How to improve the web site loading performance. My current site takes average time 18 sec. to load in first time. and 2nd time refresh it takes 12 sec. through YSlow I am observing the request time it more. how to achieve the better performance. My html code is very much clean and w3c validated.
On our website we wanna bind a click (or maybe mouseover)-event on every user-image. The click on the image should open a layer with further information about the user. Now i look for a best practice way to solve this (focus on performance), because there could be a lot of user-images on one side. I think, if i bind the event on a class like this
that could slow down the site, because i read, that "The class selector is the slowest selector in jQuery". Back to the roots and insert an onclick(function) to the element, but i'm not realy happy with that solution.
I put a javascript for a preload in it and it hasnt helped the front page. Right now the header is swish and we took that out and it still took over 2 minutes to download on DSL. I do have the JS anthology book but the script in there didn't work for us. Come to think of it I have almost all of the sitepoint books. Does anyone have any suggestions.
I have following problem: If you open a dialog in jquery, the website will be "deacitve" and the dialog would show. I want, that the website will be "deactive", but there shouldn't show any dialogs.
I have a JS file on site A which needs a few parameters from a short text file on site B. Since crossing domain boundaries in JS is problematic, the way I do it is that the JS actually opens an intermediate PHP file on site A which redirects to the destination page in site B. Here's how it goes:
The call is made through code...
The problem is that this takes a long time. I would really like to speed this up. For example - I thought of using a direct IP address, so that there won't be any need a DNS server (using Code...
) but this would expose me to hackers as it would make my Hostgator username visible. According to HG support the above format is the only way to access my subsite via direct IP.
Any ideas on how to speed this up, either by bypassing DNS (but without exposing username) or by offering another way of reading data across sites?

Should I always YUI or GZIP text files in my site or only when they exceed a certain size? Since the decompression takes some time as well I thought that if the files are small they should only be mified...is that correct?
I would to know please if is it possible to block the loading of particular site by/via javascript. Having a web page with a flash content that contains a call to a particular site, I don't want to receive information from that site. does exists a javascript code that block that call to that site?
I am working on a client's site and he has some external javascript code that his affiliates can put on their websites to fetch some data. However, when my client's site goes down, the affiliates' sites cease to load thus taking their sites down with it.
Is there any way I can have the javascript check to see if the website is up before loading, and if it is, run this: Code:
As i understand the getScript function should be asyncronous, but when i use it the website won't finish loading in firefox.
My code:
Calls itself so the counter this script is used for is updated - all works well, just the page keeps loading...so whats the problem here? why does the website not finish loading?
I am trying to use both jQuery and Mootools in one site I am building. I have researched the web including [URL] with no luck. I have tried loading jQuery after Motools with no luck. My research indicates mootools needs to go first. I have also tried below but that doesn't seems to work? (function($){ // code with the jQuery $ can safely go in here })(jQuery);
I had posted this issue previously regarding my Ajax site navigation module not loading correctly. It would load on certain parts of the site and not others. After some research I have discovered that I need to redirect from "www.mydomain.com" and make a call to "mydomain.com" instead. I thought a 301 .htaccess redirect would work but according to the site that sold me the template the script in my configure.php file must be changed. This is what configure.php looks like now.
I am wondering what has to be changed in the script so it will make the call the the correct domain so the ajax script will load on all parts of the site.
Ok i just created my portfolio site using a simple accordion effect i got from. [URL] Im very new to javascript and coding in general, so im sure my code is far from pretty. My question, is their a way to fix the delay on the way the accordion loads. if you go to my site [URL] you'll see that initially all the sections are visible and then they collapse after a few moments. is there anyway to make it so they are collapsed immediately.
Not what i would like but the client wants the browser re-sized on the site loading/refreshing... Been using the following and it works fine.... apart from in Safari. how i can get it working in Safari, or no chance?
This code works successfully, however the outputted message looks boring and unprofessional.
This appears with a plain grey border around it: "You cannot upload without first logging in. If you have not already logged in, please do that first." How do you add attributes to those script lines? And the border too?
I have a input date field, I hope that javascript can validate and improve that input date. For example, if I input 5/27 the result will be 2010/05/27, if I input 10/5/27, the same result will be showed, and so on.
For example, you want to make different all links (a tags), which href attribute is set to external site. So I wrote a small piece of JQuery code, which add class, to all external links. As bonus it's also do shortening of long URLs in link text.
On this link you will see my test site:At the moment I am not too happy with the animation on the navigation menu.As you will see as you click quickly through the various links the animation is very jumpy because of the way I have coded it.Also when you click on the gallery page and then select the various gallery images, the animated ball moves all the way to the left. Here is the JQuery code for the animation:
PHP Code:$(function() {//event object (notice it in the parameter list) contains data about the event handled$(".linkbox").mouseover(function(event){//selectedDiv is the clicked object, so you can do what ever u want on the box clicked ;)var selectedDiv = $(this);var divPosition = selectedDiv.position();var divPositionLeft = divPosition.left;$(".circle").animate( {"left": + divPositionLeft}, "100" );})})function movebacka() {Each page has an include file with the nav menu contents, so every time you click a link in the nav menu, a new page has to load, therefor causing the jumpiness in the animation. What are the best ways to resolve these kind of issues.
I have 3 images that I would like to display horizontally. I need a default text to appear first when the page loads. When an image is clicked on, the new text should slide down covering the default text. When another image is clicked on that text should slide down and cover the previous image's text.Right now the script only allows a vertical display of the images and I can't put the sliding text in a specific place. Here is the CSS
i want to make a iframe page that loading a page from other site. I have try "jQuery iFrame Sizing" to set auto height in iframe... but it is failed.
This is my code : ------------- on Head <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/iframe.js"></script> on Body
i have been coding on this vertical sliding navigation quite a while. its tested on all relevant browsers and works like a dream. id loved to show you an example of it, but the site is under development, and i, as a little coder, am not allowed to grant access to it, additionally i do not have enough time to create a testcase for everybody to see. to give you a short insight:
the site is quite long (vertically) and we wanted a small navigation (very subtle) to follow the user when scrolling. the problem was: the footer is quite long too, and we didnt want the sliding navigation to reach into it, when scrolling down the footer. in other words: i had to stop the animation when the sliding nav reached the end of the main content.so far so good, i had NO idea how to tell the animation to stop at certain conditions, other than telling it that from the start.
my solution is totally workaround and completely selfmade. but i am SURE that there is some kind of "stop animation when condition is met"-command i was totally overlooking. so please dear jquery community: tell me what i am doing wrong, and how i could improve this function.
