Changing Text Color Automatically
Aug 31, 2005
I want to change the color of a each word in a block of text. For example I want each word in a sentence to change to a different color automatically.
I was thinking that is if it was possible to move the color tags around each word and put a time delay between each time it moves but how I will accomplish these two actions.

I'm the webmaster for a recreational organization. As part of one page of the
site, I have an HTML "Calendar at a Glance" of the organization's events for
the month. It's a simple table of a calendar, 7 across by whatever needed
down, and I manually create it each month - not a big deal.
Every day I go in and darken the background color of the current day's cell
by changing the appropriate <TD> entry to <TD bgcolor="c63800"> and uploading
the page. Takes well under a minute start to finish. Thus the calendar
gradually changes color over the course of the month, with the past dates dark
and the future dates lighter and thus more apparent to the eye.
But I have to ask if there's a nifty way in which this might be done
automatically, based on the current day and the number (the day of the month)
that follows the <TD> entry.
A typical "before" entry is
<TD>23<br>Peet's Coffee, Newport Beach<br><br>8 AM: Don<br>9 AM: Molly</TD>
and an "after" entry is
<TD bgcolor="c63800">23<br>Peet's Coffee, Newport Beach<br><br>8 AM: Don<br>9
AM: Molly</TD>
I don't pretend to be a javascript heavy, but can usually stumble my way
through a task given some words of wisdom. Is this "doable"?

[code]....We have a set list of shows that air each day, and on the site we have a marquee tag on the homepage that scrolls through showing each show and its broadcast time. Right now we're stuck changing this schedule each day by hand, but it's tough considering we're all college students ourselves and sometimes our own schedules simply don't allow the time.Is there a code that would allow this kind of a daily update to happen automatically?
The format for the schedule is such:
4 - 5 pm // "Show 01"
5 - 6 pm // "Show 02"
6 - 8 pm // "Show 03"
[code]....

So I'm trying to change the background color of a textbox depending on how many characters are enter (putting it green/red depending on count), and I'm having a hell of a time. There are 50 different textbox IDs on the page (give or take, dynamically generated), each unique/sequentially numbered (id1, id2 ... id50).Now I'm not that good with Javascript, but this is what I can up with so far.I was trying to use 'this.id' so I wouldn't have to name each of the IDs.

How on earth do you use javacript to change the text color of an input element, and have it work with IE??? I've tried numerous solutions. All of them work on browsers such as Mozilla. But none of them work on IE.
This works in every browser I've tried besides IE:
var whatever = document.createElement( 'input' );
whatever.type = 'text'
// (more code)...
whatever.style.color = 'black'
This also works for other browsers besides IE:
whatever.style.cssText = 'color:black;'
I've tried other things as well. Nothing works in IE. Is there anyway
to change the text color inside an input box dynamically, and have it
work in IE?

Anyways I have a textarea that I have managed through the magic of google to have the default text clear out with the onfocus and if the textarea is left blank to put the default text back in with onblur. I now have a new problem that is a little CSS and a little JS I suppose. I want the default text in the textarea to be grey and the user submitted text to be black. I know it is possible because... well facebook has it.
<tr>
<td colspan="2">
Invite via Email: <br />
<cftextarea name="emails" cols="50" rows="3" value="Separate Emails by Comma" onclick = "if (this.value == 'Separate Emails by Comma') this.value = '';" onblur = "if (this.value == '') this.value = 'Separate Emails by Comma';" ></cftextarea>
</td>
</tr>
I don't actually have to put the text in the JS Function, but to have it pull the default text from attribute that would be awesome to.

I am currently successfully using the following code to randomly change the color of specified text ("quotations" - see below) each time the page is reloaded. The only problem is that the colors are too random. Instead of the code I now have, I'm looking for code that would allow me to define a distinct list of colors through which the text would randomly rotate each time the page loads. In other words, I want to choose each of the randomly loaded colors of my text.
<html><head>
<script type="text/javascript">
var quotations = new Array()
quotations[1]= "text1"
quotations[2]= "text2"
quotations[3]= "text3"
quotations[4]= "text4"
quotations[5]= "text5"
function display(){
a=Math.floor(Math.random()*quotations.length)
document.getElementById('quotation').innerHTML=quotations[a]
setTimeout("display()",500000) .....
}
</script>
<script language="Javascript">
function rancolour(){
var red = Math.floor(Math.random() * 255);
var green = Math.floor(Math.random() * 255);
var blue = Math.floor(Math.random() * 255);
document.all.main.style.color = 'rgb('+red+','+green+','+blue+')';
}
</script>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/style.css">
</head><body>
<body onLoad="rancolour();">
<div id="main" style="color:#FF0062">
<div id="quotation"><SCRIPT type="text/javascript">display()</SCRIPT></div>
<form onchange="display(this.value)">
<input type="submit" id="style3" value="M O R E" />
</form></div></div></body></html>

How can I control the color of the result of document.write output without changing the forground color of the entire page? Note my document write includes variables, so I was hesitant to imbed an html command in the document.write.

I have this markup:
[Code]...
There are two radio buttons, sometimes one will be disabled, other times the other will be disabled. I would like to make a script that: First: Changes the color of surrounding text of the disabled radio button to the color grey. Second: Checks the other radio button.
This was my plan: I would make a script that: First: Removes all the current classes and add the class "greyed_out" (or better: change only the color of) the parent element, all siblings and children of siblings (if any) of the radio button that is disabled at that time.Second: Sets the attribute "checked to the other radio button". I made a script, but when I set the bottom radio button to disabled the script doesn't work:

What I need to do is basically if the value of resultingtime is greater that the value of delay time I need the value shown in red(ff0000) and bold and if it isnt then I need it displayed in bold green(00ff00). but Ive tried doing this in my javascript and found that I cant code it in there the way that I know. I think that I have to do it in the html coding but I dont know how.

I'm having a problem dynamically changing the color of a table background.
I'm not sure exactly how to word this, but I'll give an example.
I have a function called greentored(propname)
i want to be able to change the following to a different color:
document.all.propname.style.visibility
but substitute the propname with the variable that I'm sending over.
Here is what I had written before but it did not work, it should be easy to
understand what i'm trying to do:
function greentored(propname) {
changecolor = "document.all." + propname + ".style.background";
changecolor = "green";
}
I understand why this doesn't work because all i'm doing is reasigning
"changecolor" to equal green, rather then setting the property of the first
instance of "changecolor" to green.
