Vaildating Mixed Numeric Text String
Jul 20, 2005
How would I go about validating multiple textfields within the same
form to ensure they start with either 1 or 2 numerical digits (from 8
to 14) followed by 2 or 3 text characters eg. 8MN and 14ABC being
acceptable?

I have this large string mixed in with PHP because the drop downs offer a query from the users already uploaded. Anyways, somewhere there is an error inside the string, probably because the single quotes cancel each other - but I can't seem to combine them to fix it. Let me know if you see anything, or have tips.

I converted the whole thing to php, and it looks better when looking at the source code, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone see anything wrong with the code here: Here's the php that produces the string:
Code:
<?php
echo 'var inner = '<colgroup><col span="1" width="250" /><col span="1" width="
200" /></colgroup><tr><td class="leftAlign">Letter of Recommendation</td><td>';
if(mysql_num_rows($f) != 0) {
echo '<select name="recommendation_archive">';
include "includes/objects/files_drpDwn.php";

I think this is a problem converting (what is assumed to be) a string to numeric. or something like that.
rvs = s[i][j] * k;
Firefox Error Console says:
Uncaught exception: TypeError: Cannot convert 's[0]' to object
rvs is just a (temporary, holding) variable.
s is a [3][6] array on numeric values.
i, j and k all happen to be zero.

I'm trying to add a text box to a form that has some other complications. My "mcomment" in the code below does work but will only accept numbers, and the whole idea was text.
Code:
function n_od(type) {
var f = document.forms.create_account;
$("#id_od").html("<img src='images/nr_loading1.gif' border=0>");
subcat3 = escape($("#subcat3").val());
if (type == 2)
$("#id_od").load("n_autos.php?step=115&w="+f.width.value+
"&fractionw="+$("#fractionw").val()+"&length_in="+f.length_in.value+
"&fractionl="+$("#fractionl").val()+"&mcomment="+f.mcomment.value+
"&mcat="+$("#mcat").val()+"&subcat="+$("#subcat").val()+"&subcat3="+subcat3);
else {
$("#id_od").load("n_autos.php?step=116&w="+f.width.value+"&fractionw="+
$("#fractionw").val()+"&length_in="+f.length_in.value+"&fractionl="+
$("#fractionl").val()+"&mcomment="+f.mcomment.value+"&mcat="+$("#mcat").val());
}
}

It seems that if I use jquery in https and do an ajax call out and then update the dom with the resulting html I get an HTTPS unsecure content warning. Now the content is all https and there are not http calls any where so I'm wondering if this has been seen before. I've dug very deep looking for the issus and if I take jquery out of the equation it doesn't give me an error. But I've standardized jquery as part of the site and don't want to mix straight old javascript with jquery, if I can avoid it.

I need the input value of a textbox to be mixed of static and varaible data, Example:
<script type="text/javascript">
As you can see I use the "." dots for the splitting of the string and I pre-insert them into the "Value" of the textbox, but is it possible to do this without them being deletable or even better, have it so that for every number added the script inserts a dot?

We are using the jquery droppable plugin on our portal. We have a situation when drag n drop brings in the IE 8 mixed content warning dialog. There is a AJAX load request which is fired when there is a drop. Does this plugin have support over SSL? Is there any way to fix this issue. I did use Fiddler, HTTPWatch Basic and also the FireFox Net tab and the AJAX requests are indeed https://.

I'm having trouble getting a text string into a variable:
HTML Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC '-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN' 'http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd'>
<html xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'>
<head>
[Code]...
I'm using the alert to confirm if I've managed to get the time ok from the html, it should when working display the static time but currently displays NaN which AFAIK means that javascript is getting something from the HTML but it's in a form that it can't work with.
I know that the HTML validates fine, the time display is output from PHP. The intention is that PHP will output the time, if javascript is available then the javascript will take the static time and turn it into a ticking clock.
I'll look into the main guts of the clock script at another time, right now I need to get the basics working. I need to do it something like this way as I don't want to have any javascript embeded in the HTML, I want to have the javascript in external files.

I have an application that navigates through the links in a document,
most of which are "javascript:doThisFunction(args)" type of links.
Using DOM navigation I can find the reference to the javascript
function and store it as a String variable, but is there a way to
execute the function? Currently the only way I know how to do it is
in a series of if/else statements as in:
if (link=="doThisFunction(args)")
doThisFunction(args);
else if (link=="doThatFunction(moreArgs)")
doThatFunction(moreArgs);
... etc.
is there a more elegant way to do this?

I have a web site which creates printed output which will be printed out on A4 with a standard template that I use. Fortunately each output will (should?) fit on one page so I don't need to worry about the content munging the template. Now so far the approach I have used is to spin through a loop writing the content into a new div which is shown as a preview and which I then print. So far so good.
Now I want to generalise the templates so I can change them more easily. So instead of $('#printableblock').html(somefunction());I want to load a template from a file. That file would look something like;
<div class="A4">
<div id="header" class="header">
<div id="headleft" class="headleft">Address data</div>
<div id="headmiddle" class="headmiddle"><img src="headimage.jpg"

How come when I display my output to a browser without the presence of the

I have tried:
var userName = prompt ("Please enter your name", " ");
if (userName == null || !isNaN(userName)) {
prompt ("Please enter a valid name, and do not include any numbers in this field");
userNamm.focus();
} else {
document.write("Welcome back " +userName); }
It isn't working, I would like to monitor the user entry for only text values
