Session Cookies Being Deleted Without Being Coded To Do So

Jan 3, 2011

Aside from using code to delete a JavaScript session cookie, what can arbitrarily overwrite/delete a JavaScript session cookie?

I ask because I have something that is working flawlessly in development; but as soon as it's moved into a staging area for testing, it stops working.

My initial thought was that there is something causing the browser to think that it's being redirected to another domain, thereby deleting the session. But further testing indicates this is not the case.

Basically put, I have a detail page for clients that contains nine categories; all categories are loaded in an "expanded" state (shows all information for each category) and has a "hide" link next to the header. Click "hide" and the whole category collapses, and the link becomes "expand"; click "expand" and vice-a-versa.

Also on initial page load, the document looks for a session cookie called "vddstatus"; if it does not exist, it creates the session cookie with default values set so that all categories are expanded; if it does exist, it checks the values and adjusts the expanded/hidden status as needed. This way, no matter what page you go to, when you come back to the details page, it remembers the expanded/hidden status of each category.

Like I said, on the development server it works excellently; in the staging environment, the only time it remembers the category statuses is if you click "HIDE ALL"; anything else it apparently deletes the session cookie and generates a new one, set to all categories expanded.

Create Cool Nav Menu Using Ul Tags

Nov 15, 2010

So I decided to create a cool nav menu using <ul> tags and javascript. I input all the code but it is not doing what I want it to do. The menu is horizontal and consists of links in the following order: HOME, SITE SHOWCASE, FREE QUOTES, TESTEMONIALS. the java code has two graphics, on for mouse over and one for mouse out. For some reason the mouse over only works for the last item TESTIMONIALS and the mouse over image for testimonials shows up when my mouse is anywhere on the menu, not just that item![code]

Loading Data From Excel Or Notepad To ComboBox?

Jun 17, 2011

I am working on some sort of a program that will load data from a notepad or Excel file and load it into a ComboBox. The notepad file would have names and phone numbers in it. The ComboBox would only show their names in alphabetical order. There would also be a button that when you click it, it would open up Outlook (if you are signed into Outlook) and auto-fill the form with their phone number @ vtext.net (for texting verizon cell phones). The reason behind this is so the notepad or Excel file can be edited to add more users as the company expands.

how to do the data on load.

Compiler/Checker - Notepad Or Firefox's Source Viewer Doesn't Indicate Anything

Mar 19, 2008

I'm new to Javascript but not new to programming.

I find JS more time consuming because I have to manually search line by line for a single error. In C++ or C the compiler tells me the exact line number of the error or at least what the error is so I can research it.

With JS, notepad or Firefox's source viewer doesn't indicate anything. Is there any software available that will error check JS codes?

Script-Added Anchor Preventing Jump Of Doc-Coded Anchor?

Jan 9, 2010

I have a script that scans an HTML document for headers and special comment tags for the purpose of generating a left-floating/position-fixed DIV that contains the document's outline or "table of contents." Within the DIV are lists (UL element by default) whose items (LI elements) are jump-to links (A elements) to the points (headers, special points marked for inclusion in table of contents) in the document. The problem is this. I have typical HTML document with links that jump to points (usually headers) inside the document, as shown below:

Code:

<body>
<p>This is addressed <a href="#later-text">later</a> in this document
<h1><a id="later-text"></a>Header Text</h1>
<p>...
</body>

But my script, being a document outliner that finds headers in a document, inserts another anchor as a jump-to point just before the first occurrence of text in the header (inserted A element shown in red below). This somehow disables the document-coded jump anchor (shown in blue below). And it occurs in FF and IE, which suggests it is not a browser-specific issue. Why does it occur? Is there something in the HTML spec that states that two anchors to which a jump occurs are not allowed to be adjacent elements in the document?

Code:

<body>
<p>This is addressed <a href="#later-text">later</a> in this document
<h1><a id="later-text"></a><a id="jump-1"></a>Header Text</h1>

[code]....

To reproduce what I am seeing, search for the text "Why Is A Survey Done". The first occurrence is a within-document jump-to link, which should jump to a header below it. If the script execution to generate a document outline is disabled, the jump works. But if the script is executed and the document outline generated, the jump-to link does not work.

All Browsers Are Cool But IE: Div, Form, Table, Input.. Where's The Table?

Jun 2, 2006

I think I can make a good interesting list of postings under this subject header, 'All browsers are cool but IE.'

Anyway, the following code will show a table with an input box labeled, 'name', on all browsers (Gecko, KHTML, Opera) except IE. Is there anybody ever hit on this issue before?
