Active Area On Links Changes In IE?

I have a menu with buttons that pop up when they are hovered over. If Firefox, the area above the button triggers it, and pushes the button up to where you can read the text for the button, and everything works fine. In IE, you have to get the mouse directly over the small part of the button that is visible before it will trigger the animation to bring the button up.
I am using jQuery to animate the buttons and a few other things on the site. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the jQuery, or the CSS, I would include a link, but the work is for a client that hasn't launched the site yet, and everything is still confidential.

I have a web page wich has several list like this one:
So several ul's list wich are inside severals divs of class <div class="languages_cont" >
I need to make active the first <a> of each one this ul's and it need to be done in Js (when i say active i mean the <a> text will become bolded, so right now i've been trying using a each but no luck yet, it only selects the first it encounters.

im clueless when it comes to javascript, but this is what im trying to find: i have a page that has multiple text areas, i also have 4 links that when clicked i want to add some predefined text into the active text area the one with the text cursor in?

I have some wordpress code which generates a menu with links to the pages created in the admin area.

The id of active is on the currently selected menu item. In the above code the home page. How can I get the subnav to show only if the main menu item which contains a subnav is active? The rest of the time I want the subnav hidden. I have found the effect I want on another site [URK]. If you select advanced treatments a sub menu appears. If you select say jobs then the subnav for advanced treatments disappears.

I'm having issues with jquery and the tabs I'm using. My tabs work but... I want some more functions and that seems to be a big problem for a Javascript and jquery newby.
My HTML:

I really don't know if this is correct but it works! What doesn't work is the active class. If you use one of the buttons in the first tab you go to the right tab but the tab itself has no class called active and that ruins the style.

I also have one other question: lets say that all the above is my second page and I have my frontpage in which I also have buttons. I want somebody to use the button and end up in the third tab of page 2. My link is something like

I read that using this should lead you the third tab but it's not working for me. You go to the first tab of page 2 instead.
I've been reading a LOT! Jquery for dummies, I googled, read the forum and other forums. I posted on a Dutch forum but no answer. I've added a lot of different code but it doesn't work.

I think this is just a dumb question, I'm missing some basic logic here about jquery "grammar".
I'm trying to do an image swap on hover that checks to be sure the thumbnail is not the active thumbnail. So mouseover, it swaps. Mouseout, swaps back, unless the thumb has been clicked.
Here's a snippet of the code that doesn't work:
How do I check that _li is not ".active" and replace the src if it isn't?

1. When I have the "<textarea>" code lines in it put a text-area on the page, but it puts all of the code following that first text-area line into the text-area box and doesn't execute that segment of code.
2. When there is no "<textarea>" (for the sake of seeing if the rest of it worked) it doesn't check the survey.

My menu navigation(Home, Hosting Solution, etc..)
1. The submenu links need to be centered in the middle of the div instead of aligned to the left.
2. Can the submenu links have a rounded box appear under them, instead of being underlined links. Like these at the top: [url]
3: The top tab needs to stay gray/active/on when the mouse is moved down to the submenu or when it is the active button.

I'm using jquery/ajax to create some links with window.open method. Here's the relevant code:

Basically, when you click a link a function is called with a parameter based on the particular link you run. Then the code runs through an xml file, and if the parent of the nodes I've cyling through has a value equal to the parameter past to the function, that node is used to create a new link with window.open function attached to it.It all works, or seems to, and when I alert what is being built, it looks right to me, yet the links don't work.I've attached a copy of one of the alerts of one of the links as it's built.

I want this .click target to be the link: $('a').click(function(e){
Instead, the target returned is the image [HTMLImageElement].
I have tried using closest()and currentTarget:
But they all still return the image, not the link.

I have the following which works in a jsp page

this prints out a string that i return from my activeX dll library .
now I add the following to the jsp and i now get a message which is a jsp
error object doesnt support this property or method..
my jsp has the following

i have a list of thumbnails that are created dynamically from a database which have an transparency state when the thumbnail is in the active state (ie when someone clicks on it)I wondered is there anyway that the first one could be set to active by default when the page initially loads. [URL]...When you click the "More" tab, the browser forgets the active tab styling and current tab contents; I don't want these to change - all I want to change on the click "More" tab action is the navigation tab. But my browser should maintain the styling for the last active tab and continue to display its corresponding tab contents. Yet it forgets these details when the user clicks "More".
In particular, when user navigates back and forth between the two tab sets, whatever was the last styled active tab remains styled as such. Browser should remember this.

How do i close a specific window. (not the active one) with javascript. the reason im asking is because i have a form submitting to another page AKA TARGET_BLANK. but i have it target blank because that page checks if the stuff from the form can be inserted into the database.
BUT IF IT CANT, i give them a close(the active page) link and it closes the second page(that says oh u didnt fill in a title THE ERROR blah blah blah) so that the user can fix the first page(the page didnt reload itself or close so the information can stay and not be lost(form inputs, textarea texts etcc)
But what if the user submits a correct form and it says so on the 2nd page. and then close that page right AND THEN... theres the first page there left un touched. how can i get page 2 to close page one. with javascript.
