Creating Temporary Links That Expire?
Jul 23, 2005
I am developing a web site for a summer comedy series. The site has
links to buy tickets but I want them to disappear two hours before the
show begins. Does anyone know how to use a simple javascript that
shows and hides text and links after a date has passed?

My application reads an array of URLs in Javascript and displays them in a table. I need to create mouseover events for each of the links (just an alert message for now.) I have tried this a few ways, but for each one the mouseover event fires for each link before anything else is loaded on the page, and when the page is loaded, no link is displayed. Here are the two ways I've tried:
var cell1 = document.createElement("TD");
cell1.innerHTML = '<A HREF= ' + url + 'onMouseOver="' + alert("my alert box"); + '"> my page </A>';
cell1.innerHTML = '<A HREF= "' + url + '"> my page </A>';
cell1.onMouseOver = alert('alert');
I have also tried many variations of these including:

Anyone know how to create this in JS? User clicks on a link, the link opens a new window with new webpage AND the page that had the link then changes to a new webpage as well. So end the end that link takes the user to two new pages. For instance, I am on PageA.html and I click an <a href="">Link</a>. Link take me to a newly targeted page called PageB.html. Then at the same time PageA.html turns into PageC.html.

I have several drop down lists of links with one of the drop downs being a "My Favorites". My intent is that when the user clicks on a star image next to the links, it is cloned and appended to the favorites menu, where it can then be drag and drop sorted. To remove the link from the favorites menu, the user can either click on the "x" button to the right of the link on the favorites menu, or unselect the star on the main menus.
I have successfully cloned the link and appended it to the favorites menu by selecting the star and enabled the drag and drop sorting, but I am having trouble removing the link form the favorites menu when unselecting the star and when clicking on the "x". Here is what I have so far:
var me = '';
$('div.star').toggle(function(me){
var me = $(this).next('a').text();
$(this).addClass('favorite').next('a').clone(true).appendTo('ul#myFavs1').wrap('<li></li>').before("<div class='dragHandle'><img class='png' src='_images/dragHandle4.png' width='11' height='11' /></div>").after("<div class='remove' title='Remove from Favorites'></div>").attr('id', me); return me;}, function(me){[CODE]...
So, I clone the link, wrap it, add a drag handle and the 'x' button, give it an id of the text of the link which all works fine. I have a different part of the script that uses the drag handle to drag and drop the links...that works fine. The issues I am having are that unselecting the star does not remove the link from the favorites drop down and clicking on the 'x' does not even fire the alert. The z-index on the 'x' is higher than all the other elements in the li.

I have this code (which I did not make) which basically makes a container with an X, so when I press the X, the div container closes. However, when you refresh the page, the div container will reappear again. How can I make it so when the person presses the X button, the person will never see the div container ever again (or for a set amount of time like 30 days) on that page?
I want to take it one step further, if possible, and make it so when the person presses the X button, he/she will never see the div container again throughout my site, as I plan on implementing the same div container throughout my site.
HTML Code:
<div id="bottom_ad">
<div id="close_ad" onclick="close_bottom_ad();">X</div>
<!-- Ad Content -->

function setCookie(c_name,value,expiredays){
var exdate=new Date();
exdate.setDate(exdate.getDate()+expiredays);
document.cookie=c_name+ "=" +escape(value)+
((expiredays==null) ? "" : ";expires="+exdate.toGMTString());
}
Above is the code I'm using. I just copy/pasted it from another website, so I don't know how to change it. I want the expiration to be about 10 minutes. I tried decimals (0.007 day), but it doesn't work.

I am using jQuery to set a cookie and the expiration date is:
date.setTime(date.getTime() + (options.expires * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000));
which lasts for 1 day, but I would like the cookie to not expire for a long time, is this possible? I know google has one that like expires in 2035 or something but I would like this on to last long. What should I do?

I have a page which I have protected using a password page. When the person viewing the site clicks on the link to the protected page, I have placed a script on onload that checks whether a cookie exists. If the cookie doesn't exist then the person is redirected to the password page. If they enter the correct password then the cookie is created using the following code and they are allowed to enter the protected page:
document.cookie="true";
If the cookie exists however, then they are allowed straight into the protected page. This is the code that I use to check whether or not the cookie exists: Code:

[URL] Example on this site u can test what i mean. I want that when all skillpoints are used further click function is disabled or better only works to disable selection to gain again a skillpoint. On current state u can see that when skill counter is at 0, 2 clicks messes up the selection and u can select further on. my code for each icon looks so far like this:
$("#2").toggle(
function () {
if (counter > 0) {
$("#3").attr("disabled", false).fadeTo("fast", 0.50);

how to avoid temporary (local) variables to reassign this.Example as follow:
function Test(id){
this.id=id;
this.init=function(){
// some initialization go here
[code]....
This is terrible because it breaks the structure, and so many local temporary variables will be instantiated (possibly they will eat up the memmory).However, this type of reference is just so popular in jQuery, and they got a beautiful solution. Example:
$('li').each(function(){
// Do with $(this). This is beautiful, but I don't understand how could they make this scheme.
})

I wrote a pair of functions to enable scoped or referenced setTimeout
calls. I did this because I have an object factory that creates
multiple objects and those objects need to delay a few calls on
themselves at a certain point in time.
This code works fine for normal objects. However, my issue occurs if
at any point, an event object is passed across in IE.
It seems, that events methods and variables in IE are PRIVATE (!)
after the initial callstack has been finished.
The following is the code required to view this bug(?) in IE, and
success in FF. Code:

I'm trying to clear the TIF on Windows XP programmatically with the below code.
This code works fine on any folder but the TIF. For some reason the atEnd() statements always defaults to true and no files are deleted in the folder.
The peculiarity of this issue is that the files/subfolders cannot be seen through the windows explorer either. I can only access/delete them through a command shell. Code:

I have them working in firefox and safari, but in IE links do not work.
Here is the script I have, and the button code.

My menu navigation(Home, Hosting Solution, etc..)
1. The submenu links need to be centered in the middle of the div instead of aligned to the left.
2. Can the submenu links have a rounded box appear under them, instead of being underlined links. Like these at the top: [url]
3: The top tab needs to stay gray/active/on when the mouse is moved down to the submenu or when it is the active button.
Here is the link of the site [url]

I'm using jquery/ajax to create some links with window.open method. Here's the relevant code:
$("#content").empty();
$.ajax({
type: "GET",[code]..........
Basically, when you click a link a function is called with a parameter based on the particular link you run. Then the code runs through an xml file, and if the parent of the nodes I've cyling through has a value equal to the parameter past to the function, that node is used to create a new link with window.open function attached to it.It all works, or seems to, and when I alert what is being built, it looks right to me, yet the links don't work.I've attached a copy of one of the alerts of one of the links as it's built.

I have tried using closest()and currentTarget:

how you would piece
together a variable name and then assign it a value. I want to create a
hidden field and assign it a value based on the value of another variable
Right now it looks like:
("document.all.SM_MARK_10" + dateNumber + ".value")
where dateNumber is an already defined integer. What I want is to say
document.all.SM_MARK_1001.value="XX"
document.all.SM_MARK_1002.value="X2"
etc.
based on that value of dateNumber. Any way to do this easily?
