Calling Window Alert To HTML Body

I cannot even get a window alert to pop up. All I want to do is call the function in the body.
In this example, the same javascript window function is called by two separate form buttons(onClicks) to open('window.open' ) or bring forward( 'object.focus') a window.
One button calls the window function directly from the form and one button calls the window function indirectly from within the body of the html document by first activating a 'document.submit' method .
In particular, using a PC with either Explorer or Firefox, both indirect and direct routes opened a window, but only the direct route could bring the window forward(via 'object.focus') if it was already open. Using a Mac with Firefox, the direct route worked well either to open or to bring forward an existing window, but the indirect route did nothing. On the other hand, when using a Mac with the Safari browser, both routes worked well to open a window and keep it on top.
What do I change or add to get full functionality for the indirect route with the Firefox and Explorer browsers as I get with Safari?

I have a function which I placed in the header of my html file:
I want to call this from within the body of my html page:
The GetCookie func works and returns name correctly.
The first alert() box is displayed, - the second one isn't!
It does not come back from the call to UngreyInstallButtons()
Why?
I also tried this:
Again, it does not execute the = false lines at all.
I have a web site where multiple html pages are opened at a time & messages are received or those pages are refreshed automatically using meta-tag.
what I want is whenever that page is refreshed, the particular html window should notify user (as user may have opened other html window), now notification could be by setting focus to that html window which is refreshed, but then this will distract & frustate the user as he was referring other html window. What I would like to do is make that window blink or some notification like yahoo or msn mail received. But I want this kind of feature in HTML/Javascript.
After a correct code has been entered, call a function using the code to determine the Plan Cost Per Month. The Plan Cost Per Month will be returned to the body.
Here is what I have so far....
I'm experiencing some strange issues using the DOM with JS. Let's say this is my HTML source:
<html>
<head>
<title></title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="exercise1.js"></script>
[Code]....
And here is the one line of code in my external JS file: window.alert document.documentElement.lastChild.tagName); This should show BODY in the alert box, shouldn't it? It doesn't, it shows HEAD (in FF 3, IE 7 & Safari 3) and I really have NO (!) idea why it is doing that. Let me show you another example of why it's driving me insane.. window.alert(document.documentElement.lastChild.firstChild.tagName); Should show P, no? It doesn't. FF 3: undefined, IE 7: TITLE, Safari 3: undefined. Again, the question is: Why?!
I have a web page that has a short flash show on it, then it redirects to the main site index page, using a setTimout in body onload. That was all working fine. Now I need to add an OS detection function to redirect iphone and ipad users immediately (bypassing the flash pape). So, I have 2 functions that need to be in the body onload. I figured the logical thing to do would be to write another function that calls the first 2, then put that one in the onload. But now nothing is working. I have played with in for an hour with no luck.
Just as a note: Original, before I had to add the OS detection, there was just the delayer function, and it was called thusly:

