View 3 RepliesI have changed minor things on the Dynamic Drive DHTML Tooltip V2 and now i have the problem that it isnt working anymore.
How to find the error in the Code?
The last two codebits are just to understand the first codebit. there are no error's in them.
I am trying to use Accordion Content script v1.7 from DynamicDrive.com on some pages. I have set up a test page to show the error messages. I have changed the doctype of the page several times, including the exact one they use on the sample/instruction page on DD, but no luck. It is also throwing an error of undefined var ddaccordion, which is defined in ddaccordion.js, which is the JS file that goes with sample page , which is located in the same directory.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a web page (offline) that accesses the user's CD drive to play an audio file on a CD. It uses this routine:
<OBJECT id=player1 height=64 width=160 classid=CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6>OBJECT>
</font><script type="text/javascript">
document.getElementById("player1").uiMode="full";
document.getElementById("player1").settings.autoStart=false;
document.getElementById("player1").settings.volume=50;
player1.URL=src="file:///"+YouWrote+":/Track01.cda";
</script>
That variable "YouWrote" (the CD Drive letter) is set by a cookie on the page - defaults to "D", but the user can change this, refresh the page, and access the audio in the correctly referenced drive.
Works well - if the page is resident in memory and refreshed if necessary.
My problem is if I put this page on a CD - that is, I want the page to load up from the CD drive - and there's only one drive - it doesn't work.
I can't seem to get the user to be able to choose the drive letter by setting the cookie (or even go with the default), then refresh the page, switch the CD with the Audio CD, and get Windows Media Player to find and play the Track01.cda file.
It chokes because the player says it can't play files with this extension. But it is obviously still thinking about the html file it loaded.
How do I disconnect the knowledge of the loadup CD in Windows Media Player's mind (assuming anything Windows has a mind)? Is there some obvious logical procedure I should follow and/or for the js script?
find the attached html that i am working on. this has 3 columns and the 3rd column is 'Show Comments' link. when I hover the link it should display the html page on top my existing page like a tooltip.
For Example: In this forum, when hovered on each topic, the topic description is displayed as tool-tip.
In order to make my site scalable (down to 1024x768), I need four layers to vertically scroll so that their contents doesn't force the main page to scroll. However, on higher resolutions, there'll be more space below the layers which means I don't necessarily want the layers to scroll if there's enough space to fit the text in.
I've tried CSS - I had to specify a height of 250px (the most I can use before main-page-scrolling takes effect in 1024x768) and set overflow: auto. The problem with this is that this is static formatting - no matter what resolution I use, the layers are always going to scroll because the height has been set to 250px.
So I was wondering if there's a way, either a CSS property/function (or maybe this can only be done in java script) - to make the layers scroll only if there's a risk of the main page scrolling?Or do I need to attack this with a crowbar and have a separate style sheet for every single resolution where I specify the height of the layers for each one?
Layer writing in Netscape. This is pretty straightforward >> However I'm trying to write to a <div> layer within a <div> layer.
My div:
Code:
<div id="blah">
<div id="aight">
</div>
</div>
I'm trying to write to "aight"
How should my code look?
I have created a floating layer using Javascript that remains always on top of page on scrolling.Issue is,at some point while scrolling,the layer flickers continuously.
The html page is as follows:
Many common software systems, JavaScript has a history of security problems. Many of these problems could allow a person with malevolent intent to steal sensitive information from a visitor. The number and type of such holes in security vary among browsers and operating system versions. Most JavaScript security holes have been caught and fixed, but new ones are being discovered all the time. For a list of current security holes check out your browser's and operating system's Web pages. As a Web site author, it is your responsibility to keep up-to-date on the current status of known security holes in the applications you create.
Signing Scripts. In Chapter 11, I explained that JavaScript does not provide the ability to directly access files on the client computer. This can be a very large hurdle to overcome if you're trying to upload a file to a server from the client computer. Fortunately, file uploading is one of many functional enhancements that signed scripts provide. Signed scripts are specially packaged scripts that have been verified and signed to be correct and non-threatening. These scripts have additional rights on the client computer that allow a programmer to do many things that he wouldn't otherwise be able to.
With the introduction of Netscape 4.0, a new security model was put in place that would allow digitally signed scripts to bypass some of the restrictions that had previously been placed on them. A signed script can request expanded privileges from the visitor and, with the visitor's permission, gain access to restricted data. A signed script requests these additional permissions through LiveConnect, which allows your JavaScript code to communicate with the Java Capabilities API. The security model allows JavaScript to access certain classes in Java in order to extend its functionality while still maintaining tight security for the client.
A digital signature is a fingerprint of the original programmer, and it allows the security model of the browser to detect where (or from whom) it originated. A script signer can be a person or an organization. By signing a script, you acknowledge yourself as the author and accept responsibility for the program's actions. A signed script contains a cryptographic checksum, which is just a special value that ensures the signed script has not been changed. When a digital signature is detected, you are assured that the code has not been tampered with since the programmer signed it.
Once you finish writing a script, you can use the Netscape Signing Tool to digitally sign it. Signing a script does the following:
Unambiguously assigns ownership of the script to a person or organization.
Allows an HTML page to use multiple signed scripts.
Places the signed script into a Java Archive (JAR) file.
Places the source of the script in the JAR file.
Once a user confirms the origin of the script and is assured that it has not been tampered with since its signing, he or she can then decide whether to grant the privileges requested by the script based on the validated identity of the certificate owner and validated integrity of the script.
JAVASCRIPT FILE IS AS FOLLOWS:
AND CSS FILE IS AS FOLLOWS:
At some point while scrolling,the div 'movable' flickers continuously,while at some other point,it is perfectly stable.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an html file I've built with embedded Javascript (using ActiveX) that successfully reads a file on my local hard drive when I run the html file through my web browser (IE) locally. However, when I copy the html page up to a webserver and access it through the internet, it doesn't appear to be reading the local file. I'm assuming this can't be done because of security reasons? Am I correct in that? Is there any way using Javascript/ ActiveX that you can get a webpage on the internet to access a file on the visitor's local drive?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI think I know the answer to this but I want to ask anyway. There are scores of pages on a particular website that I need to download so I can process them. They would all come down as XML files. I wrote a desktop app a while ago to do this but I was hoping to move this functionality to my website. This is an example of one of the pages I would download/copy:[URL]... A related question is... after I get all of these pages into a folder on my machine... I will need to point JQuery to the folder where they were copied and process each one. Does JQuery have a built in way to open a folder and capture all the files inside so they can be processed? I couldn't find anything like that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to scan files on a local hard drive using Javascript? I'm trying to create a GUI for a program using html and js. As such the html files will only be accessed from the local machine using Firefox. I would like to avoid using server-side scripts, as I want to use this on a computer without server software installed. My overall objective is I want the javascript to scan all files (data plots I've made) in a directory on the local machine. The JS would create a list of possible dates based on which files were found, the user would then select the date which would then display the corresponding plot.

