How do I retrieve the currently selected option string in a select box instead of the value?
<select id="choices">
<option value="value">String</option>
</select>
Using
$("#choices").val();
returns the value if it's set. if there is no value set, jQuery returns the string instead. I want to retrieve the string while a value is set!
I have a lot of checkboxes/input's and when they are clicked/filled out I need to add that value to the <COMMETNS> section of the xml string, which is the hidden input's value. Is this close to the right way? Again the xml string is the hidden input #AGREEMENTS value
<input type="hidden" id="AGREEMENTS" name="AGREEMENTS" value="<AGREEMENTS><AGREEMENT><CODE>XNNonproStatus</CODE><VERSION>KV000001</VERSION><DATETIME><?php echo $SubmitDATETIME ?></DATETIME><COMMENT>'SECQualified' + ( $('[name=SECQualified]').val() ),'InvestmentAdvisor' + ( $('[name=Advisor]').val() ), 'Subscribing' + ( $('[name=Subscribing]').val() ), 'Billed' + ( $('[name=BName]').val() )</COMMENT></AGREEMENT><AGREEMENTS>" />
Should I make a click function for each checkbox?
I am looking for a function that will add spaces in a string in a certain manner:
tmpStr: 123456789123 (always 12 digits)
the desired outcome is: 123 456 78 91 23
Do anyone of you have a neat fuction for that? I found one question in this forum [URL]... but since I do have a different interval for my spaces I have not been able to make it work.
When trying to emulate php's nl2br() function in javascript, I ran into something quite disturbing.
Code:
cms.t.value = cms.t.value.replace(/
/gi, '<br />
');
Using this piece of code, I was really surprised that the newlines weren't preceded by <br />, but by <br>. I really don't understand why that would happen. Why can't I decide my own replacement string? .
I know that others have asked about adding a class to a navigation based on indow.location, but I couldn't quite fit my question within those bounds, so hopefully it's alright to ask here.RequirementAdd a class based on window locationComplexityThe current if/else method I have doesn't work correctly, because all subsequent URLs will have the initial word we're looking for,andI'd like to have the final else to be on nav id#3 - (because the url's there will all be varied and may change later so adding those specifically in the if/else seems redundant)So far I've probably explained nothing, so here's what the code looks like:
if (window.location.pathname.match(/(employees)/)) {
$('#nav1').addClass("selected");
}
[code]....
I want to get the cursor start and end position of a selected range in a text-field or text-area. i tried lot of functions in various forums. but when the last character of the selection is a new line character JavaScript ignore it in IE6. any one having idea ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have several checkboxes that on .click add their ID to an xml string. I am having trouble with it adding multiple ID's, currently if you have one checked and check another, it overwrites the previous. Here's what I have:
if ($(this).is(':checked')) {
services += '<SERVICE><SERVICECD>' + this.id + '</SERVICECD></SERVICE>';
}
How do I make this work with multiple ID's so it adds/removes each one based on click, not overwriting? I need to be able to have multiple ID's added to the string.
I am building a string inside a variable prior to printing it on screen as follows :
myclock += hours+':'+minutes; where "hours" and "minutes" are variables initialised elsewhere. How can I add a carriage return or new line character to the end of this line, so that anything else cocatenated to this variable is displayed on the next line.
I wanted to show text box when check box is selected , it doesnt work...
<!DOCTYPE html>

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
<title></title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script>

I'm trying to 'wrap tags' around text in a text box.
<script language=javascript>
function insertFauxTags(fauxTag, e, endFauxTag)
{
var e = document.frmAddNewForum.txtTopicMessage.selected;
document.frmAddNewForum.txtTopicMessage.Value += fauxTag + e + endFauxTag;
}
</script>
And my form:
<form runat="server" id="frmAddNewForum">
<asp:textbox id="txtTopicMessage" runat="server" cssclass="formtext" rows="5" textmode="MultiLine" width="95%" style="width:95%"></asp:textbox>
</form>
And here's how I'm calling the function:
<a href="javascript:insertFauxTags('[p]' + e + '[/p]')"><img src="http://www.<%=strSiteName%>/images/parabutton.gif" border="0" alt="Paragraph" /></a>
When I run this in FF I get 'e' is not defined - any ideas?
I am creating a small CMS module for a client. I created a little form and when they click Submit, it goes straight out into an include (.inc) file, which is connected to the web page to be displayed.
The trouble I am having is that I'd like to create an additional button that will insert some text (certain html tags to make their life easier, etc) - I got it to work, actually. The script executes and the text is inserted - but once the script runs and the page refreshes (or whatever it does), the text then disappears. The only way I can seem to get it to stay put is when I use "onmouseup" instead of "onclick" - which means that every time the user accidentally mouses over the thing, it inserts the text.
I have a basic HTML form with a button that submits the form via jQuery's $.post to a processor. That processor returns the identical form, including any errors below any of the elements e.g. input, textarea, etc. The response also has a new submit button to submit the form once more, however, because I'm retrieving a giant string with HTML elements and because jQuery already loaded, that new submit button doesn't do anything. How can I parse jQuery's response for that button and assign a handler so that when the button is pushed, it submits the form again?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to tell if the text in a text box has been selected forwards or backwards?If you select some text from left to right and then hold down shift and use the cursor keys the right end of the selection moves. If you select some text from right to left and then hold down shift and use the cursor keys the left end of the selection moves.Is there a way in Javascript to detect which way the text has been selected? I need to know if the "end" position is before the "start" position or after. Using ranges and selection objects seems to "normalise" the selection so that the start is before the end.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get this working correctly. I have several radio buttons and checkboxes. Based on them being checked I need to add that value to an input (which will be hidden) to be passed as a form parameter. The input they are added to is wrapped in xml tags. Currently it is simply overwriting each value, not adding them to the string. One value "IKNTK" needs to be passed regardless.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of adding a dynamic dropdown of cities that populates based on the county/state selected by the user.
I have managed to get it working but the problem I have is that when the user goes to edit their details this dropdown list does not:
1) Show the dynamically generated list of cities because the list uses the javascript onchange element i.e onChange="AjaxFunction(this.value);"
2)Have the city value that is stored in the database selected as default.
Here is the Ajax/Javascript used:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function AjaxFunction(cat_id)
{
var httpxml;
[Code].....
The first problem is to get the list to dynamically populate on page load and the second is to include the users selected city as "selected" in the options created by javascipt and ajax functions.
Is there any way to check if any text is selected with Javascript?
And then how would I add something around the selection?
like <some code> SELECTION </somecode>
I have a problem I couldn't get an answer to.
Lets say I have an HTML page that look like this code...
What I want to do with javascript is get the highlighted text tag. The tag can be every tag, not only <div>.
for some reason, after a couple of seconds the clicked on div acquires the "fade" class even though in theory it is still a "div-selected" and not a div:not(.div-selected)...what am I missing???
$(".content-item").click(

I have interesting question about javascript. I'm no expert but I do understand coding for few languages and html. Let me give an example:
Illinois="";
Alabama="";
besttest[1]="Illinois";
strOut+='
<select>
<option value=illinois' +Illinois+ '>Illinois</option>
<option value=illinois' +Alabama+ '>Alabama</option>
</select>';
Would it be possible to make besttest[1] arrays value an actual variable name and assign it string value "selected"? I have "for" loop that returns the selected state and I need to somehow pass that variable name (which has value "selected") to option tag. And that variable name is the actual value of array.
Is it possible to copy selected text from DIV, TABLE or eg. P to form's TEXTAREA? I'm searching solution working on possibly all browsers.
