Cookie 'Error: Expires.toGMTString Is Not A Function'

Apr 27, 2006

HI! I keep on getting this error and I have tried different things but I am
not sure how to send the expiring date.

The error that I am getting in Firefox 1.5 is

"Error: expires.toGMTString is not a function"

----------------------------------------------------
I have this in a .js file and in the head section.

function Set_Cookie(name,value,expires,path,domain,secure) {
document.cookie = name + "=" +escape(value) +
( (expires) ? ";expires=" + expires.toGMTString() : "") +
( (path) ? ";path=" + path : "") +
( (domain) ? ";domain=" + domain : "") +
( (secure) ? ";secure" : "");
}

I am calling it like this.

<script type="text/javascript">
Set_Cookie("checkpopupwarning", "1", "Thu, 2 Aug 2001 20:47:11 UTC", "/");
</script>

Setting Cookie Which Expires When Browser Closed?

Nov 29, 2009

Here's the code I've come up with. I deliberately left off an expiration date since I want the cookie to expire when the browser is closed.

<html><head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function setCookie(name,value){
document.cookie=name+"="+value;}
</script></head><body>
<a href="#" onClick="createCookie('Role',Parent)";>Parent</a>
<a href="#" onClick="createCookie('Role',Student)";>Student</a>
</body>

Countdown Timer That Expires With A Hyperlink

Nov 7, 2010

I don't have a lot of knowledge with javascripting or using jquery stuff but there's a simple code I'd like to use on one of my pages.

At the bottom of the page i'd like there to be a 60 second timer that counts down to zero and when it expires I want the timer to change to a hyperlink that you can click on that will take you to another page on the website.

I found some examples but when the countdown timer hits zero it redirects to another page automatically whereas I'd like to the user to click the link to continue on to the next page when they are ready. But I'm not sure how to change the code these sites below give you.

Display Login Screen When Session Expires

Jun 24, 2006

My aplication starts with a simple login window (login_page.aspx). Once
the login/password is validated I redirect to an html which contains 3 frames.
(mywebsite.html)

The web site I am working on has 3 frames: left frame is for the
menu, top frame is where the user enter the search criteria and main
frame is where the results are displayed.

I want to display the login screen as soon as the Session Timeout
expires, so I realized I should redirect to the login page when the session
ends. (Global.asax in VB . Net, I Included code in session_end function)

The problem I am having is that the login window is open in the last
frame used, and I want to delete the frames. I mean I want to display the login page
in a normal document without frames in the same active web browser screen.

Default Function Value From A Cookie

Mar 1, 2006

When my page loads, I check for the existence of a cookie value through
readCookie(). If there is a value present for the cookie, I would like
that to be the default value in function ordering() and that value to
be the SELECTED value in ddlProfileNames. In other words, if there is
no cookie value, then function ordering will default to
ordering("Div1,Div2,Div3,Div4"). If there is a value, then that should
be used in function ordering and as the default value in
ddlProfileNames. Thanks for any help.

<body onLoad="readCookie('default')">

<FORM name="frmProfileNames">
<SELECT class="smalltext" id="ddlProfileNames"
onChange="ordering(this.options[this.selectedIndex].value);">
<option value="Div1,Div2">1 & 2</option>
<option value="Div3,Div4">3 & 4</option>
<option value="Div1,Div2,Div3,Div4" SELECTED>All Sections</option>
</SELECT>
<a href="#" onclick="setCookie('default', 30);return false">Save as
Default Profile</a>
</FORM>

<SCRIPT>
function ordering(sorder)
{
// code here
}

// start things off:
ordering("Div1,Div2,Div3,Div4");

Setting BG Color With A Cookie Function

Function To Save Selected Background In Cookie?

May 18, 2009

I've been researching cookies a bit, and I attempted to create a function that if you select a background name from a drop down list or anything for that matter, it will save the background in the cookie, and display it in a div background for later use. Now I can't quite figure out why there is a problem with this script, but the error checker tells me there is.