I need to upload/read an xml from a local drive of any platform (linux, windows, mac) and synchronize it with my web server, which will then update my DB. Local xml file path is predefined and stored in my DB. This is part 1.Part 2, I will have to update the sync(ed) xml and replace the file on my local drive.Part 1 and part 2 will execute in sequence when the user click on a "Sync" button after logged in.Here is what I plan to use, PHP, MySQL, Javascript.What I know so far.1. Due to security reasons we cannot dynamically update the value of the input file type. So setting the known file location is not possible.I will like to know if there is anyway we can upload/read & overwrite a xml file without any middleware like adobe air that needs to be pre-installed to any of the platform to achieve what I plan to do?

How can I animate this car: driving from left to right of the screen? I imagine it starting on the outside of the wrapper border so top left 0 and ends top right 960px... When it hits top right corner can it then flip 180 degrees and drive back in the other direction? Also how can I do it in jquery for the browsers that don't support the CSS3? I was also wondering if you click on the car could some flames shoot out the exhaust which makes it drive faster??

I am trying to make a banner the size of the with of my screeen, in
a layer.
BUt I also want to fade it to a complete transperency to reveal the contents
of what's behind it (my page ofcourse) and possible close or hide the faded
layer.
I've seen stuff like that happen in a flash everonment. I was thinking about
using a transition at first to go from one page to another with an
introductory page.
But I rather have everything on one page and just fade the introdutory layer
into the page. Is that too much work for jscript?
I have a strange behaviour when applying onmouseout to a layer. it is
not trigged when the pointer goes out of the _layer_ but when it goes
off the _text within_ the layer.
I want to create a layer that 100% wide, 200 px high and stays at the
bottom of the screen, even when the page is scrolled, how do I do this?
I have seen it on websites but can't find any example code ...
Can someone please tell me how to print a single layer?
