In IE, the method of creating the popup that holds my application is window.showModalDialog. When I redirect the user via javascript with something as simple as, location.href='someURL'; another popup window is opened rather than just redirecting the browser. When a user is using anything other than IE, the window.open method is used and those browsers redirect within the same window appropriately.

I was doing something like this, it will popup a window, but I do not want to show the status, menubar, location, etc. The form is submitted to other site.

Feb 14, 2010Danged if I can find the thread, but I swear I saw a $.url() reference in here a day or two ago. It was beingutilized for parsing out the window.location or window.location.search parameters. I made a mental note because that was something I would be needing to do.
Now I can't find it, either because the search isn't finding it or I was dreaming about this function existing.
I rummaged about the API docs and didn't find it there either. Is it something provided by one of the plugins and not a function native to jQuery?

Feb 24, 2009how to rename/hide the title in the popup window. I found the below code from google. this code is working fine. Actualy I don't want to show the url to the user. Below code helps to hide the address bar. But still user can see the url in title bar. If I add the titlebar=no in the var feature then also it is showing the url in titlebar.

I open modal window A which is then opens modal window B, top of modal window B onload I do window.opener.close()". My issue now is when i'm finished with B I set parent window(main browser) to a new url with window.opener.location. So my problem is modal window A the parent has been closed so window.opener.location will not work.

Jan 22, 2010I am trying to dynamically open a popup window but ie8 blocks it with the popup blocker. basically within a ajax fuction I have a confirm button and if the user clicks yes it opens a popup window. now I tried it with a javascript function but it got blocked, so I have tried it by creating a form with a button in it and instead of calling the popup function direct I call document.form.button.click and in the form my button has onclick"popup('<? echo url; ?>')" but this also is detected as a unwarranted popup and is blocked.
now I understand that the popup blocker works when a popup is called without user interaction, but allows popups on say button clicks. how can I get the popup to work

Basically i need the menu to be collapsed to the first level initially. So only the User, Admin and Company User links are visible.
When these 1st level menu items are clicked the 2nd level sub menus need to be displayed when navigated to the 1st level index page and so on for the third level menus.
I need to be able to remember the location as well so the menu stays open on the correct page.
The annoying thing is that if i was allowed to do this in Coldfusion this would only take me a little while but i don't know much JavaScript therefore am a bit stuck. I am not allowed to use libraries either such as JQuery, MooTools
Another challenge is to style the 'active' link locations.
When you are at the first level the class of the anchor needs to be selected_bg.
When in a sub of said first level the class of that selected anchor needs to be selected_bg and the first level needs to change to selected.
For the third level both the above stays the same but then the third level takes the class of selectorThird when active.

because it makes the whole banner a link. If I do it this way:
<table><tr><td ><a href='http://URL' target='_blank'>text of banner...
only the text is the link and if someone puts their cursor over a non-text area they might no realize they can click on it.
In the second example, however, I use target='_blank' to open up a new window.
My question is, is there a way to use the first method and open a new window.

It works fine in ie6 on windows 98 and XP home but sometimes for users with XP professional it crashes ie6 (wants to send a error reports to microsoft and the closes)
I was wondering if it could be that professionals "mutil" processing causing a problem by 1 process excuting before the other?
