Problem With 'undefined' Object In Server Side JavaScript

Jul 23, 2005

I'm displaying a loggin page.

If the user entered an invalid UserName/Password I display the page again.
When this happens I want to give the user a different message then the one displayed when the page was initially displayed.

I use the Response.Redirect method from the page checking the submition.
When I do that I call the page with a parameter like this Response.Redirect("Page.asp?FROM=1").

When I get the parameter in the page I know I need to show a different message.

The problem is that if the page is called without the parameter, I
cannot determine that the parameter is missing.

The codse is very simple:

from_flag = Request.QueryString("FROM")

Now is the problem -

if I use if(from_flag == 'undefined') - this condition return
false.
but if I display from_flag using Response.Write(from_flag) I get "undefined"

if I use if(typeof from_flag == "undefined") - this does not work since the typeof return "object" in both cases when I call the page with the parameter or without the parameter.

also I tried to comnpare with null does not work.

By the way if I use VBScript as the script lang - it works fine I just need to compare the from_flag with vbNullString and all is well....

JQuery :: Retrieve Json_encoded Data But Getting "undefined"?

Jun 2, 2011

have the following code that I thought I could retrieve json_encoded data but I'm just getting "undefined".The json_encoded string from the php array:{"table":null,"id":"2","itemCode":"1003","itemDesc":"Item infor for1003","itemWholesale":"1.99"}]I thought I could "grab" the name of each in the array and output the dataaccordingly. So on success of the ajax post (which does return data) I triedalert(itemData.itemCode); This is on line 10 in the below code snippet. Using this method returns "undefined" and NOT the data 1003 as I would expect.

jQuery Code:
$('#search_results tr').live('click', function() {
var $itemrow = $(this).closest('tr');

JavaScript Slidingmenu Error - "EventCache Is Undefined"

Mar 6, 2006

I used the code provided in Modern Web Design using JavaScript and DOM by Stuart Langridge to build a JavaScript sliding menu for navigation. I copied and pasted all the code, but I get the error message "EventCache is undefined" on my page. Can anyone explain why this is happening. I am a novice with JavaScript and was using this to learn.

The code in particular is as follows:

addEvent: function(elm, evType, fn, useCapture) {
// cross-browser event handling for IE5+, NS6 and Mozilla
// By Scott Andrew
if (elm.addEventListener) {
elm.addEventListener(evType, fn, useCapture);
return true;
} else if (elm.attachEvent) {
var r = elm.attachEvent('on' + evType, fn);
EventCache.add(elm, evType, fn);
return r;
} else {
elm['on' + evType] = fn;
}}
};

Passing Data Between Javascript And PHP

May 1, 2006

I am working on an application in which monthly calendars of events are to be generated. When the page is initially loaded, the current month's calendar is generated using Javascript; the user can also move forward to the next month or backward. For each month, I need to be able to retrieve server-side data (using PHP/MySQL) to fill each day-cell ("td"+i, below) of the calendar with events for that day which reside in the server-side database, keyed by date. Here is a snippet of the code that generates the days of a given month:

var d = 1;
for (i = 0; i < 42; i++) {
var elem;
var elem = eval(document.getElementById("td"+i)); //the day cell
elem.innerHTML = "";
if (i >= startingPos && i < lastpos){
elem.innerHTML = d
d += 1;
.
.
return;

In short, I need to get data from the database as the days are created (elem.innerHTML = d, above) or get all the data for the chosen month (probably more efficient), and send it back to the Javascript where it can be parsed and loaded to the appropriate cell(s) in the calendar.

And when he clicks on a day, it get its color permanently changed until he choses another day for focus. I tried onMouseOver, onClick and onMouseOut, but I just cannot find a way for it to lose focus on the day last clicked when I click anew.

Accessing Form Data From Javascript

Jul 23, 2005

I've been using some code to verify form data quite happily, but i've
recently changed the way my form is structured, and I can't get it to work
now.

Originally :

The form is called "form1", and I have selects called "PORTA", "PORTB" ...
etc...

I then had javascript that accessed these selects as below, and it worked
fine.

ind = document.form1.PORTD.selectedIndex;
val = document.form1.PORTD.options[ind].value;
dev = document.form1.PORTD.options[ind].text;

My form is now autogenerated, and form data is stored to file, so I now use
an associative array for thte form elements (so that I can loop through them
easily), The form elements names are now :

McuCfg[PORTA], McuCfg{PORTB} and so on

Now, I modified the javascript so that it now uses the McuCfg[] associative
array :

ind = document.form1.McuCfg[PORTD].selectedIndex;
val = document.form1.McuCfg[PORTD].options[ind].value;
dev = document.form1.McuCfg[PORTD].options[ind].text;

When the script runs, I get the error

"document.form1.McuCfg.PORTD is null or not an object"

I have used the same notation that i know works for the "options" array
although that's not an associative array.

Javascript To Capture HTTP Data For Parsing

Feb 18, 2007

I am trying to write a script which will allow me to read the contents of an
HTTP web page into memory, parse the data, and output a calculated value.

The HTTP page is on a web enable appliance - I am reading some data out of a
table for further calculation. I can't modify the web appliance, only read
the text data.

I've written a script on my Windoze PC that successful uses a MSXML2 ActiveX
object to read the contents of a web page into memory using the
xmlhttp.responseText object. The problem is that the ActiveX object is not
available on a lightweight Linux based http server.

I need to write a script that will work with ASP/Javascript on a lightweight

Output Data From Mysql Database In Javascript?

Mar 16, 2004

Not sure if this is the correct forum as it covers data retrieved from mysql in a .js file...

I need to grab the last 5 rows from my database (2 fields per row) and list all 5 in a table but from within a .js file that I can externally link to.

I can manage the php / mysql and the output to a .php page but how can this be contained within a .js file?

I believe it is possible but after 2 days of searching on google I'm appealing for assistance.

I realise this could be done with a php include or iframe but that isn't an option and the only way available to import this data is via an external javascript script.

JavaScript Script To Parse Text Fields From Multipart/form-data

Jul 23, 2005

Does anyone know where I can find an ASP server side script written in
JavaScript to parse text fields from a form method='POST' using
enctype='multipart/form-data'? I'd also like it to parse the filename.

<form name='form1' method='POST' enctype='multipart/form-data'
action='sub.asp'>
<input type='text' name='title1' value='value1'>
<input type='file' name='file1'>

Web site is coded in ASP using JavaScript and I can't figure out a way
to immediately pass the text fields already parsed from server side
VBScript to server side JavaScript.

My ASP code looks like this:

<script language="JavaScript" runat="server">
//I would like to add JavaScript to parse the text field and
filename of file1 here.
</script>
<!--The 3rd party document below parses all fields from the message
content and uploads any file fields it encounters.--->
<!--#include file="aspinclude/upload.asp"-->
<script language="JavaScript" runat="server">
//Add record here (title1, filename from file1).

JQuery :: Using .ajax() To Access Cross-domain Data Using JSONP - Able To Cache The Data

Jun 27, 2011

I am using .ajax() to access cross-domain data using JSONP. Because I need to be able to cache the data I want to use a static name for thejsonpCallback function, so I have set the jsonpCallback option in the .ajax() request. However that appears to requires a global function whereas the auto generated function didn't (well maybe it did but that was all hidden from me).

I definitely need to be able to cache the results. Ideally I wouldn't have a global function handling the data. Is there another way to do this? If not what is the best practice way to go about using a global function these days and how do I provide it with the context of the object/module it was called from - which is where the data is needed?
