Sliding Menu - Make Menu Go Up And Down When The Arrows Are Clicked
Dec 12, 2011I'm trying to make this menu go up and down when the arrows are clicked. Right now, it shows all of them and I can't figure out how to make it so that it only shows the first 9 and will show the rest in the menu when it's clicked. I really don't know where to start. I found some scripts but they turned out really funky. Even if it's something super simple is cool, just where to begin??

When I try printing the Web Page from the browser, the Top Level Navigation Menu appears as a list of links (vertical). This is happening in both IE as well as Firefox.
I have seen the same issue in the website from where I downloaded Superfish :-|

JQuery :: Make A Two Part Navigation Menu (main/sub Category)
Jun 4, 2011My goal right now is to make a two-part navigation bar where you don't have to reload the whole site, when you click on a link. The navigation bar consists of two <ul> lists with <li> float:left and <a> display:block, so I basically have two lines. It's probably easier to understand if you see it for yourself: jsfiddle (had to change the css style, because I use .less but it works)
When you load the page it's just like that, you have your main category (A,B,C,D,...) and the sub-category (A1,A2,A3,...). What I want: If you click on B, the sub category changes to B1,B2,.... If you click on a sub category the site loads the requested page (with ajax = best solution?!)
My thoughts
At first I thought about just changing the name and href attribute of the second list, but the main categories have different amounts of sub categories, so I would need to add or remove <li>'s. Then I thought about using .load() but I somehow screwed up (of course) and the loaded <ul> doesn't have any css style (wrong order?) and I can't see anything. (with a loaded test.html site containing only the word "test" it worked) Is ajax "overkill" as a solution?
CodeIgniter and the URL
I use CodeIgniter (a PHP framework) for the website and URLs like this: www.example.com/maincategory/subcategory (e.g. example.com/A/A3) That's no problem at all, if I don't use any javascript and reload the whole site every time. But is it possible to change the URL with jQuery when the user clicks through the navigation bar? You click on B, the URL changes to example.com/B all the subcategories change to B1,B2,...When you click on B2 the URL changes to example.com/B/B2 and the site loads the requested page (I guess with ajax, so the navigation stays the same?!)
Minor problem: when you load the site, click on B, then B3 for example, you would get the url example.com/B/B3. If you now save this link, close the site and reopen it with the link, CodeIgniter would load the right site and everything, but the navigation would show A1,A2,.. in the sub category.
Hover vs click
Almost every page where I saw this kind of menu they used hover to change the sub category. But I thought click would be better, so you don't have to avoid touching B,C,D,.. if you want to go from A to A9 for example. Only downside is that you have to click before you see the sub categories.
Summary
A two part navigation menu you can use without reloading, changing URLs (when possible) and probably ajax to load the actual content.

JQuery :: Vertical Sliding Navigation - How To Improve Code
Apr 15, 2011i have been coding on this vertical sliding navigation quite a while. its tested on all relevant browsers and works like a dream. id loved to show you an example of it, but the site is under development, and i, as a little coder, am not allowed to grant access to it, additionally i do not have enough time to create a testcase for everybody to see.
to give you a short insight:
the site is quite long (vertically) and we wanted a small navigation (very subtle) to follow the user when scrolling. the problem was: the footer is quite long too, and we didnt want the sliding navigation to reach into it, when scrolling down the footer. in other words: i had to stop the animation when the sliding nav reached the end of the main content.so far so good, i had NO idea how to tell the animation to stop at certain conditions, other than telling it that from the start.
my solution is totally workaround and completely selfmade. but i am SURE that there is some kind of "stop animation when condition is met"-command i was totally overlooking. so please dear jquery community: tell me what i am doing wrong, and how i could improve this function.

JQuery :: Make A Dropdown Menu Reappear After An Auto - Redirect And Clicking The Back Button?
Oct 25, 2011Within my code below, when selecting 'Animals'in the dropdown menu a second dropdown menu appears.Selecting any item within this second dropdown menu causes a page redirect. When you click the back button in the browser, this second dropdown menu disappears in every browser besides Firefox. I want the user to be able to change their animal selection, e.g. choose 'Cat' first, then go back and choose 'Bird'.
I don't understand why the second dropdown menu disappears, going 'back' should display the page as it was. Is there any way to get the second dropdown menu to reappear without using a jQuery history plugin? This code does not behave as I have described in jsfiddle, so have pasted it here:
