Reset Focus After Validation Code Finds An Error

I would appreciate any help I can get about setting focus back to a textbox after my javascript validates that the input by a user into the textbox is incorrect. You can see my attempt at this towards the end of the javascript with - dateStr.Edate.focus(); I know the dateStr part is incorrect but not sure what other variable to use. Plus I am guessing I need to put the statement right before each false statement since there are different errors that can occur by the user. Additionally, I have two textboxes that I want the same javascript to validate. How does this affect setting focus to the appropriate textbox after an incorrect input. I am new to javascript so I hope my question makes sense. Thanks.

I'm using the form validation and it's working great. But the form reset button, although it clears the form fields, does not clear the errors. My page header has this code so far:

I'm trying to understand how to implement the following in order for the reset button to do that:

validator.resetForm();
I'm not an experienced JS person but have a lot of other programming experience (vb, vba, mssql, delphi).

I have managed to create a very basic form validation script that I can retrospectively add into current forms with the least effort.
As far as the validation goes I am sure that the script is not pretty, but it does work. However, I have failed to manage to get it to return the focus to the first field that errors.
My abortive attempts are not included in the attached script because I have tried and failed with many different attempts that I have confused myself. I would appreciate any advice that could point me in the right direction to place the focus in the first error field found. Code:

I know this must be pretty basic but I can't get it to work. I've written validation for a text field- it should have no periods in it. I want to reset the value of the field then give the field focus, if it has a period. Here is my code:

I call it from onChange. It resets the value but the focus goes to the next field (or stays there I guess.) Is there a way to set the focus on the same field?
PS I should mention, this form has disabled the "Enter" key and I can't change that behavior. I've been tbbing between fields, and it is when I tab that I am experiencing the problem.

I am trying to display validation error messages when form validation fails. Currently it does display the error messages but then disappears straight away. How can I stop the page from refreshing when validation fails? I have return false in my code when validation fails but still having same problem. I recently started on an browser based MMORPG, I just found 1 major issue.I'm using these libraries
JS A* Algoritm ( http://devpro.it/code/137.html )
Jquery ( http://www.jquery.com/ )
Jquery UI (http://ui.jquery.com/ )
So I'm using a little piece of JavaScript code in which im accessing the AStar function. The downside is, the AStar algorithm only finds vertical tiles. (See screenshots below)

If you choose a non-vertical path, var path gives an empty array (path.length = 0 )If I choose a vertical path, it's working as intended.

I am developing a web page . For this i am using Javascript embedded in html. In the application ,the user can input data via interfaces in the page which is chosen and read from a master xml file , the chosen data then needs to be stored and saved in a xml file.I have designed the web page in FrontPage.
Now the problem i face is while trying to save the output xml file i get error Permission Denied , error code 0 . This happens when i try to open the page in browser IE 6.0 SP2.I am using DOM parser methods for doing the xml manipulations/savings etc.urprisingly this works in another machine.Also can i use the all of the same javascript code if i want to run it in an IIS. Do i have to do some changes to make it server side javascript code.

While loading this JSP page I got the Tab 1 (Default selected) & Tab 2 view.
Scenario : I have a save button which is common to both the tabs. I entered some input fields in Tab 1 and trying to save the page. I am doing a validation in java script save button which checks the values in Tab 2... if it is empty I want to focus the Tab 2 to user.
Tried : For this scenario I tried $('#container-1').tabs(2);
after my java script validation alert. Its not throwing any script error as well not working...

I have declared the object using

It works with IE version 6.0.2600 but not with IE version 6.0.2800
Couldnt find wat tis error code 1072896658.

I've been building up my validation using the jquery validation plugin but I can't work out how to get a failed validation to default the focus to the first invalid input rather than to the last selected input. If there is no input field selected, when I submit then a failed validation will focus the cursor on the first field but if the cursor was left in a field and submitted then the focus stays there (if it's invalid) rather than jump to the first invalid input. From what I've read and seen, this is the expected behaviour but not what I want. Is there a way I can get the first invalid field and set the focus to that?

Below is the code which is used to validate the entries on a form(some field are not be left blank). The user gets the msg when he hits the "Check"button. The problem is after the user gets the msg, I am not able to set the focus in the field which is the first element of an error array which stores the info about the fields with errors on this form.code...

I am trying to fix error- object does not exist- I want it possible to
allow object not to exist.
I am writing a script on a page that may or may not include a login
form. For example-after a visitor logs in, the login form is no longer
on the page, but other content is still there.
I want to bring focus to the login form using the onLoad in the body
tag.....but if the login form does not exist, I do not want to perform
this function.
The following code works fine for focusing the cursor on to the login
form.

I have a table (not in a form) that has several input text boxes. I want to have a reset button that acts like the form RESET button. I thought I would use the following jQuery method:

I thought this would be simple, but I can't seem to figure out how to target the text that the user types into an input field before he/she decides to "reset" and start over.

From stepping through the code, when the pound and pence fields on the form are blank, but the name is filled in, it should error at "Please fill in value for pence" but it doesnt? It just submits the form anyway?

I haven't really gotten to far into javascript, but i think i'm going to need to with a particularly annoying problem with one of my javascript statements.
i use this statement in some of pages to take the user back to the referring page:

the problem is if the page is directly accessed this code doesn't work obviously.
error messages suck, what can i do to validate this and if a referrer isn't found then redirect it to the home page of my site?

I am using the Inline Form Validation Engine jQuery plugin found here [URL], and though I have posted at their forum as well, am having a heck of a time (not being well versed in js OR Ajax, unfortunately)
All I need to do is edit the code so that when the onSubmit function is processed, it returns only the first error it encounters, rather than keeping and display the array of every error. I have picked through the code several times, and can't seem to find where the array is stored. I thought perhaps I could find a for loop to limit, but am at a complete loss.

I'm using the validation plugin and tries to get the invalid errors to appear like I want to. If the form isn't valid, I would like to change the invalid elements placeholder text to a different color. That's it. I don't want to show any message somewhere. Is this possible? How?

The jquery.validate.pack.js file found on [url] causes an error when run in IE6. I re-ran the packing process with the perl port of Dean Edwards' Packer found here [url] and the problem no longer persists.
Here is the command I ran on cygwin:
These are the safest settings I've found with jsPacker.pl. The packed file lost 2kb (.1kb gzipped) of savings, but it works now!

I'm currently learning many web programming languages and figured this would be a good way to learn more and do things better. I have been working on a contact form for my website. I had originally did the error checking in PHP, but I would like to change it to JaveScript since this is the preferred way. i need US zip code formatting on my page. as zip code can be 5 digits or 5-4 digits, our requirement is that when user types in 6th digit, hyphen automatically gets added between 5th and 6th digit. ex: user enters 100161,it should become formatted as 10016-1 and then user can continue to add rest of digits.
