where a user might change form data without first focusing on the form element. For instance, can it be counted on that an input field will be focused (onFocus) prior to its value being changed?
I know that it can't be counted on to be secure, but for general use by everyday users, can one assume an element's onFocus event will be triggered prior to the user changing form data? If not, in what scenarios isn't this the case?
How does one cause a form element to appear ONLY if a certain form selection is made before it?
That is for example say there is a form element of type Radio called "format" so only if they select format value = normal then the form input fields called URL and Name are to appear as the next choices otherwise form input field Group and checklist Places are to appear as the next choices.
The font size is 28px. How do i change the font size to 12px onfocus?

I'm trying to replace a lot of my prior flash work with JQuery whenever a new project comes up. Although I mostly used Action Script 2 I did start working in AS 3 so the basis of JQuery makes sense to me.
As an experiment, I wanted to try adding a span tag around a link inside a dom. The DOM itself was created through Drupal, so simply adding a span tag in the html is not easy, or maybe even possible.
I created a .js file and linked it in my template file. Firebug tells me that the file is being read. Inside the file I have this script;

I check out the results and nothing is added to the DOM. I know I must be missing a line of script somewhere..
Can a random page be loaded without a prior visit to a site?
I have a list of 15 people with a photo and contact information in a table with 3 columns and 5 rows. The issue is that the people near the bottom want a chance to be at the top the first time the page is viewed. It is unlikely that a second visit would happen.
Is this possible to load a random page for a site without it being viewed or logged into before, therefore no cookies will be used.
The specific piece I'm stuck on at the moment is this:I have a form with a lot of fields, two of which are subnet (a drop box populated from a database, via PHP) and IP address (a text input box). When the user selects a subnet, the value is sent to a PHP script that queries the DB and returns the next unused IP address. If all I wanted was to display that in a div next to the IP input box, I'd be set -- that works fine.Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the returned data into a text input box, which is what I actually want.I know that ocument.getElementById("div_id").innerHTML=request.responseText; will display the text in a div in my sample code. Relatively new to jQuery but have a problem with getting data to display.Using a webform with 2 forms. User slects and inputs data into the first form, clicks a button then using jQuery .ajax submits the serialized data to a php script. The script processes the input into multiple paragraphs of text which is based on the input from the first form.The data is returned to the webpage and displayed in a text area (of the 2nd form) where the user can edit it to fine tune the wording. The 2 forms are displayed in different tabs so it is easy to move back and forward between the 2 forms.
The problem occurs when the user goes back to the first form and enters or selects different text and then click the submit button to generate a whole new text for insertion into the textarea on the second form. For certain fields the modified text is displayed.However if the whole of the text in the textarea is deleted, then the user clicks the submit button to re-generate the text content area then nothing at all is ever interted into the textarea. If have user alert to check that data is returned from the php handler and this text is correct. BUT when I click on the tab to see the textarea (id is "draftrec") there is no text inserted. The relevant function is below and the line that should insert the text into the textarea is:

The first changes the size of the surrounding div, the second tries to find out about the size of the changed div, but only gets the old value before the first ready item started. If i place a new ready item that holds for a second (i.e. an alert box) the calculation of the first ready item is done when the last ready item starts and all works fine. Is it possible for a ready item to wait and not to start until the item before is finished?

I have just two tabs and I want to set up the script to have the second tab automatically hidden prior to reading the javascript code because right now it shows the contents of both tabs when the page is loading and then the second tab disappears after all the script has loaded.

I would like to have a main form (written in PHP) that has a "lookup" button next to a text field. When the user clicks "lookup", it should open a new window that lets them search (child.page1). When they enter a name or DOB into the search form, it submits the form through PHP (via POST), to a results page (child.page2). This displays all persons in the database which have a name or DOB == to the search term(s), with a checkbox next to each match. They click the checkbox (or alternenatively, a link), and return the checkbox value to the main window.
I have everything working right now, except that (child.page2) doesn't recognize the main window. If the data is entered on (child.page1), it works fine. I'm not very familiar with javascript.. is this even possible? I've considered using frames, to keep the parent-child relationship evident to the computer, but figured I'd check to see if there's an easier way.
I have PHP form application used to by Sales reps to Enter information about customers but I want to prevent Sales reps from entering same information because of web form behavior after they want to add new customer ? is their away in using Jquery to clear the form for new entry ??

After the user types in the textboxes and press enter (with the cursor still
in one of the textboxes), buttonXXX should be pressed by default.(the user
is too lazy to take the cursor over to buttonXXX and click).
The problem is the top/left most button (button A) gets pressed which annoys
them to death. So I tried to do this.
In the bottonA's onfocus event handle-
document.forms[0].elements['buttonXXX'].focus() .
Result: ButtonXXX receives focus alright, but the code for buttonA still
executes!
For those who have been using Outlook Express, you must be pretty used to
the fact that whenever you focus on the preview section, the header for the
preview turns from grey to blue, while the text turns from black to white.

I'm getting an incredible behaviour of internet explorer.
I have a generated html page with one form and many input of checkbox
type.
Those checkbox are grouped in 4 lists and each list of checkbox
contain checkboxs with the same name so I can easily retrieve on my
server side (java) wich checkbox are checked with a
request.getParameterValues(). (Each checkbox has a value corresponding
to the id of the row)
Anyway that's not on the server that the problem is.
Here it comes. When more than 132 checkboxes are checked, my form
submit generate a javascript error. When 132 or less checkboxes are
checked it submit without problem.
I tested the page with firefox, the problem is not here with that
browser and it can submit liek for example 400 checkboxes.
Then I tried to make a workaround, on submiting I browse the elements
list of my document and I create a big string containing all the ids
checked and then I uncheck all checkboxes and submit. there again it
fail to work.
I'm really affraid I'm looking at a nasty bug of Internet explorer
here and I'm going to engineer a more deep workaround if noone can
point out a solution to me.
I should precise that I have no iframes on that page. I indeed saw
that some people got 'access is denied' on submit form but in my case
it works when not too much data is going to be submited !
I'm having 2 select boxes, if i change the first one i would like a 2nd select box to change the content, everything is comming from a database. not xml because i want everything to be stored in a database for. is this possible with an onchange command or something?

I'm developing a website where a visistor does not have to use the mouse.
All he has to do is use the Tab-key or key-combinations to jump to specific
hyperlinks (containing accesskeys). Next, he presses the Enter key to follow the hyperlink.
My question is: is it possible to change color of the hyperlink when a
hyperlink get the focus. I do not only want to see the dotted line, I want the hyperlink to lighten up.
My code works perfectly inside DreamWeaver but is crazy in both IE8 and FireFox.
In FireFox, I cannot insert text in the text fields.
In IE8, I can insert text, but nothing else happens.
