I'm using JavaScript (through a ColdFusion component) to submit data to a database for either INSERT or UPDATE.How can I tell JavaScript that a particular value going into the database needs to be NULL?

I'm trying to create a dynamic form, and for the most part it's working out fine.I'm using javascript with onclick and onchange on checkboxes and select boxes to change the form as the user makes selections.However, there's a few issues I'm running into that are giving me problems.
One is that when the user reloads the page, all of the javascript inserted or removed form elements are reset, but the choices on the checkboxes and select boxes aren't, which looks very strange to the user. How can I avoid this? I'm currently including scripts tags in the body of the html, but this is pretty messy and hard to manage. Is there a better way? Second is that I'd like to be able to insert javascript function declarations into text that is dynamically inserted by javascript.However, when I do so, the browser does not recognize the functions. The reason I'd like to do so is that I am using Ruby on Rails, and would like to be able to keep the scripts in the partials to which they relate. I have to use inline javascript, because the scripts are having element ids inserted based on Ruby variables. Is this a lost cause, or is there a technique that enables dynamically inserted javascript to be loaded?
Lastly, my dynamic form's javascript shows or hides portions based on what it encounters while loading. The main reason is that I want to show the whole form for users without javascript, and then hide advanced or obscure details unless they are activated with a checkbox on the form for users with javascript. However, this is creating a jarring pop-in effect, where on first load, the pre-javascript formatted page is shown for a split second, and then the javascript kicks in and fixes everything and the page visibly jumps and changes. Is there a way to avoid this to create a more polished effect?

What I have right now:Endless loop of Rows/records.Each one has a checkbox and a submit button.� I tried to make the checkbox pick up updating `long_desc`� The submit button currently just marks the job completed in the DB. (0=Incompleted 1=Completed)Submit button works with updating the row, right now... but instead of the submit button doing that, I want to have 2 checkboxes. One that knows to update the text field, and one that knows to update the status of the job, submit button to initialize it.I have some Javascript in already to separate the forms I have, and assign ID's to each Submit button on the page, but I really am stuck right now.

I'm hoping to get some pointers on how to best approach this problem, or if a plug-in exists to point me that way. I'm anticipating I'll need to build the code though because of the specific nature of the issue. I have a two very complex MySQL data trees that need to cross reference. To handle the cross referencing I simply have a third table that links the ids of the large tables together. That way I can join data via the linking table. This is all working and established. What I need to do is allow the admin user to navigate through one tree from within the context of a particular element from the other tree and click a toggle icon (tick or cross) to create or delete the cross reference in the linking table. Traditionally I would perform this task using forms but I want the user to be able to make these changes on the fly without needing to reload the page. I also want to stop further toggling until the update or delete has been completed.

I would like to knoe how to update the links in div1 without refreshing, because refreshing = going back to the start of the code i am working on.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi having problem on passing the database query result to the javascritpt for calculation.i doing a program that need to calculate the total_price for the purchase items. i use getString to get the foodID, f_item and the unit_price from database, then i need to use the unit_price for doing the calculation in javascript. after get the data from database, the unit_price is used to multiple with the qty that user input to calculate the total_price.since there are several row of data get from database, so user need to enter the qty for each item and then press [Calculate_db] button to perform the calculated result. hence, the total_price for each item is calculated and the sum of all the total_price also being calculated and display in the page.now, i having problem on pass the unit_price to the javascript for calculation.

Basically the user would see a button on a form that would be something like "add contact"...then a window opens that shows a search window (want to implement something like [URL]) and it would show all the contacts available in the contacts table...then the user selects the contact to add (via a link).
I think i could get it this far, but how would i then pass that $row to the main form so that i can use the fields from that $row in the contacts table on my form?
I need to pass user input from a form to one database field. I'm relatively new to JS but the idea I had was to have several form elements and use JS to collect the users input and send all the values through a hidden element. What's happening is the variable names are being sent rather than the values. The code below is only passing to the next page. I did find the javascript twice in my code, once in the header and once here, so i removed it from the header. I also changed to src to the full url. But i am still getting this and i dont know why. the file is located in the root directory. found a solution. basically Internet Explorer is crappy and doesnt like the setAttribute property so had to change the onchange handler by directly changing the attrbute for the object like so.object.onchange = function() {}i have no idea what they means, does that mean i need to change swfobject.js or does that mean i have to change my xml request. and if it is the swfobject i have no clue what they mean or what lines

I am confused because I have seen in some webpages that javascript is not designed to connect with databases, and also I have see other pages where they say that it is possible.

I am attempting to create an Access database connection from within an HTML page. I am using Javascript to make the connection and then test a basic UPDATE statement.

I have been trying to grasp the whole 'Pass By Value/Reference' thing for a few hours now. From what i can make out:
Passing by value will make a copy of the value, pass it as a function argument and the function will store the changes, the original value is not affected. So for example:

If you was then to pass the value of 'a' to a function argument it would copy and not change the original value.
If you pass by reference it will change the original value. When you pass a reference to a value through a series of different functions and the value is constantly being changed the change happens on the original value and can be seen outside the function.
The problem is i cannot think of how or why this would be used. I havn't got to develop many large applications so im trying to think of a few situations when passing by reference would be used.
