Ajax :: Jquery - Add An Animated "Loading" Gif To Display In The Div While It Is Waiting To Display The Content?
Apr 8, 2011
I have an onclick that triggers ajax which calls a php script to pull data from MySQL. This information is then displayed in a div. The problem I am having is that sometimes pulling the data from MySQL takes 2-3 seconds, so the div is empty for about 2-3 seconds. How would I go about adding an animated "Loading" gif to display in the div while it is waiting to display the content?

I'm building some forms, and when they are submitted, I'd like to integrate a method that will fade out the screen a bit, and show an animated "processing" .gif. Basically when the "submit" button is pressed, the form is being submitted to it's destination. The page will hang on the form until the next page is ready to load. While it's hanging there after submitting, I'd like the screen to fade out, and display an image in the center of the screen. I'm hoping this can be achieved with CSS, as I try to use as little Javascript as possible.What's the best way to achieve this? I figure if anything a javascript "onsubmit" function will be a good start. Can the screen be faded with CSS?

Im trying to add some simple display features to a web application and am running into some unexpected IE8 behavior. Basically, the app runs some database retrieval from the server using Ajax techniques, and during that time (say, 30 seconds), I want to just give the user a clue as to whats going on. It could be as simple as a wait cursor. More interesting, I prefer to unhide a div with an animated loading icon, then hide it again when loading is complete.

I have a webpage which handle a time-consuming backend processing on the server side. I am hoping to use ajax and display the back-end processing process on the web-front(i.e. in a DIV). .ajaxStart and .ajaxStop sound to be OK if I want to display some fixed content. Is it possible that I grab partial server-side resultset and update a DIV at the front-end without having to wait for the server-side to finish all of the processing.
Below is my sample code which does NOT work for my purpose.
----
<span id="processing_status" class="blink"></span>
<div id="processing_log" style="display:none"></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
/* This is OK, but I want to display server-side processing records */

Here is a snippet of code that I have. First off the recursion doesn't appear to be working as it only ever calls the addThumb function once and it should be called it more often as it never gets to the point of popping up the alert box "Loading". addThumbNails in this case is being called first which then calls addThumb. I have tried a preloading function for images with the same issues. The result of the current code can be seen here.
http:[url]....The thumbnails should load below a main image. The main image also isn't loading for the same reason at this point. Hit reload and the page reloads correctly.
Code:
/***************************************
Adds the thumbnails to the scrollBar
!!!Need to randomize the order.[code]......

I have a script that takes longer to load than the page, so I would like to have it say "Loading - please wait!" until the script has loaded. I don't want it to hide the entire page - just this one script.Up until recently, I had no idea as to what ajax was, or what it did, so I surely am unable to do this.

I'm working on my personal website, and I got everything up and going mostly. I have a menu going down the left of the web page (Home, About Me, Recent Programs, etc). On the right, I have the main content area with a div named 'content'. It's a pain in the butt when I modify my menu because I have to go to each page and C/P.
I just learned about AJAX, and was wondering how to dynamically refresh my 'content' div with specific information. Currently while in Dreamweaver, it dynamically displays correctly. When I preview in Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer, nothing happens
I've spent about a day trying to figure it out on my own, and nothing has changed. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've tried different variations and different approaches as mentioned by websites. Bottom line I guess is:

I use tabs, loading content by ajax. When I click on a tab, on first load, any access to objects like:
$("#my_input_text").val('my value')
Works fine, but if a click on another tab, and click again to theprevioustab, the same code don't update the input text.I think that is because the document has 2 inputs with the same id after second refresh.
To prove this, I did, on javascript console of firebug:
document.getElementById('my_input_text').id = "bad_my_input_text";
and$("#my_input_text").val('my value')
works again. Exist some way, when click on a new tab, before load a content, clean all data from previous tab?

$("#myPic").click(function() {
$("#myDiv").html("//new content for div goes here
However, for some of these new sections, the html is QUITE lengthy. can i store it on a separate file in the same directory and somehow import it?? Is there a better way?