How can i call a javascript alert function from an if condition in PHP?
For instance:
if (A == B)
{
CALL alert();
}
It appears that .html() is somehow messing up reading the contents of a div.Here is my php code which loads into the div.
$own_pre_selection .= "<input name='" . mysql_result($result,$i,"did") . "' value='" . mysql_result($result,$i,"did") . "' type='hidden'><span class='addremove' onclick="recordchecks('" . mysql_result($result,$i,"dname") . "','" . mysql_result($result,$i,"did") . "')";><u>Remove</u></span> Â " . mysql_result($result,$i,"dname") . "<br>";
Here is what I see as source code after the page renders.
<input name='677' value='677' type='hidden'><span class='addremove' onclick="recordchecks('Heart Neoplasms','677')";><u>Remove</u></span> Â Heart Neoplasms<br><input name='1298' value='1298' type='hidden'><span class='addremove' onclick="recordchecks('Heart Septal Defects; Atrial','1298')";><u>Remove</u></span> Â Heart Septal Defects; Atrial<br></div>
When I test alert() the .html() contents it appears like this. It seems to screw up the quote escape and changes " to " ;="" after the recordchecks().[code]...
So even though the source code looks perfect, if I alert() the div contents with html() it seems to get a bit garbled in the process.
I have been trying to load a javascript function from the body onload
html tag, but I only want the function to load the first time the page
is loaded: I have investigated but haven't found anything that works..
I thought about cookies, but what if the user's disable them?
My code:
//I want to call the Toggle function below only on the 1st time the
page is loaded:
<script language="javascript">
function Toggle(item) {
obj=document.getElementById(item);
visible=(obj.style.display!="none")
key=document.getElementById("x" + item);
if (visible) {
obj.style.display="none";
} else {
obj.style.display="block";
}
}
function Expand() {
divs=document.getElementsByTagName("DIV");
for (i=0;i<divs.length;i++) {
divs[i].style.display="block";
key=document.getElementById("x" + divs[i].id);
key.innerHTML="<img src='textfolder.gif' width=ï ' height=ཕ'
hspace=Ɔ' vspace=Ɔ' border=Ɔ'>";
}
}
function Collapse() {
divs=document.getElementsByTagName("DIV");
for (i=0;i<divs.length;i++) {
divs[i].style.display="none";
key=document.getElementById("x" + divs[i].id);
key.innerHTML="<img src='Button1_01_over.gif' width=ðC'
height=ཡ' hspace=Ɔ' vspace=Ɔ' border=Ɔ'>";
}
}
</script>
// C# code I inserted above the body tag on my aspx page:
function handler()
{
if(<%=!Page.IsPostBack%> )
{
Toggle('support');
}
}
//The body tag with handler being called:
<body onload="handler()">
FYI: The Toggle('suport); function is not being executed. If i put the
function in the <body onload tag.. it does run..

in my <body> tag how can i get the pname value,qty value which is built by dhtml.
Suppose I have a page that I cannot edit(in before "get a real host") but can apply Javascript to. For stylistic purposes, I would like to wrap the contents of the page in a <div> or <table>. Could I use Javascript to insert the needed HTML tags directly after the <body> tag in a fashion similar to document.write? I'm not very familiar with Javascript, but I've tried a few half-baked solutions of my own using GetElementsByTagName('body') and other variants, but no luck. I've tried scanning Google as well but I couldn't find anything that would work for me there either but I'm not sure if that's because I wasn't searching for the right keywords or what.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to have some text in an html file, but I don't want to have several paragraphs in that file. Can I use Javascript to insert text from a different location? If so, how do I do that?Can it really be impossible? I mean, you do it with pictures all the time... I just want to do it with text instead...I can't post any code because I don't know how to do it. >_>" I've been trying to find stuff online, but most of that was to put a whole window inside it, with scrollbars and stuff.

what i want to do is have a function on the "onClick" event to created the body onBlur=myfunction() and pass it a function when the body blurs.
im writing a .net mvc web app and in this step Id like to send a post back to my controller including date and time values that i have stored inside hidden fields on a form. where im getting confused (I am very new to java script) is how I can now read those values and add them to the URL I'm constructing
Code:
<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="Menu" runat="server">
<form id="form1" name="form1" action="WorkOrder" method="post">
<input type="hidden" id="time" name="time" />

I want to create a body on html page , i want to add all the functionalities , like change of font size and color when i create the document. and when i read the document in view mode it will show the field in the entered format.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWith the body tag calling out 'window onload', a function with a
'window.open' fails at the 'window.open' line.
At first I thought it was the entire function failing, but I tested
with alerts and found that it was only the 'window.open' that fails to
execute.
The function is being called by a link, and I suspected some problem
with the body alink/vlink but after cutting that out I saw no
improvement.
There is also a form in the page, and I need the 'window onload' to
set the focus to the proper control, thus I HAVE to have the Body tag,
right?
In the below code, the alert message returns in one instance: 'someAnimal is [Mammal "Mr. Biggles"]' I don't understand how this is possible. We pass as an argument 'Mr. Biggles' to the Mammal constructor. Then assign it to the object name property. But then it ends there. There is a function called toString which will return the alert. But the toString function is not being called like this: alert('someAnimal is '+someAnimal.toString()); If it was like how it is above, it would make sense to me but now it makes no sense to me because I don't see where that toString() is being called - I only see that it is prototyped to the Mammal object.
Code:
function Mammal(name){
this.name=name;
this.offspring=[];
}
Mammal.prototype.haveABaby=function(){
var newBaby=new Mammal("Baby "+this.name);
this.offspring.push(newBaby);

