Text Style Decoration In Js

Nov 1, 2005

I am looking for the javascript equivalent of:

style="text-decoration:underline;" in a span tag created dynamically.

I was thinking it was:

mySPAN.style.text-decoration="underline";

but that should fail because "text-decoration" is not going to be
recognized.

Change CSS Text Style On Image Mouseover

Adjust Style On ABBR Or ACRONYM Alternate Text

Jul 23, 2005

I am using the ACRONYM tag to provide an explanation of codes within my
application. Example:

<p>The circuit <acronym title="Circuit P123T: Picton SS to Telebary
SS 345KV">P123T</acronym> is out
of service from 13:00 to 15:00 today</p>.

I would prefer a fancy balloon tip, but this allows me to store and retrieve
the text directly in a database table, and avoid having to add any
additional setup text to create any invisible balloon text. (Unless there is
another way).

I would like to change the style of the alternate text that appears, such as
increasing its font size and background color. Is there a way to do this as
CSS or in JavaScript ?

Remove Style From Selected (Highlighted) Span / Text In DIV

I have many divs with spans inside(just like it is below-no extra ids,classes for spans:

<span style="color:blue;">b</span>
<span style="color:white;">c</span>

What I would like to achieve: user selects with mouse "ab", click button(input type=button) which remove style from selected span/spans. Similar behavior like it is in TinyMCE.

Dyanmic Three Column Text(newspaper Style)? Want To Impress Your Boss Or Win An Impor

Jul 6, 2005

Does anyone know how to emulate the International Herald Tribune and their text layout? I just love how its in three columns and in seperate pagespage switching is so quick. The best thing is EVERYTHING is dynamic. Including page width and height, # of pages, font size.

I've tried to google it, but all I get is code to develop three column LAYOUTS. Agh! Downloading the site doesn't work for me either, the text screws up and overlaps each other.

JQuery :: Obtain ORIGINAL Style Setting - And NOT Computed Style?

May 5, 2010

My understanding had been that $.css("width") would return the original user selected style, eg "100%" or "10em", and $.width() returned the computed width, always in "px". Not so, following the code through for .css(), it calls something called getComputedStyle and the only difference between the two functions turns out to be a post-fix of "px" on the .css() result - not very useful. I need to know whether my user has called me with a proportional dimension, or a fixed one. How to tell with jQuery?

JQuery :: Using To Style List-style-type?

Oct 12, 2011

This is probably quite a simple problem but I can't figure out the answer. I'm working on a site that has news stories and events coming in. What I would like is to have the news stories to be styled with squares and events with discs for instance. I might be able to change the actual plug-in so the CSS affects this change, but I just wondered how I could change the list-style-type with jQuery.

How Would I Discover The Text In A Block Element Hidden By Overflow:hidden Style Being Set?

Sep 20, 2005

Specifically, assume I have a div tag of absolute dimensions. I need
to figure out, first, whether or not the text inside the div tag is
partially hidden by the overflow setting, and if so, what the hidden
text is.

Is this even possible? Obviously, the rendering engine in the browser
"knows" this information, but is it accessible through Javascript?

IE Not DOM For Style?

Jul 20, 2005

Is it just me, or does:

obj.setAttribute("style","border: thin solid navy");
(for example - no style seems to be set) not work in IE6 but works fine in NN6?

I don't want to use element.style[.cssText] just because.

Test file:

<html>
<head>
<title>Javascript test - dynamic elements</title>

<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function createDiv(divId, appendElement)
{
STYLE="border: thin solid navy; width: 300px; height: 300px;";

// create
D = document.createElement("div");

// set attributes
D.setAttribute("id",divId);
D.setAttribute("style",STYLE);

// append element
appendElement.appendChild(D);
}

function testRun()
{
createDiv("div1",document.getElementById("target"));
}
</script>
</head>

<body>
<form name="f1">
<p>
<input type="button" name="b1" value="test it" onClick="testRun()">
</p>
</form>
<div id="target"></div>

W3C And Style.left

What I wanted was to get rid of offsetLeft and use "proper" way instead....but when I do:

document.getElementById('someDiv').style.left;
I keep getting empty string, unless I first set it manually (in CSS or js)
to some value...

if that is intended behavior(that is if I haven't f***d up something :) in
my code), and there is no offsetLeft property in W3C recommendation, what is
then "standard compliant" way to make browser calculate coordinates of some
tag on the page???

DOM Style.display In IE?

Jul 15, 2005

I have the following function in my attempt to build a 'treeview' It should (and does in Firefox) display an indented <p> tag (css indents it). The problem however, it doesnt work in IE. When this function is fired IE builds a VERY small <p> tag without any content in it... I think the problem might by caused by style.display but I don't know how to solve it.

function r_treeview(test, path) {
// get DIV element
elm = document.getElementById(path);
pid = 'sub'+path;

// add paragraph (p) to contains var test
if (!document.getElementById(pid)) {
var pTag = document.createElement('p');
pTag.setAttribute('id', pid);
pTag.className = 'subp'
pTag.style.display = 'block'
elm.appendChild(pTag);
pTag.innerHTML = test;
}
}
