Iframe Resizing On Opera

Jul 23, 2005

the problem is, i have this javascript code in my aspx page that i want
it to work on almost all browsers, especially opera and safari :

function resize(){
displayFrm = document.getElementById("ifrmDisplay");

innerDoc = (displayFrame.contentDocument) ?displayFrm.contentDocument :
displayFrm.contentWindow.document;

objToResize = (displayFrm.style) ? displayFrm.style : displayFrm;

objToResize.height = innerDoc.body.scrollHeight;
}

the code above gets called every time a new page is loaded inside the
iframe (ifrmDisplay) what its doing is resizing the iframe so it can
have the same size as the page inside it, so i can eliminate the need
for vertical scroller for the iframe, i assumed that it works on opera
and IE at the same time, when i tried it out, it worked on IE but not on
opera. after lot of time in researching how i can get workaround this
issue with opera, that is the best possible solution i have and yet it
doesnt work. so i gave up and asking you if you can help me out here ,
coz this is jst driving me crazy!

the problem is im not a javascript expert, to be honest i jst started
doing javascripts about two days ago, that is why im in need for help

by the way, here is inner html for the iframe if its any use

<iframe id="ifrmDisplay" style="Z-INDEX: 99; LEFT: 187px; WIDTH: 567px;
POSITION: absolute; TOP: 136px; HEIGHT: 408px" src="" scrolling="no"

Cross-domain Iframe Communication In Opera?

Feb 11, 2010

I have need to communicate between two iframes of the same domain, which live inside a parent page on a different domain that I have no control over. This is a Facebook app and the basic layout is this

apps.facebook.com/myapp
L iframe1 (src='mysite.com/foo')
L iframe2 (src='mysite.com/bar')

I need frame1 to talk to frame2, but in Opera I can't access window.parent. frames['frame2'] to do the usual cross-domain methods (updating location.hash for example) Is there an alternate way to accomplish this in Opera?

Document.write Into Iframe Changes Charset Of Contained Form To UTF

Jun 2, 2004

I have a window (it's a modal dialog as well, but let's ignore that for now), where I need to write data into an iframe. Dynamically generated data. This data contains a form, this form is then sent to a server process, which expects it to be latin1 (iso-8859-1). It arrives as UTF-8. I have set the charset both in the container html (which contains the iframes) and the iframe in question to latin1, I once toyed with accept-charset of the form as well, all was ignored. So I started to recreate the experiment step by step.

HTML, meta tag text/html charset=iso-8859-1, FORM directly in it --> data is sent as latin1 Next I put the HTML for the form into its own HTML, put an iframe into the first documented and had its src point to the new HTML. Both the new and the old HTML had charset meta tags. Form was loaded into iframe, sent properly as latin1.

I removed both metatags, we're still sending as latin1. Next I thought it might have something to do with the dynamic nature of the iframe filling. I only assigned the iframe's src at runtime. Still, latin1.

Then I took the final step, and instead of reading an html into the src of the iframe, I wrote the code into the iframe with document.write. Everything LOOKED the same, but the server now receives the form data as UTF-8.

For this experiment I am using IE 5.5 (it is our compatibility base, another browser is not an option unfortunately - I'm a straight firefox man at home), and yes, the content has to be written into the iframe dynamically. I cannot create a temp file that I would load into it, or I would much rather not (it's a rather complex performance issue)

To clarify: Soon as I'm using document.write, all meta tags and or accept-charset (or what it was called) for the form are ignored completely.

Ajax :: Write String To IFrame As XML Without Server-Side Scripting

May 13, 2011

I am trying to write a string variable containing XML in the form of text into an iframe such that it shows up as formatted XML with the expand(+) and collapse (-) options that default in IE when opening an XML file.

The first thing I tried is writing the string to a file with .xml extension and setting the iFrame src to that file. This works well normally, however in this case, the file does not get created where I want to due to some security restrictions in IE which I cannot edit as I dont have admin rights.

Secondly I tried appending the string as innerHTML to that iframe but only the content within the XML tags without any formatting shows up which is not intended.

Thirdly I cannot use any server side scripting as this is a very controlled environment and I am not allowed to host servers or edit server scripts at will. This is totally out of question, so I guess Ajax or calling a costom defined web service wont help.

At best I can say, I am limited to HTML, Javascript and vbScript.

I am receiving the string as a responseText from an ajax request which is consuming a web service. If I use responseXML, it doesn't work.

The solution I am looking at is to either display it as formatted XML in an iFrame or to just throw it into a textarea which I am already doing and simultaneously write it to an XML file or do both. If not automatically, atleast have the user press a button and do it.

Script With Document.write Inside Iframe Hangs First Time, Works Second Time (in IE)?

Dec 22, 2010

I have put together a script which does this:

1. Make ajax request (via getHTTPObject(), no libraries is used)

2. Create an iframe with script, src is "blank.html".

3. use iframe.document.write() to execute scripts (inkluding document.write based scripts) in the iframe.

4. call parent window's document to clone the iframe content.

5. Append the content clone to parent body.

Works like a charm in all browsers but IE, where every version - including IE9 beta - hangs on iframeWindow.document.close() with empty cache, leaving the window/tab unresponsible. When I force quit, restart and load the page again (now in cache) it works.What I've tried already:

* Googled.

* called the ajax request callback manually with string instead of request.responseText - it works even with empty cache here.Removed document.close() - resulting in scripts in iframe not executing at all (again, only with empty cache, cached pages works fine).

* Tested to make the ajax request synchronous - no difference.

Console.log trace:

Code:
append() begin
unlimited-scroll.js:160 install() begin
unlimited-scroll.js:194 iframe begin[code].....

JQuery :: Use Document.write Statement To Write Html Tables On Client Side

Jul 27, 2010

I am totally new to jQuery and no good knowledge on javascript. However, I was assigned a task, to convert a javascript program to jQuery due to compatibility problem on browsers like Chrome and Safari. My program originally use javascript xmlDoc.load('....') to read XML file, and then use document.write statement to write html tables on client side. Something like this (the sample below may got lots of syntax problem as I jut want to show the major part):

Code:
document.write('<TABLE >');
var y=x[0].getElementsByTagName('NoOfRows');
for (i=0; i<=noofrows-1 && i<=y.length-1; i++){
document.write(' <TD>');
document.write(z[j].getElementsByTagName('RecordDetails')[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue;
}

Now I changed to use jQuery, I can read the XML file elements. However, when I try to write the table, it failed:

month = day.getMonth()+1;
year = day.getYear();
newdate= month + '/' + day + '/' + year;

Making Document.write Write Into A Specific Location ?

Mar 24, 2011

I have a client that has ads on her website that really slow down the site. These ads are called by an off site javascript file and I want to use a jQuery(document).ready or similar method to call these files after all of the site content has loaded. But these files contain document.write functions to add more javascript files. Since I want to load the files after everything else has loaded, this in turn makes the page blank and then loads the ad. Is there a way to position where document.write will write to?

Using Document.write To Write A Variable

Mar 6, 2004

I'm pretty new to JavaScript and am having a problem. I thought what I am doing should work but it isn't.

Basically I have a form that people can put a quantity into. e.g. A, B, C.

I have a JavaScript function called comput that assigns values e.g. A = 5, B = 7, C = 9. Here is the start of the script:

<script language="JavaScript"><!--
function compute(form){
var A = form.A.value * 5;
var B = form.B.value * 7;
var C = form.C.value * 9;

I then declare a variable to add them up:

var ans = A+B+C;

return;
}

</script>

This part of the script works fine. Now I want to write the ans variable. So I use:

<script>
<!--
document.write ("Your total is "+ans+"")
// --></script>

But it isn't working. Any ideas?

Document.write Inside A Document.write?

May 17, 2010

I'm working on a website that will basically embed a widget/frame sent by a handler into a user's current page. The user basically adds a script tag to where they would like the HTML to be. The script tag has their settings and is basically a document.write that calls all the code that we want displayed.So here's my problem. We have a map that we need to add in a specific section, and to get the map we have to call another script tag. So we end up having a script tag (map) embedded in another script tag (the code for the widget/frame) or we end up having to document.write inside a document.write.

