I have a table with td consisting of lists with <select></select>. When
I do a document.getElementById("element").innerHTML I don't see the
selected item. IOW, the innerHTML is not dynamic. Is there some way to
get the most recent selected without traversing through the list's
options.
I am having a problem accessing and element by ID in a script that runs via 'window.onload' at the end of all my script definitions. Do the HTML elements exist at that point or should I look somewhere else for a bug?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an an element that can successfully be retrieved by document.getElementById('id'),but when I attempt to alert(document.getElementById('id').innerHTML), the string is empty. Then, if I try to change the innerHTML like this:
document.getElementById('id').innerHTML += "new string", I get "unknown runtime error".The thing that bothers me is that the element can be gotten with getElementById, but its property innerHTML seems to be either blank or null when in fact, it contains HTML. By the way, this is all in IE. I have tested in FIrefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, and it works perfectly in those.
I want to restrict getElementById to search children of a specific element instead of searching the entire document, in the same way that I can do getElementsByTagName using a specific element as the parent.
In this particular instance the parent is a table and the elements I'm interested in are all TDs, so I did the basic getElementsByTagName('TD') off the table and looped through this array checking the IDs. However, I'm suspecting that the browser can do getElementById faster than I can do a loop in javascript. Is there a neater way to do this? For now, I'll settle for IE-only solutions, though it would be nice to have things work in generic browsers.
I have a little JS app that is a glorified calculator which I posted the code for below. My code uses the document object to replace the html in the "content" <div> and works great.However, I want to add an inline style in order to change the background of the input (readonly field with an id of "coutput") based on either of the global variables named "MJPD" or "IJPD", (depending on the switch case selected in the user prompt at the beginning of the script.)Simplified....if the value of MJPD is less than 4.6, I want the "coutput" field's background to be red, else be green.The same goes for IJPD, except the threshold for red will be <3.83.Code and what I have tried is below.

Ive got a small image of a power button and when pressed the inner section on the button changes to yellow, but when its pressed down Im also trying to get part of my H1 (main header logo title) to change to yellow.
Ive created a span with an id surrounding the letters of the H1 that I want to change, the id being : "power";
The javascript that I have come up with so far and works is as follows:

I understand Im not really supposed to be using inline JS, and I know Ive got to create a function for the onmousedown event to trigger changing the H1 text, so am I under the right impression that the JS so far written is redundant and will have to be re-written so thats contained within a script placed just before the closing </body> and an external script for invoking the main function ?
I keep getting an error stating "getElementById("ballElement") is null, but I have a div with that exact id. I have looked at the JS script before that line, but found no errors there either. Please take a minute to see if you find something.

I create an xml file in a text editor:

Why does xmlData.getElementById(Ƈ') return null and

I want to use the document.getElementByID method to change the text of an element.
It works and replaces the old text but the new text is lower down when I want the new text to be on the same line.

This javascript function is being invoked upon clicking on a link. The point is that the content's innerHTML is displayed beautiful while I cannot see H1 innerHTML. Its value is NULL instead of expected database value.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a situation where I'm trying to assign a value to an elements innerHTML. When I do this, the value is assigned, but it causes havoc on subsequent javascript calls.I realize this is kind of vague but I'm at my wits end on what to do. I've tried assigning the innerHTML value "NA", just plain text, and it has the same effect.Without being too confusing, I have a table of data inside a <div> where the user can navigate up/down by pressing the <enter> key, pg up/pg dn and arrow up/arrow down. When they move from record to record, I'm highlighting the new row and "de-highlighting" the old row. The row has many fields but only one fill in field which is where the user enters the quantity of the item to be ordered. This is on a local network using the Firefox browser.
Without the above line, all is well. When I use the above line, it messes up the highlighting of the row but also makes the fill-in field "appear" disabled. What I mean by that is when you type a number, you don't see the value change (even though the field has focus and the value is selected) but once you leave that line, the value you typed then appears in the fill in. Normally the value will change as you type a new value.
Is there a way I can make this code work:

Is this a problem with innerHTML not grabbing the correct data or the

I have a function which, using AJAX (No problem here, definitely returns data), returns a list of <OPTION> elements to the client. Using Javascript I am trying to re-populate a <SELECT> element with its children.
This process works perfectly for Firefox but with IE6 the <SELECT> list stays blank!!
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem is/might be using IE6? I have posted some sample code below..

As I said previously the return from AJAX call works fine as I have displayed the results using an alert(); method call and also this it works in Firefox.
I am dynamically building a part of my HTML page by setting the innerHTML of a DIV element. Immediately after I do that I try to retrieve the clientHeight and clientWidth of the DIV element in order to determine what height and width the element actually ended up being. But I always get 0 as both the height and width. The contents of the DIV, i.e. the HTML code that I inserted into it via the innerHTML, does indeed get displayed on the page. But I suspect that the browser doesn't actually update the page until AFTER my JavaScript code has completed and "returns control" to the browser.
Does that make sense? Is there any way I can force the browser to update the page BEFORE my code completes its processing, so that I can properly retrieve the width and height of the element I just inserted into the page?
i have a menu generated by a list with nested lists. i want the parent link to stay highlighted when the mouse hovers over the sub menus. because those sub menus are also generated by jquery (qtip), CSS alone won't do it (triedul.topnav li:hover a {background-color: #F00;}).is there a way to do this using jquery?
