Dyanmic Three Column Text(newspaper Style)? Want To Impress Your Boss Or Win An Impor
Jul 6, 2005
Does anyone know how to emulate the International Herald Tribune and their text layout? I just love how its in three columns and in seperate pagespage switching is so quick. The best thing is EVERYTHING is dynamic. Including page width and height, # of pages, font size.
I've tried to google it, but all I get is code to develop three column LAYOUTS. Agh! Downloading the site doesn't work for me either, the text screws up and overlaps each other.

I have a php script that dynamically creates images, reusing image files on
the server to save space and clutter.
The problem is described in the steps below:
1. User clicks on a button.
2. Same page loads, but the php script creates a new image in an old file.
3. It displays the image file, but the old image shows, even though the file
contains the new image.
My options are:
1. Use javascript to force a reload when the user clicks the button (not
desirable, because the user is forced to confirm the reload by the browser).
2. Put a cheesy blurb on the page telling the user to reload or refresh
(along with ideotic explanations of how to do it).
3. Some really great way someone here is going to describe to me (my
preference).

I have three columns from the css on my webpage, I have some text that is overflow:hidden in the first column and two empty columns next to it. My question is how could I use jQuery to make the text overflow onto the next columns rather than hidden in the first column.

I am using the tablesorter plugin and am experiencing the following problem:
Under several scenarios the up/down arrow icons will overlap with the text in a column's header. This occurs if the browser is resized so the table width is too narrow (e.g. plugin should force a min-width perhaps?).
More importantly, this will also occur when the text in a columns header is shorter than any of the values in the column the up/down icons overlap with the text in the column header.
I've attempted setting padding on the header columns but no success (probably because the up/down icons are set as background images and therefore have no impact on padding)
At the moment the plugin won't be usable for me since the arrorws overlap with the text in several columns.

I am looking for the javascript equivalent of:
style="text-decoration:underline;" in a span tag created dynamically.
I was thinking it was:
mySPAN.style.text-decoration="underline";
but that should fail because "text-decoration" is not going to be
recognized.

I am trying to set up on a site I am working on so that the text color (preferably the CSS style) changes when I mouseover on an image elsewhere on the page. I know all about changing the current item or placing the image and text in the same div and controlling that, but I cannot place them in the same div.

I am using the ACRONYM tag to provide an explanation of codes within my
application. Example:
<p>The circuit <acronym title="Circuit P123T: Picton SS to Telebary
SS 345KV">P123T</acronym> is out
of service from 13:00 to 15:00 today</p>.
I would prefer a fancy balloon tip, but this allows me to store and retrieve
the text directly in a database table, and avoid having to add any
additional setup text to create any invisible balloon text. (Unless there is
another way).
I would like to change the style of the alternate text that appears, such as
increasing its font size and background color. Is there a way to do this as
CSS or in JavaScript ?

I have many divs with spans inside(just like it is below-no extra ids,classes for spans:
[...]
<div>
<span style="color:red;">a</span>
<span style="color:blue;">b</span>
<span style="color:white;">c</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="color:red;">d</span>
<span style="color:blue;">a</span>
<span style="color:white;">a</span>
</div>
[...]
What I would like to achieve: user selects with mouse "ab", click button(input type=button) which remove style from selected span/spans. Similar behavior like it is in TinyMCE.

My understanding had been that $.css("width") would return the original user selected style, eg "100%" or "10em", and $.width() returned the computed width, always in "px". Not so, following the code through for .css(), it calls something called getComputedStyle and the only difference between the two functions turns out to be a post-fix of "px" on the .css() result - not very useful. I need to know whether my user has called me with a proportional dimension, or a fixed one. How to tell with jQuery?

This is probably quite a simple problem but I can't figure out the answer. I'm working on a site that has news stories and events coming in. What I would like is to have the news stories to be styled with squares and events with discs for instance. I might be able to change the actual plug-in so the CSS affects this change, but I just wondered how I could change the list-style-type with jQuery.

Specifically, assume I have a div tag of absolute dimensions. I need
to figure out, first, whether or not the text inside the div tag is
partially hidden by the overflow setting, and if so, what the hidden
text is.
Is this even possible? Obviously, the rendering engine in the browser
"knows" this information, but is it accessible through Javascript?

I have created a table to organize data, and upon clicking a row, the user is taken to that data to manage related information to that data. Everything works fine, but something came up where I would like to give them the ability to delete items from that listing. I would like to add an additional column for each row, that will store an image, when clicked on, deletes that item in the database.
My question is: how do you cancel an action based upon a column that is clicked? I'm sure there is, and I don't mind adding a class to the image column for detection... I am unsure how to look further into the DOM event to see what particular td was clicked, if I could, I could then use $(this.attr("class"); to look to check if that specific column was clicked, and to cancel the action accordingly.

I'm having a spot of bother hiding table columns in IE.
With FF, setting the column cell's style.display to none (or changing
the cell's class name to style that has display: none) completely
removes the cells from the table.
In IE, the cell contents go, but the space they occupied is still there,
so the table has an empty column, the same result as setting visibility
= invisible.
