Jquery :: Changing Character Length Validate
Nov 17, 2010
I using the jquery_validate.js script to validate my registration page. Does a great job, but I need to increase the length of password characters from 6 to 8, with at least one number. This is the message a user gets:
HTML Code: Please enter at least 6 characters. I'm quite new to jQuery and I looked at the jQuery validation page and couldn't figure out how to change the parameters. It's suppose to be easy to modified by I'm at a loss as to how to change the rule from 6 to 8 and include a number.

I have a textarea field that is validated by Js, this textarea can and will contain the newline character so I validate in JS if(textareaname.value.length < 200)this hten goes through to my php where i also check before I place in to the Database using MYSQL,if( strlen($_POST['textareaname']) < 200 )but my php is giving me a different string length from my javascript.It looks as if Javascript is counting a newline as 1 character and php is treating it as 2.I have checked my slashes, I have used various REgex to check these data amounts. I have also Googled around and there doesnt seem much around.how I can make php and javascript treat a newline as the same amount of characters?

I have a text area in one of my forms that I want to control the character size of. In short, I want to keep the text area to 10,000 characters.
What I Have Found: I have found a number of scripts that will control the character length of the text area, while you are typing.
The Problem: If you cut and paste a document that contains 15,000 characters into the text area that is limited to 10,000 characters, it will still take all of the information (i.e. the 15,000 characters), as opposed to limiting/cutting it off.
Does anyone know of a script that will control the overall character length whether it be inserted via key stroke or is copy and pasted into the text area? Or possibly point me in the right direction?

this is what im trying to do:
Code:
var field01 = document.getElementById("Field01").value;
field01[0] = field01[0].toUpperCase();
it doesnt work, the first letter of the field stays lower case BUT when I do this:
Code:
alert (field01[0].toUpperCase());
then it converts the first character to uppercase, well only in the alert box, the actual one still unchanged.
so i figure thats because it needs to be triggered somehow, it wont work by assigning it. i cant use it as return. are there any trigger methods that would just let me capitalize the first letter without any pop ups or anything?

I have a question if it is possible to manipulate the settings of
character encoding in Ms Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0. The
problem is that the default instalation of Ms IE seems to have hard
selected default encoding to "Western European (ISO)", which means
iso-8859-1. When browsing pages with some Central/Eastern European
characters these are converted to iso-8859-1 so displayed wrong.
I would suppose the "auto-select" option should be default, so the
browser can select the right encoding according to the meta-tags in
the head of webpage. But this is apparently not true.
Please, is it possible to use JavaScript or Java applet to get the
information about the current client character encoding settings
and/or change it to the "auto-select" value ? How to do this ?

I have a HTML form which takes some values including a password field. I have a JS function to check and alert when a user enters some particular special characters(this is bcoz only these characters are not allowed in the back end of the html form, all the other special characters are allowed). following is the code for it.
function checklen()
{
var iChars = "`<>";
for (var i = 0; i < document.ipform.password.value.length; i++) {
[Code]...
now i want a feature which does'nt allow the user to enter an uppercase letter or a special character(only these are allowed~@#$%^&*()-_+|) as the the first character of the password field. Since i am newbie to JS, It would be a great help if some one can help me to sort out this..

I'm using the validation plugin [url]
I must be missing something, is there not an easy way to validate inline?
For example, I have a required text input that is given focus on page load, I would like for it to throw an error if the user moves to the next field w/o entering any data.
Right now, it only checks for errors on 'submit'.

I have a form (form1) to register with the fields: user, email, password being validated normally.
Have a second form (Form2) to the user update the data registered in form1, and the fields user, email, password is already populated with data from the database, the email field I use the remote validation, and as the field already has been completed and read always says that this email already exists, how do I create a rule or method so that when the field is already filled it not do so validating and validate if it is filled with a new email. Email2 have a hidden field in order to do a test type.

I'm working under certain constraints wherein,at a certain point outside my direct control,validate is called with no arguments, but after that I want to set a custom validation function on a form field. I figure there's got to be a way to manipulate validate's internal data structure to add the function, but I don't have a clue as to how.

I have a section of a form containing elements that are not visible, currently just in a hidden div. Some of these elements have validation on them so when the form is submitted it fails on this validation.What I am after is a way to stop the validation firing for any hidden elements. I have tried setting them to 'display: none' and 'visibility: hidden' but this does not have any affect.

I am trying to dynamically clear the value of a form input field and then submit the form.When I used $('#my_field').val('') to clear the field, it was cleared on the screen but when the form was submitted the original value of the input field was posted.My browser is FireFox and I can see using FireBug that when the field is cleared, firebug is still showing the html code with the old value. E.G. <input type="text" value="old_value" />The same situation occurred if I used $('#my_field').attr('value', '') to clear the field.The same situation occurred if I actually changed the value of the field rather than just clearing it.To work around this problem I ended up using the $('#my_field').removeAttr('value') to clear the field before it was submitted.

Internet Explorer (in particular IE6) has some limit on maximum URL length. This is very hard to debugging if you don't know what to search for. Maybe jQuery could throw some self-explaining exception when URL is too long?

I'm brand new to jquery, and am trying to set up a dynamic navigation dropdown which is populated with XML by our system (which I can't change.) For some reason, IE6 is showing space where the unused <li></li> tags are. I am trying to create a jquery code which will detect whether or not a link is present in the <li> so I can turn the display off or on dynamically. The relevant jquery code is here:[code]It should eventually appear like this, the way it does in Firefox due to CSS styling:[code]Which means that somehow, it is reading the <a> even when there isn't one.

The function below results in this error and I'm not sure how to correct it? The initial value of the field is 0.00, but it doesn't look like it's relevant.. That is, even when the value isn't 0, it still results in this error.
Code:
if($("input[name='b2h']")) {
$("input[name='b1']").bind("keyup", b2);
b2();
}
