Wanted: Workaround To Javascript:show(...); Instead Of OnClick ForNetscare 4
Jul 20, 2005
I was calling a function in a js file from an image onClick event, but
someone still using Netscape 4 (!) complained that it didn't work. I
read that img onClick doesn't work in Netscape 4, so swithced it to
"javascript:show(...);" and the code works, but I read in this group
that it was not wise to do that, here's the working version, using the
not recommended approach:
<a href="javascript:show('art_2.jpg',÷»',ò^');" target="_self">
I'd appreciate any suggetions that will let me call the "show" function
from an onClick image event that will work in most IE/Netscape 4+ browsers.

Need to run a script "last updated on" on a personal Website. Problem is the
ones I can find rely on my servers synchronised time! This is one hour
behind the correct time (Summertime) at my location. Anyone know of a script
that can be modified so that the correct local time is displayed?

we probably all know the problem that select boxes under IE are always
overlap DIV layers. Afaik there are two workarounds:
1. hiding the select box
2. IFrame beneath the DIV layer
But I don't know how to do that.
We want to show a DIV layer as tooltip.
The DIV layer has no defined size (neither a width nor a height
attribute). The size depends on the text the user defined for the tooltip.
My questions:
1. How can I know when the tooltip is 'over' a select box, so I can hide it.
2. How can I define an IFrame that has the same size as the tooltip,
when I don't know the tooltip's size?

I have an onchange method for a select box that goes something like
this (the select is in a form named aForm):
function page_on_change() {
pageElement = aForm.my_page_id;
aForm.nav_page_name.value =
pages[pageElement.options[ pageElement.selectedIndex ].value];
var si = pageElement.selectedIndex;
for ( i = 0 ; i < pages.size ; i++ ) {
document.getElementById("id_" + i).style.display='none'
}
document.getElementbyId("id_" + si).style.display='none'
}
IE fails on the statement:
document.getElementbyId("id_" + si).style.display='none'
and says it doesn't support this property.
What is the workaround?

use something like this to workaround the lack of a "Select All Friends" button for Facebook groups, events and pages?
<html>
<frameset cols="25%,75%">
<frame name=inviteall src="inviteall.html">
<frame name=main src="http://www.facebook.com">

This bit isn't mine, I found it. You normally have to use this by copying it and then pasting it into the address bar when you are on the "Select Friends" screen.

I'm currently constructing a javascript "terminal" on a site I'm building so that I can test objects and functions outside of the web developer terminal in google chrome.
Given that I have active javascript defining an object called item, typing item in the chrome terminal returns Object and goes on to list the properties of item.
Moreover, I can define a function in the terminal like this: function(x) { return x }, and then function(item) will return Object and list the properties. However, if I use form data and user input in the place of the argument, the datatype becomes a string and not an object, so typing item in the form and clicking a button that performs function(document.form.text.value) returns the string item and not Object.
Is there any way to convert this primitive string to an object so that I can then iterate through properties, and so on?

I have developed a widget. I am using the jquery core api. Im having a problem when the widget is used in a weebly site. I know weebly uses prototype and I am using the workaround:
var $j = jQuery.noConflict(); however there is still a clash of some sort. I think every prototype.js function is being called or something because the page is taking a long long time to load as there are many requests being made which look like this:

I was having trouble getting the object.focus() method in IE and in FF working, so came up with this workaround.
What I wanted to do was check if a textfield was numeric, if not, inform the user then select the text and set the focus back to the field.
Sound simple? object.focus() simply doesn't work in firefox or (I've been informed) IE.
Solution:
Instead of checking when the field losing focus (onblur), check when the next field receives focus (onfocus). Then call a function that gets the element index of the object, and use that index to check the element above it. Difficult to explain.
Here it is...for the textfield you want to check, put this into the next form object after it onfocus="checkNum(this)"
then put this script in the header section...
function checkNum(obj){
var idx;
//get object index
for(idx=0;idx<document.forms[0].elements.length;idx++){
if(document.forms[0].elements[idx].name==obj.name){
break;
};
};
//check for numeric
if (isNaN(document.forms[0].elements[idx-1].value)){
alert('Value must be a number!');
document.forms[0].elements[idx-1].select();
document.forms[0].elements[idx-1].focus();
};
};
But there is one problem!!! As I just found out.
If the next field is a group option, they all have the same name and so this will not work.
for those that do not know, the function isNaN is a js function that is the same as the vbscript equivalent IsNumeric.
isNaN means isNotaNumber.
Hope this helps, I know the focus() failure of JS has been the bane of many coders.

mailto protocol and Notes v6.5.5 which duplicates the address in the To: field (not a valid email address) and/or posts form data in the To:, cc, or Subject: field rather than in the body of the email where it belongs. I created an entire site relying on the mailto: protocol to submit requests. (Can't use either server side apps or cgi email. Don't ask - it's a long and rediculous story.) Anyway, then we got the new release of Notes and the whole thing has been rendered useless for request submissions.
Is it possible to write a script that will duplicate the mailto: form action and keep it client side? Big hurdle is that it has to pull info from all types of form elements, just like the mailto: protocol does with email clients that actually support it properly.

Alright, me having a very basic knowledge of js I'm looking for some help with(what I think should be) a simple hide/show of a set of divs. I've broken down the ccs/html I'm looking at on a test page here...
The js I have in the page had been what I tried to modify from a simple hide/show, but it's not doing what I want it to do (obviously). The goal is when you click on link 3, I want white3 to hide and all the other white divs to show, when you click on link 3, white 2 will hide and the other white divs will show, and so on. So basically it's revealing what div you click to. A lot of what I've found have been just toggles, but I'm not very confident in my ability to adjust code.

I want the hidden layer to open when the visitor clicks and stay open until they click the close x. I can get the hidden layer to show onMouseover, but not onclick.
Code:
<script type="text/javascript"> // Copyright 2006-2007 javascript-array.com var timeout= 500; var closetimer= 0; var ddmenuitem= 0; // open hidden layer function mopen(id) { // get new layer and show it ddmenuitem = document.getElementById(id);
[Code]....
I find script that does something similar and adapt it to do what I need it to do. Usually, I can work it out on my own - but I have been working on this for several days now.

I have a page where an alternate address area is kept hidden via JavaScript and CSS divs. If you click that you want to use an alternate billing address, two divs are expanded. One with the form fields for entering in your alternate address, the other area has further info about why we need that alternate address. (Code is below). This works PERFECTLY for my needs....however, if you reload the page, the "show" button remains selected and OFF=ON and ON=OFF if you get my meaning...so when you click the radio that should be hiding the divs, it shows them and vice versa. Additionally if there is an error in the form and the page reloads to display the error, only the billing address area stays expanded (its inside the <form> tags), the text area next to it goes back to being hidden, and the show/hide OnClick no longer works. Ideally, I'd like the two to maintain the same state (i.e. if both we're shown, both stay shown).
CODE (trimmed down of course):
Code:
<head>
<style type="text/css" media="all">
.invis { visibility: hidden; display: none; }
.vis { visibility: visible; display: inline; }
</style>
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
var c = 'invis';
var ids = new Array('id1', 'id2'); // IDs of your <div>s
function doSwap() {
c == 'vis' ? c = 'invis' : c = 'vis';
for (var i=0; i<ids.length; i++) {
document.getElementById(ids[i]).className = c;
}}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="id1" class="invis">This is all just plain text that appears when the NO radio is clicked but disappears on reload</div>
<form>
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="Radio" name=" " value="hide" onClick="doSwap()" id=""> YES
<input type="Radio" name=" " value="show" onClick="doSwap()" id=""> NO
</td>
</tr>
<tr id="id2" class="invis">
<td>extra address entry stuff that appears when the NO radio and that stays on page after reload</td>
</tr>
</table>

I have a php page that essentially builds a pay report in the form of a table. The php side builds the page properly, though it took some time to get the table rows onmouseover and onmouseout functions to work for row highlighting. Now the issue is the table row's onclick function.
Here is what the outputed html looks like.
<head><script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function HideShowDiv(divID){
if (document.getElementById(divID).style.display == "none"){
document.getElementById(divID).style.display = "block");
document.writeln("show "+divID);
}else{
document.getElementById(divID).style.display = "none";
document.writeln("hide "+divID);
}} .....
<tr>
<td colspan="2" align="right">Some Association of Baseball</td>
<td align="right">$24</td>
<td align="center"></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div> <!-- Closes the main body div container -->
In my javascript function, the writeln() calls are for testing to see if the even is even firing. but nothing gets written to the page. Basically I want the row with the users name to be clickable which will show the details in the hidden div associated with the user.

I am trying to create a Link that changes its currently displayed text and also toggles the css.display property from inline to hidden. I'm sure there are solution outs there btu I have not been able to find one that does both functions with one click properly and is also easy to implement for people not as familiar with html and javascript. Obviously I am trying to create a show more, show less type link. currently this often shared code works fine to change the current state of the target ID's css.display from none to inline. My end goal is to be able to not only toggle the display of the LONG1 div but to also change the innerhtml of 'short1' from "Show More" to "Show Less".I am still learning about JS so Im really rough around the edges. I tried some different techniques btu I dont ahev them posted on my work pc.

I have created a user form in which visitors can fill in sections, some of which are hidden or displayed using the onclick to trigger a DIV to display or hide then submit the results to a database using ASP. All works fine with that, however... I have created another page which retrieves the results for an individual's form submission, and I want to hide the sections that were not completed (hidden when submitted). How can I get my page to hide or show DIVs, depending on the value retrieved from a particular field within the database? i.e. if Question1Response="A", show Div ID="A Section" If Question1Response="B", show Div ID="B Section" etc.

I opted to use JavaScript & PHP (instead of Flash) to create a sort-of "t-shirt designer" -- basically, it's a gallery-type script that allows users to scroll through t-shirt styles, swap colors, and so on, prior to reaching the actual design tool. And I'm starting to regret.
It's actually working very well so far, except for one thing: I want the t-shirt option that the user selects to link the user to the design tool. The "gallery" already has an image for each possible option that displays whenever the user selects a combination, but I want to make that image is a clickable link.
I have no idea where to start -- I know next to nothing about javascript -- and to accomplish this in Flasjh I'd have to start this stupid basic thing all over again from scratch, and it would defeat the point of not using Flash in the first place, so