I have divs that contain html text. What I need is when I move mouse over that div link is displayed to edit content.
I have such code:
$J('div.editable_content').mouseover(function(event) {
$J(event.target).css("border", "1px solid black");
$J('div.content_edit', event.target).show();
return true;
}).mouseout(function(event) {
$J(event.target).css("border", "0px");
setTimeout(function(){
$J('div.content_edit', event.target).hide();
}, 2000);
return true;
});
But the problem is that if I move mouse on content that is inside this div (for example image) than mouseout event is triggered. One solution would be adding this event to all elements inside that div. What selector should I use to select all elements inside div ("div.editable_content *" and "div.editable_content > *" does not seem to work for this problem)? Any better solutions how to do this without attaching events to all elements?

i have managed to make things work how i wanted quite quickly but to be honest jQuery is so easy that i'm not sure i completely understood what i was doing .. but it's working anyways ... well almost ...I have an empty div into which i load HTML content from another page. When i click a link on the page, the content from the other page should load and then the div should change background color and then be displayed with a fade animation. When i click on another link, the displayed content should fade out and the new content fade in.Everything works more or less only that when i switch from one loaded content to another, i can briefly see the old content before the new one is displayed, so the DIV fades out, then fades in again with the old content loaded and then only the new content switches in.I think probably i have my code wrong, could someone have a look ?
$(document).ready(function() {
var href = $('.bodytext a').each(function(){
var href = $(this).attr('href');
[code]....

I want to display a loading text in a div the same size as an image (I know the size beforehand).
While the image is still loading, it should display the text "loading". When the image is done loading, the image should simply be displayed instead.
Any idea on how to do this or where I can learn more?

I have a small application that tries to launch a slide show for a set of pictures (jpg). It is implemented by a timed ajax routine to get the next picture filename and updating the image src field to show the next picture. The problem is that the actual down load varies significantly in time, based mostly on a clients access speed and the resolution size of the picture. Since all this happens asynchronously, the delay time routine gets invoked and is exhausted before the download is completed in many cases. Is there any way to start the new src coming and then detecting/waiting when it is complete?

I've recently implemented this really cool jQuery preloader called queryLoader [URL]. When a visitor comes to my site they are fed all the important images for the entire site (it's a very small site). During that time queryLoader [URL] shows a percentage loading animation, and once all the images are loaded it wipes the screen & displays the website.
I've placed another custom animation in the "page loading" div, and i want to make sure it loads first so that it is displayed while the rest of the images get downloaded. I've tried pre-loading with javascript as the very first script in my header, before jQuery or queryLoader get loaded, like this:
<script type="text/javascript">
pic1= new Image(250,300);
pic1.src="images/page_loading.gif";
</script>
[Code]....
However, this doesn't seem to be that effective. When i clear browser cache and reload the page, the page_loading.gif sometimes doesn't appear until the site is almost completely loaded. Is there a more effective way to assure the page_loading.gif gets loaded before any other images?
My site is [URL]

What I want to do basically is to replicate functionaly from jquery forum. While browising forum list you may notice that small menu popup on right side. I want to do something similiar on my forums, and siplay some small menu for each thread and post. Now what I need is way to do it in table cell.
$(document).ready(function () {
$(function () {
$('.thread-name').mouseenter(function () {
$('.thread-row-actions').show()
[Code].....
I come up with this. But is cealry not working, as it display all menus for every cell, which is not what I want.

I have a problem since three days about google map. I want to use jQuery to dynamically load the map in a page. Here is the code: In left side page, a script that loads the page into the right one:
<script
type="text/javascript">
$(
document
).ready(
function(){
$(
"a"
).each(
function(){
var
ajaxOptions = {};
In the right side page:
<?
php
$content
.=
'<script type="text/javascript">'
." ";
$content .= " ".
'function initialize() {'
When I call the right page without ajax (by its url), I get the map entirely displayed. Nevertheless, when using the jquery load method in order to load dynamically the right page, for the first time, the card was well displayed. But later, by clicking the same link, I get a problem: The card is displayed only one-third. I thought it was the cache that was originally because when I empty the browser and I reconnected, everything goes well. Then in jQuery, I changed the load method by adding the option cache: false.

I am pretty sure this is a javascript function. I want it where when a person chooses an option in a select box, it displays content. Here is the page it'd be on. [URL]. Once they select something, in the black area in the middle bottom, it'd show a description of that class. How would I do something like this?