I've written a jQuery script for a crossfade slide show. My script works fine when I put it it the body section of my HTML. But when I move it to the head, the script no longer works. The div where the images are supposed to appear remains blank. Does this matter? Does this mean that there's a flaw in my script? Should I be worried? Or should I simply leave the script where it is in the body section.
Here's the crossfade slideshow script:
I would like to learn jquery but have already stumbled upon a little problem.
My whole website is programmed in PHP. On every page I include my header.php containing the header, login bar etc. I am now trying to show/hide a set of divs in my HTML BODY.
Now I understand that I need to put my jquery code in my HTML HEAD tags, however, I don't want to put it in my header.php because then the jquery will be included in all my pages.
I have an html page which currently has two different text input (I'd like to add more if I can get the two to work!) I then want to output the calculated taxes (eventually I want to add on calculated profit as well) then output the taxes to my page.
My question is, if I input 2 or more dollar amounts, how can I have just one function that calls each of the input ids so I can run them all through one function instead of a different function for each name id? Right now I have a jillion lines of code, and it seems like I should be able to enter each one of these through one function.
Also, is it possible to convert my text to parseFloat within that same one function? Or do I need a separate function that converts each name id to parseFloat?
this is the segment of the html page:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="calculate.js">
</script>
</head>
<body>
[Code]....
This is one portion of my function that calculates taxes. You can see I have "amount1" called in the function, this is where I am confused as to how I can change this code to call "amount1" then "amount2", then more and more as I want to be able to add on as many amount fields as I would like.
function calculate(getvalueFromField){
if (amount1 > 0 && amount1 <= 5000) {
taxincome = amount1 * .10;
return taxincome;
}
I have to call the script below from my html page. How would I do that? Do I need to modify the script at all? Put in a function that returns the random title to the html page?

Currently just trying to call functions from a .js file from my .html file. Here is the code, can't figure out why it doesn't work? It works if I put the medeltal(); into the .js file but I wanna call them from the html. Note that if I put the medeltal (20, 10, 30, 40); into the JS file at top it works just fine, but i can't seem to get it to work from the html file.
JS code:
function medeltal(var1, var2, var3, var4){
result = (var1 + var2 + var3 + var4) / 4;
alert(result);
}
.xhtml code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-W3CDTD XHTML 1.0 StrictEN" "[URL]">
<html xmlns="[uRL]" xml:lang="en">
<head>
<title>Uppgift 2</title>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html charset=iso-8859-1" />

<script type="text/javascript" src="script.js">
medeltal(20, 10, 30, 40);

I've improved the vbcode.js script for this forum software.(vBulletin) The impovement is, when you add a smilie or vbcode it is added at the point where the cursor is instead of at the end of previously written text.(only works with IE)
Here's my problem. When the user clicks on a smilie in the get more smilies popwindow, it calls the function created in the newly opened window instead of my enhanced function in the original window. How can I get the links in the small popup window to call the function in the original window and pass the smilie code to it also? It must be possible or are all objects of one window totally seperate from the other?
I'm trying to change the body colour of the parent window when a button is clicked inside an iFrame, using jquery. The code I have is as follows but it just doesn't do anything:

Normally in CSS you can use background: to bring in an image or a swf file and then display a logo over it from within the HTML as below.
<css>
.row-logo{ background: url(banners/boats_harbor.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat; height:172px;}
.row-logo img{ width:387px; height:110px; margin:0 0 0 0;}
<html>
<div class="row-logo"><a href="index.html"><img src="banners/ehba_logo.png" alt="" /></a></div>
However, I am currently working on a banner that rotates through images via javascript that I want to have in the background under css and still be able to display a logo from within the HTML code. As shown above, that is easy with a picture, but how do you call the javascript and then its ID from within the HTML?