Now this works just fine and as expected in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. However, Internet Explorer and Opera wait until the first document.write is completely finished before calling the embedded one. Of course the problem with this, is that it takes the map out of the document's flow and just appends it to the bottom left of the page. Since the rest of the page has already been called, there's no way to move the interior "map" script.Any ideas? Basically just trying to figure out how (if even possible) to render an embedded script tag in Internet Explorer and be able to place it properly. I've tried everything that I can think of, including AJAX and Google's unescape script.

Problems With Opera

Jul 23, 2005

<script language="JavaScript1.2" style="text/javascript">
<!--
function checkLocation() {
if (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Opera")!=-1) type="OP"
else if (document.all) type="IE" // ie 4 & up
else type="XX"
if (type=="IE")
moveNav.style.pixelTop=document.documentElement.sc rollTop
setTimeout("checkLocation()",5);
}
//-->
</script>

This is suppose to keep the Nav bar at the top of an IE browser. (Yes, it
wobbles a little bit, but what can I do?)

With most other browsers, the Nav Bar stays nice and stationary at the top,
thanks to a nice CSS solution. However, with Opera (at least Opera 7.54 that
I have) the nav bar wobbles a bit like I would expect it to in IE, but still
it gets hidden under most scrolling situations. What's the cure for Opera?

Debugging In Opera

Jun 28, 2006

I really want to make my scripts work in Opera. I really, really do.
But it seems like an uphill struggle. First of all, I can't get ANY
kind of debug output. No error messages in the "javascript console" -
but then, I have never seen ANYTHING in Opera's javascript console. Is
there some kind of voodoo I need to perform in order to make that work?

Then, when Opera doesn't like something about a script (even if it works
fine in Spidermonkey), it will sometimes refuse to load it entirely,
which means I can't even do alert() based debugging. What the hell?

Can anyone give me some insight as to how they go about making their
scripts run properly in Opera? I make a point of sticking to ECMAScript
standards (and then making per-browser exceptions where needed *COUGH
IE*), but Opera just doesn't want to cooperate.

This is in Opera 8, by the way. I haven't upgraded yet, since I don't
use it, and I think more people still use 8 than 9 so that's what I want
to target.

Opera 7.11 Reloads *.js

file. This has got to be something that I am doing wrong, but I can't

SetAttribute() In Opera 7.54 Win

Mar 27, 2005

I'm in the process of migrating a script to use DOM core methods but I've hit a roadblock in the aforementioned browser. The following code snippet illustrates what I'm basically trying to do, it really is incredibly basic!

var newimg = document.createElement('img');
newimg.setAttribute('id', 'placeholder');
newimg.setAttribute('src', 'images/large/courtyard.jpg');

I'm then positioning the element on the page using appendChild(). Everything works perfectly on Firefox 1, IE5+, Opera 8, Konqueror 3.3.1 (Linux) but not in Opera 7.54. I suspect the element is being created as associated styling on #placeholder is being applied (just some padding and borders) but the image itself is not being displayed. I assume therefore that the problems lies with setAttribute()?

This seems like the sort of problem that others would have encountered, but I haven't been able to find mention of it anywhere.

Js Works Only In Opera?

Jun 24, 2011

I have this code

[URL]

If you'll use Opera browser, it will display lightbox style animation after clicking on marker on the map. Other browsers are not so kind

Chrome give an error Uncaught TypeError: Object [URL] has no method 'click'

To display animation in bumpbox(lightbox alternative) I use this html code

Code:

<div id="neco" style="display: none">
<a href="clouds.swf" class="bump">clouds</a>
</div>

and this javascript

Code:

google.maps.event.addListener(markerName, 'click', function mojafunkcia() {
document.getElementById("neco").getElementsByTagName("a")[0].click();
})

I assume that html element cannot access that javascript function because it ist nested within other function (please see source code on turie.eu), but I'm not very skilled with javascript, so I'm not sure.
