I do this?

I've come across this archive at [URL]. What I would like is to have it to have it include "days" as well. So lets say as of today (Apr 8th), when a user choose Apr, the dropdown for 'day' will have the options 01, 02, 03.....08. Another thing to note is that each month has different number of days in it. I've tried playing around for quite some time now...but so far no luck.

If you see my last post, it was a piece of this code that I was learning for/loops but now I have that all working(hence the new topic) and I'm having a problem with indexOf. Here's the whole script(its a fun little date picker)
function popSel(v){
var days;
var x;
if(v==01 || v==03 || v==05 || v==07 || v==08 || v==10 || v==12){
x = 31;
}else if(v==04 || v==06 || v==09 || v==12){
x = 30;
}else if(v==02){
/*var yr=document.getElementById("year").value / 4;*/
var yr = 2003 / 4;
if(yr.indexOf(".") == -1){ /*If you divide a year by 4 and the value is a whole number, it's a leap year*/
x=28;
}else{
x=29;
}}for(i = 1; i <= x; i++){
days += "<option value=" + i + ">" + i + "</option>";
}document.getElementById("day").innerHTML=days;
}
The whole script works but feb doesn't change?

I see that the defaultDate can easily be set to a specific date, or to a date that is a number of days, weeks, month, or years in the future or past. But is there a way to ...have the defaultDate default to the first day of the next month? or ...have the date picker default to the first day of a month no matter what day the user selects for that month? or ...Have the date picker disable every day of every month except for the first day?

It has appeared that ancient sources give a method for Numeric Date
Validation that involves numerous tests to determine month length;
versions are often posted by incomers here. That sort of code seems
unnecessarily long.
For some while, the following approach has been given here :-
function ValidDate(y, m, d) { // m = 0..11 ; y m d integers, y!=0
with (new Date(y, m, d))
return (getMonth()==m && getDate()==d) }
and it may remain the shortest code. But it does require, in every
case, the creation and disposal of a Date Object.
The following is about 50% longer in code, but about four times faster
in my system - and it seems to be right, too.
function DateOK(Y, M, D) {
return D>0 && (D<=[,31,28,31,30,31,30,31,31,30,31,30,31][M] ||
D==29 && M==2 && Y%4==0 && (Y%100>0 || Y%400==0) ) }
Note that checking for 1 <= M <= 12 is inherent, and that the Leapness
of the year is only determined if the date given is February 29th.
Also, it is easy to use only the quadrennial rule if it is certain that
dates are in 1901-2099, or only two rules for 2001-2399.
