Match Width In Pixels To Textbox Size?
Jan 17, 2010
I have a div that appears directly below a text box. When the user clicks on an item in the div, i place it in the textbox. I want the width of both the textbox and the div to be that of the largest item in the div.
However, setting the textbox to have the same width of the div will not show all the characters of the selected text. I assume this is because of differences between pixel width and the input size property.

I have a form field where I let the user enter desired width for a table. The field should allow values in percentage or in pixels only. A JS check should allow the user to enter valid values like ྌ%' or 魐' only. Other illegal values like '%80', 'blah' or ྖpx' should not be allowed.

Why is it bad to use pixels to specify font size. If people think its too small/too big, they can Ctrl + and Ctrl - in their browser even in IE. is there another reason why its a bad idea to use pxs?

I am trying to customize this scrollbar so that it will fit all screen resolutions and I was wondering how I could do this by somehow customizing the JavaScript files created by Nathan Faubion or if I could do this using other JavaScript variables (var widthPercentage) to change the pixels to percentages?One of the pages on the website I'm using the JavaScript on
JavaScript file jsScroller.js:

If I have an image upload box on my page and I wanted to check the image either after selected or before the form is submitted to import it, is there a line or command I can use to return the size in pixels(width*height)...
I've seen it done and I'm assuming jscript has something to offer here but my googling has come up a bit short so I'm not too sure where to begin..

My resizable works great. I want to be able to set the width and height after init. How do I set the width and height from a javascript function? I am using the onClick event of an IMG to call a javascript function.
I want to set the height and width of my resizable, so I want to set ui.size.width and ui.size.height.
How do I reference ui.size.width and ui.size.height of my resizable within a javascript function?

I have 2 monitors with a different resolution. It is important in yapplicationthat I get the screen size of the monitor wherethe webbrowser is located. When I try to get the screen size (window.screen.height + window.screen.width) only IE gives me always the screen size of the main monitor where my taskbar (windows7) is located, instead of the screen size of the secondary screen where the webbrowser is located. It does work in all other webbrowsers .
I have created a page with an alert on JSbin.com to show you your screen resolution. If you use 2 monitors open the page in one of the monitors. You will notice you will get the screen resolution of the screen where your web browser is located, except in IE (hoera!)

Below is the script and form fields I am working with. What I want to do is sum the two textbox fields and have the result show in the total textbox. The code works fine and the total textbox is updated with the value of form1.basic. The problem occurs when I add the "+ parseInt(document.form2.supporter.value)" code in the script section.

Is there a recommended way to tell how many pixels are in 1em, or otherwise gauge how big the text is (when the user may have specified a larger font-size in browser preferences for easier reading)?

My site has links in it with hash tags so people can share information externally, and when the link is clicked on my page loads already scrolled down on the correct div. ex. http:[url]....My issue is the top of the div is aligned exactly on the top of the text in div123. Since the browser automatically scrolls there, is there a way to make the page scroll up by 20 pixels just to make it look nicer?

let me try to explain better what I'm trying to do. I'm a real newbie I don't know much javascript but I understand more or less the logic behind it... tell me if this solution should work and if you know how to do it please show me. [URL]... I need to make div#photo's width to match the total width measurement of all the images it contains. If you load the page and you don't touch the size, it will work fine... but that's not realistic. If I resize the page, which will happen often on this kind of page (I'm assuming), the whole thing goes haywire (try it, scroll to the last image and resize the page you'll see what I mean). What can I do? Is my idea the right solution? Am I not explaining this clearly enough? Let me know please, I'm desperate. I've been trying to get CSS to do this for me for 3 hours now. Nothing works.

I currently have a website where i share thoughts with my friends (some kind of forum) and within this 'forum' people can post pictures they made but most of the time these pictures exceed the max width of my website so my website gets all streched out!So this is what i want: all images on the page must run thru some sort of function which checks if the image image width exceeds the max_width. if it does then the script must calculate how many pixels the current width exceeds the max_width and get this number so that the script does: current_width = current_width - (max_width - current_width)

I've recently start using Flexigrid (old JQuery grid plugin), and, as you may know, one of the few issue this really good grid plugin got is the lack of liquid layout option. My personal idea to solve the problem is to set the "width" parameter depending on $(window).width. Here is the problem (and here's why i post this question in "General use" and not in "Plugin").
The starting, and working, code is:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#flex1").flexigrid
(
{
[Code].....
This work fine for me, but I supose it could be done way much elegant... maybe somethin without "IF" that could emulate the "%", like var percentage = $(#div.id).width()*0.XX with the 0.XX picked from an array of percentage, one for each column. Probably I should set up a function... ahhhh, as you may easily see I'm a total beginner with JQuery (and JS in general...)

I am trying to setup a javascript function that sets a div's width based on the combined width of the li's with the name "navItem". The problems I have been running into when trying to define the width of the li's is that they do not have a width defined in css. Can anyone help me out with this? The javascript function setWindow is suppose to show the div loginWindow and set the width of it.
Code:
