Can't Get Function To Fire Onload / Fix It?
Mar 3, 2011
I'm trying to get a select box to populate onload but can't get it to go. It works fine onchange.
This populates the city select box from my db depending on what state is selected.
code...
I've tried variations of handleOnChange(cb_state), handleOnChange(document.getElementById('cb_state'), handleOnChange(ydntuwrkupceofcrp), I've tried chaining the 2 functions together, but nothing I do seems to get this to work.
What am I missing here?

I have an frame in one of my documents (not a frameset document). The top
level document has an "onload" handler in the BODY tag. I have found that
if the frame is unable to navigate to the document it desires, the top
level document "onload" handler does not fire, and therefore important
Javascript function I need called is not called.
The frame document's URL belongs to a service which is not always available,
and when it isn't available, a 404 error results in the frame and ends up
neutering the top level document body onload handler.
I can deal with the 404 error, but is there some way to ensure that the top
level document's body onload handler fires?

The function "setEqualHeight" fires on document ready and works well. It sets two columns to equal height. The problem is that I have tabs and accordions in the columns and therefore need to recalculate the column heights after the document is loaded: I try on click but nothing happens. Why?
This works fine:

I have a validate function that checks the form for blanks and all, also in the window.onload function I have one where it checks the format of the cc num and exp date. I am trying to get them to work together so that after I have entered the ccnum and ccexp it still makes me enter in the information needed for validate function. Right now after the ccnum and ccexp is entered it passes and submits.

I am trying to run this javascript function:
<script language="javascript">
function selectElement(idElement){
var colorSelected='#FFFFCC';
var colorNoSelected='#FFFFFF';
divElement= document.getElementById('sel'+idElement);
inputElement= document.getElementById('lselect'+idElement);

So that it runs when the window loads. Meaning if a checkbox is already selected, the background will already be changed for it.

I am having problems with setting a value with onload. Here is an example of the code.
<form method="get" class="searchform" action=theAction" onload="if('' == '') {document.getElementById('searchinput').value='Type Search Query';} else {document.getElementById('searchinput').value='june';}">
<input class="searchinput" name="s" type="text">
<input class="searchbutton" value="Go" type="submit"></form>
I know you guys might be thinking that the if condition is hard coded, and the if will never change. In the real code, php changes the first value of the if's condition.
I think the above code should always set the value 'Type Search Query', in the box. However, it does not set any value.

You do not need to read all of this code but I included it in case any of it was causing the error. The onload event does not fire the go() function (I want to fire this before I actually do what I want to do onload). Why is it not working??? Code:

I'm having a bit of trouble in delaying the loading of images in a javascript slideshow. I need the rest of the page to load first and then the show should begin.
<script type="text/javascript">
//new fadeshow(IMAGES_ARRAY_NAME, slideshow_width, slideshow_height, borderwidth, delay, pause (0=no, 1=yes), optionalRandomOrder)
new fadeshow(fadeimages, 710, 435, 0, 3000,0)
</script>
The above script in the body of the page, in div that houses the slideshow. The rest of the script is in the head section.
if you need to see the head scipt i can post it (it's very long so i haven't done that straight away.)

I have this thing I would call with the onLoad(); function, but that does not seem to work well with IE. It's a css-popup that I want to fire when the page loads, this is the code I use (It works well in FF but, ofcourse, not in IE):
Code:
<body onLoad="popup('popUpDiv')"></body>
I've tried this workaround:
Code:
<span onLoad="popup('popUpDiv')"></span> But that doesn't work.
I've tried this:Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
window.onload=popup('popUpDiv');
</script>
Whick doesn't work eighter.I am basically completly new to js so I might have overlooked something that to you would seem basic.

I'm trying to convert an on load event into a function. I think this should be really simple, but I'm new to Javascript. The following works fine as the page loads
var favorite = GetCookie('DemoName');
if (favorite > Ƈ')
{
window.location.href = 'page2.htm'
}
else
{
alert('You must complete the lesson before proceeding');
}
I have tried to make it into a function by adding function CookieRedirect() {
at the top and a closing
} at the end, and calling it using a form button in the body:
<INPUT TYPE="button" VALUE="Redirect" onClick="CookieRedirect ()">-
but no luck.

