Image Changing And Changing InnerHTML With JS : Query

Jul 6, 2011

Ive got a small image of a power button and when pressed the inner section on the button changes to yellow, but when its pressed down Im also trying to get part of my H1 (main header logo title) to change to yellow.

Ive created a span with an id surrounding the letters of the H1 that I want to change, the id being : "power";

The javascript that I have come up with so far and works is as follows:

<img id="poweron" src="http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/images/power.png" alt="Power on button" onmousedown="this.src='images/poweron.png';" onmouseup="this.src='images/power.png';"/>

I understand Im not really supposed to be using inline JS, and I know Ive got to create a function for the onmousedown event to trigger changing the H1 text, so am I under the right impression that the JS so far written is redundant and will have to be re-written so thats contained within a script placed just before the closing </body> and an external script for invoking the main function ?

Isn't that weird? Because text_val is assigned the value of innerHtml. So if text_val is shown to be 50 then why is innerHtml shows value as 5? The div always shows 5 seconds.

Changing InnerHTML Of DIV From Within IFrame In Firefox

I created a page that has an iframe on it. Within this iframe I call an asp page. The asp page is supposed to do some work and then update the innerHTML of a <div> object on the parent page to indicate that processing of the page in the iframe is complete. The code works in IE but not FireFox. I am wondering what is the best way to make the script work for both browsers?

Sub page JavaScript:
updateParent(){
parent.document.getElementById("num2").innerHTML = '<center><strong>Processing complete.</strong></center>';
}
Parent page:

InnerHTML / DIV Size Changing To Various Strings

Dec 21, 2010

I was playing around with some onmouseover/onmouseout and setting innerHTML to various strings depending on what has been mousedover/out. The DIV for the innerHTML was above the items being onmouseovered/out and because the strings sent were of different lengths, sometimes a one or two line wrap would happen and everything below it would be resized accordingly creating a horrible effect. For reference, what is a good way to approach building pages which are immune to this effect?

Looping Through Table Rows Not Changing Value From InnerHTML?

I'm populating a table from my database using .Net and within this application, I am then comparing the value the user has entered to the first column of every table row in the pre-populated table.For some reason, when I loop through each row in the table and return the value in the first column...the value always stays the same when in fact i know its different by just looking at it on the screen and in the html source.I throw up an alert message for each time it loops, and it its looping the correct amount of times, just not returning a the correct value.

JQuery :: Changing The Value Of An Input Field With Val() Is Not Changing The Posted Value?

Feb 2, 2011

I am trying to dynamically clear the value of a form input field and then submit the form.When I used $('#my_field').val('') to clear the field, it was cleared on the screen but when the form was submitted the original value of the input field was posted.My browser is FireFox and I can see using FireBug that when the field is cleared, firebug is still showing the html code with the old value. E.G. <input type="text" value="old_value" />The same situation occurred if I used $('#my_field').attr('value', '') to clear the field.The same situation occurred if I actually changed the value of the field rather than just clearing it.To work around this problem I ended up using the $('#my_field').removeAttr('value') to clear the field before it was submitted.

Changing Text With Changing Random Images?

May 7, 2009

I am a complete novice when it come to Javascript. I copied the script for displaying random images at a specific interval (from javascriptkit.com). I would appreciate knowing whether the following is possible:

The pages are based on tables, so the parts that change are all cells.

1. Can I define text instead of an image in the array? i.e. can I have the image change to say an apple in one cell and the next cell have text explaining what an apple is?

2. Would it be possible to put a countdown timer for when the image/text is going to change?

Using DOM Instead Of InnerHTML

Apr 10, 2006

I'm currently using AJAX to perform some dynamic updates and return some text to the web page. At the moment I'm using innerHTML as follows:

document.getElementById('WrkItemDiv').innerHTML=wrkItemReq.responseText;

but I'd like to be standards compliant. How would I do this using pure DOM stuff?

btw WrkItemDiv is an exisiting <div> I simply want to overwrite the text within it with the newly returned text.

Also, is it possible to change the onMouseOVer code with some text returned in the same way as above using pure DOM?

InnerHTML

Oct 22, 2007

I am getting data from two tables in a database using a dropdown box with a onchange and some ajax to update two diferent Div tags, basically the id is passed to a php page,, I grab the data from the two tables, I then echo the data in two html tables. I echo a ** for a delimiter between the two tables,

Then I use a javascript split function to split the responseText into two peices so I can update each DIV with the coresponding data.

Everything works in Firefox, but in IE7 only one div gets updated with its data, the other div will not change, and I get a unknown runtime error. However if I go into my php page and change the data I am echoing after the delimiter to a simple echo 'test' it will work. Code:

text into the cell with innerHTML - works beautifully with Firefox but
fails with IE. I guess IE doesn't support this way of doing it, but is
there another way of doing it with DOM?

newr = document.createElement('tr');

stbl.appendChild(newr);
newc = document.createElement('td');

newr.appendChild(newc);
newr.cells[0].innerHTML = (nr+1)+". "+sa[ti][nr + 1]+"<br><hr>";

InnerHTML In IE Vs Firefox

var newrow = document.createElement('tr');
tb.insertBefore(newrow,tb.rows[tb.rows.length-1]);

<table id="thetable">
<tr><td>1-1</td><td>1-2</td><td>1-3</td></tr>
<tr><td>2-1</td><td>2-2</td><td>2-3</td></tr>
<tr><td>3-1</td><td>3-2</td><td>3-3</td></tr>

Using Frames And Getting InnerHTML

Mar 8, 2006

I am using a frameset with two frames that looks like this:

|------------------------------|
| |--------------------------| |
| | FRAME 1 | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| |--------------------------| |
| |
| |--------------------------| |
| | FRAME 2 | |
| | | |
| | <html><body> | |
| | <table><tbody> | |
| | <tr> | |
| | <td>Data 1</td> | |
| | <td>Data 2</td> | |
| | </tr> | |
| | </tbody></table> | |
| | </body></html> | |
| |--------------------------| |
|------------------------------|

FRAME 2 has no height, so it looks as if you only have 1 frame. I am
using FRAME 2 to retrieve data from my server.

I open up FRAME 1 with my webpage and leave FRAME 2 empty. When the
user request data I target FRAME 2 and the data is loaded into FRAME 2.

What I have been trying to do is this. Take the innerHTML of the FRAME
2's table and load it into a table in FRAME 1.

InnerHTML And SCRIPT Tag

Jul 19, 2006

I use Ajax to retrieve part of a page I need to update. I update a DIV
element with the HTML contents I get from another page.

It works fine.

However the HTML have a SCRIPT tag that the browser should process, but
it doesn't.

Here's an example:

--- pageX.aspx ---
<table>
<tr>
<td>Table 01</td>
</tr>
</table>
<script>
alert("HI");
</script>
--- end pageX.aspx ---

--- page on browser ---
<div id="divContents"></div>

<script>
divContents.innerHTML = getHtmlFromPage("pageX.aspx");
</script>
--- end page on browser ---

When the prowser gets the "pageX.aspx" and updates the contents of the
'divContents' it displays the table, but it didn't process the script.

What am I doing wrong?

Maybe there is a FireFox extension for this? Firebug?
