Playing Certain Audio Files - Or Possibly PHP

Jun 10, 2010

I want to use HTML5's audio coding similar to the one below:

In order to play sound files depending on the input. What I'm working on is a text-to-speech webapplication.

What I'd need to happen is for there to be an input and then allow the user to type anything into the input, so if they type in:

Hello, how are you doing?

Javascript or PHP will recognize each character and translate it into an audio sequence.

In example:

It'd detect the "H" in hello and play sound file "H.ogg"

It'd then detect the "E" in hello and play sound file "E.ogg"

Playing Random Video - Not Just Audio

Aug 3, 2011

I managed to construct a script to play random sound files to make listening tests for students. The audio files were actually taken from video files and I would now like students to be able to see the video too. I have the code below which works fine for my (and the students') needs, except that only the audio is played and not the video (and the mov files definitely do contain video). Can anyone suggest how I might change the code so that the video is shown too, either on the same page, or in a pop-up window? I would have thought it would be a matter of changing the window.doSound lines, but if so I can't figure out how.

Code:

Playing An Audio File Without Spawning A New Window ...

Jul 23, 2005

I want to play an audio file embedded on my page by clicking on
an audio image and the page change to a new page. Is there a
cross-browser Javascript way to do this? Right now the code I have
is ...

<html>
<head>
<title>Dictionary: homeostasis</title>
<link href="liveink.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet"/>
</head>
<body>
<div class="dictionary-area">
<span class="dictionary-word">homeostasis</span>
(<span class="dictionary-pos">Noun</span>)
<br/>
<div class="dictionary-defn">The maintenance of a constant internal
state in a changing environment that is maintained by continually
making adjustments to the internal and external environment.</div>
<a href="homeostasis.mp3" target="new"><img src="audio.gif"
border="0"></a>
<div class="dictionary-close-window"><a
href="javascript:window.close()">Close Window</a></div>
</div>
</body>
</html>

The inconvenience is right now a new window is spawned to play the
audio., which contains the controller for playing the audio (complete
with pause, stop, and play buttons). All my audio clips are less than
3 seconds in length.. How can I play the audio file without launching
the controller? I don't care if there's no way to stop/pause the audio
once it's started.

How can I stop the event after going to another div? Lots of efforts "out there" but I've yet to find out just how to do it successfully.

Browsing For Files From A Browser?

Jan 20, 2010

I have a tabular html form where users can enter a number of titles and file specifications in columns. Having the users actually ENTER the full filespec (path AND filename) has proven problematic so I'd like to give them a way to browse around the local system on which the browser is running, and select the file. When done, they hit Submit and the filespec get sent to php along with everything else on the form.....

So far I've gotten lots of "you can't do that" (I stupidly thought the input type="file" would actually work), and found a few javascript samples that MIGHT do it if I could get any of them to work. I CAN'T be the first person ever to need a way for users to do this to upload or email files or whatever. I"m sure I'm missing something important, but I'm astonished there isn't a reasonable way to do this in html.

First, CAN THIS be done in javascript - Display the form. Show any previously entered values in the fields. Let the user change existing filespecs, enter new filespecs, or browse the system to select filespecs. Put whatever they select in the field. When they hit submit send the filespec (the WHOLE filespec) along with the other data back to php for storage?

If so, does anyone have a pointer to a good, simple, idiot-proof example? Unfortunately, at this time I know VERY little about javascript, so I need something that can be understood and quickly implemented...

AJAX :: Cross-browsing Request Work Around - Every Browser Doesn't Work ?

Jun 14, 2010

The "Permission denied" cross site issue.

I have to check from my external domain if a service is running on localhost:8080 of a local machine.

I'm using XMLHttpRequest to do it.

I'm checking a local-web-server, not a file.

Every browser doesn't work, but Firefox. So I'm looking for a work-aorund.

An iframe? a flash swf? an applet java? HTA applications?

A side question is, why does FF work? Because it's a local-web-server?

JQuery :: When Click On The Gallery Thumb It Should Open The First Photo In Fancybox And Browsing Through The Gallery Should By Peanuts?

May 2, 2011

I've found a post regarding this issue but it's a little bit different this time.So I've created a .php script which creates some galleries where users can click them and browse their respective photos. It works like a charm in Chrome and FireFox, but IE doesn't like it.With this code:

script
type
="application/javascript"

[code]...

When I click on the gallery thumb it should open the first photo in fancybox and browsing through the gallery should by peanuts. And it is, but with IE just opens the .jpg in a blank page without fancybox. The strange thing is I've used the same script approach in another website and the fancybox works just fine with IE too. So why doesn't in this case?

IE7 Image Switcher And Audio

Aug 20, 2007

PROBLEM 1:

I spent a lot of time finding code that would play an audio (.wav) file on a
mouseover cue that would work in Internet Explorer 6 and FireFox without any
user prompt to allow active-x scripts to be run etc, but unfortunately the
code does not work in Internet Explorer 7. Can you suggest an alternative?

PROBLEM 2:

When using a image switching code to swap an image to a .gif anim that plays
just once (created using Ulead Gif Animator 5), Internet Explorer 6 and
FireFox begin the animation cycle only when the image has been switched.
Unfortunately, Internet Explorer 7 seems to play the animation as soon as it
has been loaded so when it’s switched you only see the last frame. Can you
suggest an alternative? Code:

How To Get Visitor's Country

May 30, 2011

First off, I'm working with tumblr.com which allows Javascript, but not PHP embedded in the HTML pages. It strips them out. I want to be able to get the country code (us, ca, uk, etc.) when a visitor visits my webpage so I can provide links for their locale. I'm having a very hard time finding correct information with examples to get this working. There was some .js libraries out there, but they don't work properly and say I'm in CA when I'm in US, like the jsapi from Google. Is there a way to execute a .php script which would output the country code of the visitor and be able to read/capture this result within the Javascript?
