Disable Part Of Webpage
Jan 26, 2007
I am designing a webpage making use of ajax. When the user is asked to input information, a div appears in the middle of the screen with a form. Is there a way to disable the rest of the webpage behind this div? I know on live spaces (spaces.live.com) when you are editing your space prompts come up similar to what I am trying to do. Do you know how they do that? Do they use a different method?

I am trying to create a Google Translate widget on my webpage, with just one language pair, Latin to English. Unfortunately the Google Translate AJAX API only supports a subset of all languages available, and Latin is not included. However, Latin IS included on the Google Translate website. Apparently languages that are in beta are available there, via a different server, while only fully released languages are available via the AJAX Translate API.a) I wrote a script that generated the XMLHttpRequest() call to the server the Google Translate website uses, but it always returned a '0' status code. I have since found out that this is normal, as these kinds of calls can only be made between pages on the same server.b) I then wrote a script that created a popup, and used the baseURL+params for the URL, , and this produced a pop-up window containing the translation result. However, as that page came from a different server to the server containing the script, I could not access the results on it. The code for that is here:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
[code]....

It doesn't work. Should the first instruction be flushed in order for the 2nd one to work?

I am trying to display a webpage from another domain and tried to access its elements and I am facing issues with this.
I tried using "iframes" and am facing cross domain issues.
All that I want to do is, set and get the attributes of the elements of the webpage from the other domain (eg: set text field value, get dropdown box values, click button etc)
Is there a way to get this job done?
I thought of browser addons however it will be a browser specific solution.

Could anyone know the script code for a WEBPAGE ON TOP OF A WEBPAGE? The site was not working anymore, so I can't tell you the link. This is what I saw, When I visited the site (Mainpage) There's just a Welcome Image that shows CLICK HERE TO ENTER. After clicking the link, a loading faded icon appears on top of Welcome Image covering that Welcome Image with Webpages, it's like popping to the center of the page. I don't know if someone of you could understand me. It's like Page on TOP of another Webpage without leaving the 1st page.

I have a little problem and I hope that I need to get the path of the URL except for the first slash "/". Now if I use window.location.pathname I get an output like this: /about/about/9081ae1b02/
That is almost right but I need to get rid of the first slash (marked in red) so I get: about/about/9081ae1b02/

I've got an idea for simplifying my code and avoid a bunch of switch functions but don't know how, though I assume it's possible.

Given the following standard jQuery code to .get() a (valid) .xml file: $.get(file)
[Code]...
This is exactly what I need, it'll get me the complete XML document structure, including all nodes and texts. If I have this as a string I can then use $.parseXML() to convert this (back) into a XML document.

I'm sure this is probably a simple question, but I'm going to ask anyway. I need to extract part of a URL and place it into a variable for use elsewhere on the page. The part to be extracted will be of varying lengths.
As an example, if I have the following [URL] I need to extract "SS". Basically, anything that appears between "static.nsf/" and "/Steve's_APT_test_page". That value needs to be put into a variable and called elsewhere on the page. For testing purposes, I'm using the following code, just to see if it works (which, so far, it doesn't):
<script type= type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
var page_url = window.location.href;
var segments = page_url.split("/");
alert(segments[4]);
</script>

I have a situation in which I have to track clicks (links etc..). The problem is, I have a larger div ie - parentDiv - like 300px height, 400px width - approximate. This div has a background image. Now, the issue arises because over this div (parentDiv), I have another div "announceDiv" on top of it showing information.
I ONLY want the parts of parentDiv that is NOT covered by announceDiv to be clickable. Just to reiterate, I have a big div that I want clickable (so I can add a link to the click), but over this big div I have a smaller div showing content ie, information, that links to its own stuff. BUT I want to be able to link from this background image that is in the parentDi without affecting when I click in the smaller div that is superimposed over it.

I have a bit of a problem and as my javascript is a rather poor I'm struggling to come up with a solution. Basically I need to split the variable "#country" into two parts and call the second half as the "this" value for '#int-dc'. Using '+' as the start point end ending at the end of the string.
For instance 'this' returns 12+44 I want to split it to "12" and "+44" the latter (+44) replacing 'this' in the code below.
$(function() {
$("#country").change(function() {
$("#int-dc").val
($(this).val());
});
});

I have some own cursor with a .cur file. But it's very annoying to try changing each part from the css to the new cursor. Is there no aviable script in JS or HTML or CSS or whatever there is, that i can press the link for all cursor like: Pointer, defaut, wait, stop, link and so on. So they all changes into my own? Without having those white cursor.