Heres the code:
<script type="text/javascript">
//Get Cookie
function get_cookie(Name) {
var search = Name + "="
var returnvalue = "";
if (document.cookie.length > 0) {
offset = document.cookie.indexOf(search)
// if cookie exists
if (offset != -1) {
offset += search.length
// set index of beginning of value
end = document.cookie.indexOf(";", offset); .....

Cookie Editing - Using - Only Displays Certain Text If The Cookie Is A Certain Number

Apr 30, 2009

I am making a sort of text based game (Just a hobby) I like to do that sort of thing. So, anyway, considering all I can really do is code HTML, and very, very light javascript, I kinda need some help.

I basicly know how to do everything except affect & Use the cookies. So what I need to do with them is to

#1.) Have a code to change the cookie number, say... on the click of a button.

#2.) Have a code where it only displays certain text if the cookie is a certain number.

I cant code JS and have no idea how hard/easy this is.

If it is insanely hard & needs a master coder, just tell me and ill take it off. I dont want to be wasting anyones time.

Call Function Only If Another Function Does Not Return Error?

Feb 14, 2011

I'm trying to "progressively enhance" one of my surveys using javascript. Basically, I have rating scales that make use of radio buttons as each point on the scale. Each radio button occupies its own cell in a table. I wrote some functions that will highlight cells on mouseover in a color corresponding to its position on the scale (e.g. the lowest point is red, the midpoint is yellow, the highest point is green). When a radio button is clicked, the background of the button's cell and preceding cells in the same row will be colored accordingly. The functions are working well in FireFox and Chrome (I just have to add a few lines using the addEvent function to make it compatible with IE).

The effect looks a lot nicer when I add a function that makes the visibility of the radio buttons hidden.

However, I want to make sure that there is a fallback option in case the functions that color the cells don't work for whatever reason. I would not want the radio buttons hidden in this case.

Is there a method whereby I can call the "hideRadiobuttons" function only if the other functions are successfully executed?

IE6 Always Rejects A Particular Cookie Regardless Of Privacy/cookie Setting

Jul 23, 2005

I have an embedded system with a web interface. One of the web pages
has a small JavaScript program that, when run on IE6, always displays
the message that cookies need to be enabled:

if (document.cookie.indexOf('asm_session') == -1)
{
document.cookie = 'asm_session=0'
if (document.cookie.indexOf('asm_session') == -1)
{
document.write("Advanced System Management access requires
cookies to be enabled."+'<br><br>');
}
}

This problem only occurs with IE6, not Mozilla. It also only happens
on some of the embedded systems, but this problem exists for everyone
running IE6.

The problem isn't limited to the Javascript code, either. On another
web page from this embedded system, a cookie is set the normal way,
via the HTTP header. This cookie is also rejected.

When I display any page that attempts to set a cookie, IE6 displays
the blocked icon and says that cookies on that URL are blocked.
However, I have set all privacy and cookie options to their most
permissive. I've spent the past hour changing every option I can find
that's even remotely related to cookies and privacy, and nothing
changes. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Retrieving Cookie Data Through Document.cookie

Jul 20, 2005

In my web application we are able to store large data in the browser
cookie keeping in mind the limit of 300 cookies per cookie file, 20
keys per cookie per domain and 4KB max size of each cookie. We are
unable to retreive this large amount of data immediately after storing
through document.cookie in IE browser (The same works fine in
Netscape).

Is there any limit on the size of the data that can be retreived using
document.cookie in IE browser? Could you please suggest a solution to
this problem I am facing.

GetElementByName Not A Function Error

Mar 6, 2006

I have a function that I am working with on onload of the body.

RIght now I don't think the function is important, I am just trying to call it and pass it the name of the field I need it to use and it is giving me an error.

Here is my function call in the body tag and the quotes are escaped because the html is set in a local var so...

onLoad="d.updateOptions(document.employees.getElementByName('company'), 'dept');"

I have also tried leaving the form name out

onLoad="d.updateOptions(document.getElementByName('company'), 'dept');"

The error I am getting is Error: document.getElementByName is not a function

I thought this was how you used this. Can someone enlighten me as to what is wrong with this please?
