When a user pushes their mouse down on a DOM element I want to allow them to move it, so I would like to setup an on mouse move function. The code i have is:

I am wanting the user to move their mouse over a word and a description should appear. Like this: [URL], move your mouse over copyright symbol, which is down in the right hand corner of the photo. Could someone please tell how to do this? I know this would need JavaScript, but not sure what to search for in a search engine.

I am looking to have a javascript that can be included a page that can highlight or set a border for a the div, p, span, or img DOM element when clicked on. Now this element may or not have a element name or id. And also, the code on the individual objects do not have a onmousedown behavior.Lets say for example there is this code.

And in the browser, I wanted mousedown on a section of a page and highlight the parent object. Suppose I moused-down on 'My First Sentence Text', its parent would be that p tag. Is there a way I could reference that p tag so that I could highlight it with a border. Granted, this would be a no brainer if that p tag already have an id and name, but in this it does not.
i have a menu generated by a list with nested lists. i want the parent link to stay highlighted when the mouse hovers over the sub menus. because those sub menus are also generated by jquery (qtip), CSS alone won't do it (triedul.topnav li:hover a {background-color: #F00;}).is there a way to do this using jquery?

But the event handler is never called. I can't even seem to get access to the body. Is the body tag the wrong place to be assigning the mousedown handler? I'm trying to make this code work correctly in both IE and firefox.
I have a jquery statement that enables or disables a button depending on whether a checkbox has been selected in a grid. This works fine in firefox but in IE the button is still displayed as disabled after checking the box. When you move the mouse pointer over the button is instantly becomes enabled. Showing an alert dialogue also makes the button display as enabled. Is there anyway to force IE to refresh the button display after running the statement?

I'm trying to make a simple page where I can move a div around by hovering the mouse over the different links. My problem is it wont stop once activated.

I'm using the Microsoft Virtual Earth Version 1 Commercial Control.
I want to make it so you can click on a pinpoint that's plotted on the
map and all mouse events are passed to the map so that the user can
click anywhere on the map (including the pin points) and drag/zoom the

I would like to move the upper most row which I'm referencing by the eq: $('.row').eq(0) to the end of div#container I thought I could use append or appendTo, but these don't seem to be working.
I have a simple hide and fadeIn. When you rollover a word it will reveal the definition. The problem I am having is if you move the mouse around quickly from one word to the next word sometimes it gets hung up and a definition will not hide. The result gives this hanging defintion and whatever the other definition the mouse is rolledover.
Here is the code I'm using:
There are about 70 words in a box with the definition being reveals on the right hand side. Is there a way of making sure there is always only one definition being shown?
I implemented superfish on my site [url]. I used the menu suffix -nav, and I expected it to just do a drop down. It does, but it pushes the whole page down when I hover over it. Any ideas on how to make this stop and just have superfish as a regular dropdown?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy question explains everything, I have a div inside a parent div. I need to move it inside another div and on the UI show the animation of it moving.
The only way I can think of is, select the element, copy the html(), copy the offset() position and remove element from original container. then add a copy of previously removed element to page/document set the position to the copied offset and animate()
After animation is complete, remove it from the page and add it to the secondary container.
Is there any better and easier way of doing this ? any plugin may be ?
Is there any way in jQuery to move the order of events on a dom element. I have an element (the add button on a jQGrid display) that I want to place a click event in front of the one one put in by jQGrid. I had a look at the jquery.eventmanager plugin but that doesn't really allow the kind of manipulation I want. I also found it didn't like handling the click event anyway.
I'm thinking something along the lines of;

When viewing the page in 1024x768 resolution, the jquery UI datepicker is covering the text input to which it is attached. This input is
near the bottom of the page when viewing at that resolution, which seems to be causing the issue. I can't move the element so is there way to move the calendar? I'd like it to open with the bottom edge of the datepicker at the top edge of the text input.