I'm playing with a modal Dialog of ericmartin (simplemodal) which I found at this url: [URL]
It's called "Confirm override". This function is called through a click on the button or on the link. Now I want to call this function onload I dont' have really a clue, how to manipulate the current script to make the correct changes.
Imho this is the code snippet, which calls the popup through a click.
jQuery(function ($) {
$('#confirm-dialog input.confirm, #confirm-dialog a.confirm').click(function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
// example of calling the confirm function
[Code].....
how to make the popup via "onload".

But I was wondering is it possible to make it so that if you visited an anchor link: For example, let's say you visit:
Code:
[URL]
Then a code would run to let's just say... change the color scheme of the website. (And theoretically they same would happen with #v2/#v3, ect)
But the code would NOT run if the requested URL is just
Code:
[URL]
The reason I was wondering is I want the user to be able to "bookmark" a certain script per-say, so that when they revisit the site they don't have to reclick things to get back to where they were before.

how to use an javascript function to redirect without using <body onload>.
Normally I use this: <META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" Content="0;URL=ajax.php?page=mypage">
But since I'm using ajax, and only want to redirect tha ajax part, the above can not be used...
When I have a hyperlink to go to a page in ajax it looks like this: <a href="#" onclick="load('ajax.php?page=mypage','contentarea');return false;">
Is there anyway that I can have the ajax part set into the META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" or is there an other way to do this?

I've been developing an application that uses a combination of Javascript and PHP. It's a sizeable form that includes the option for the user, on certain form objects, to add additional text boxes for multiple answers. I created a Javascript function that uses the insertRow() method. The user can click on a link which adds a row with a text box for an additional response. My function works great and, after some work around I got the values to post correctly, but where I'm running into trouble is re-populating those additional fields if I have to bring the user back to edit input that was not put in correctly.
My solution was to have create a PHP varible which is a javascript function call, e.g.:
$var = "js_function('varName1','varName2', 'varName3', 1 , '" . $post_val . "')";
Using the posted variables that apply and then echoing that into the onload event handler in the body tag. This calls the same function that was originally used to add the row to have it add the row again and populate it with the already submitted data. It all looks great, like it should work, but it doesn't and I'm wondering if there is something about the onload event handler which I don't know about. It was my understanding that the event handler executes when the page is fully loaded. If that is the case, my solution should work.
I don't know if there's some error I'm not seeing or if I'm trying to make the onload event handler do something it's not supposed to. I used a similar solution on another application and it works there. To give a better understanding, here is the function:
function appendIaRow(tblId, valID, oName, Nbr, populate1, populate2) {
var tbl = document.getElementById(tblId);
var newRow = tbl.insertRow(tbl.rows.length);
var numi = document.getElementById(valID);
var num = (document.getElementById(valID).value -1)+ 2;
numi.value = num;
var rowID = 'Row'+num;
newRow.setAttribute('id',rowID);
var newCell = newRow.insertCell(0);
newCell.innerHTML = "<input type=\"text\" name=\""+oName+"Name["+num+"]\" value=\""+populate1+"\" size=\"20\" maxlength=\"150\"/> <a href=\"Javascript:;\" onclick=\"deleteLastRow('"+tblId+"','"+rowID+"');\" style=\"text-decoration:none\">X</a><br /><br />";
var newCell2 = newRow.insertCell(1);
if (Nbr == 1){
newCell2.innerHTML = "";
}else{
newCell2.innerHTML = "# <input type=\"text\" name=\""+oName+"Number["+num+"]\" value=\""+populate2+"\" size=\"17\" maxlength=\"17\"/><br /><br />";
}}
Here is the coding for the event handler('initialize()' is a different function altogether - that works):
<body onload="initialize(),<?php echo $init ?>;">
And here is what it looks like from the source code when the page is displaying in a browser:
<body onload="initialize(),appendIaRow('AdmTbl','AdmValue','Administrator', 1, 'Joan'),;">
