Conflict Between Query-part Of Url And Visited-state Of Url

Jul 23, 2005

I have links on an index page like this:

<a href="link" onclick="DoOnClick('link')"> page title </a>

-where the DoOnClick("link")
just adds a query part to the url before executing:

location.href = "link?query";

( this is done in order to maintain certain state information
--(instead of using cookies.))

I also use something like this:

a.link { ...different... }
a.visited { ...colors... }
a.hover { ...for each of these... }

in a css file for the index pages,
in order to distinguish the already-visited page-links.

The problem is that it's not working right.

It works with JavaScript disabled,

But with JavaScript enabled, it's only the
first-clicked page link that gets marked as having
been visited. Subsequent pages don't get marked.

Apparently the full "link?query" is being put
in the browser history, - not "link".

And since "link?query" doesn't match exactly any "link"
on the page, --none of them get marked as having been visited.

( However, - the really odd thing, - is that it does work
-right -- in my local mirror of the site!
(--I'm using the latest IE browser.)

Anyway, my question is,
can anyone think of a way around this?

Perhaps by somehow using the JavaScript's "history" object to force recording of "link" instead of, or in addition to, "link?query", in the user's visited-link history, --so that they'll all get marked as such on the index pages?

Toggle State - Trigger Open State From Id Based URL?

Jul 21, 2011

To say I'm new to JavaScript is a bit of an understatement so bear with me. I have a site set up with a variety of layers of toggles. When you enter the site all of the items are collapsed and you click the headings to expand. Each of the toggle-able items have ids. It works great for users who start at the homepage.

However, when I send people to any of the inner topics, all they see is the initial collapsed state of the site. I want to be able to provide a URL that will set the toggle to open, and show all of the content for that section on entry.

Here is my code and js, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Firefox Visited Link Issue

Jul 29, 2004

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but it didn't seem to fit anywhere else!

I have the folowing test page: [index.html]

<html>
<body>
<form id="go" method="post" action="page2.html">
<a href="java script:;"* here 1</a>
<a href="java script:;"* here 2</a>
</form>
</body>
</html>

*"java script:;" should not have the space, but for some reason if you don't use the space it comes out "javascript:;"

In IE if you click the link "Click here 1", and then return to this page it will mark the link that you clicked as visited (and leave the other unvisited even tho it goes to the same place, which is nice) but if you do the same in Firefox it will not mark the link as visited, which is rather frustrating. Does any one know if it is possible to get the clicked link marked as visited in firefox?

Creating A Visited Link In The Nav Section Of A One Page Website?

Oct 5, 2010

Anyone know how I can change the color of a text link on a page that doesn't load a new page, but rather stays on the same page?The nav links already use an onClick to present content below it that changes depending on what link in the nav I select. In other words, there's already two things going on -- links take you to content on the same page using a JS onClick.What I want to add to that is when you click on the link, it changes style, like turns bold or changes color. So then the user knows that not only have they selected new content, but the link they selected stands out as well.

JQuery :: Turn On An 'inactive-state' CSS Class For A Group Of Divs, Then Reset One Div To The 'active-state' Class?

Feb 2, 2011

I am attempting to make a menu that has a background image that changeswhen you rollover or click a menuitem. I've got the hover effect working fine with CSS, but am trying to implement the click event via jquery with the following:

CSS:
div.SustainResourcesMenuTabs
{ background-image: url('/images/departments/commdev/sustainability/menu_tab.jpg');
}[code]....

My process is to reset the entire menu to the inactive state, then switch on the active state for the item that was clicked. Eventually, the item that was clicked will display its corresponding body section as well. I've tried using the CSS pseudo-class "active", but since the entire div is the link, that is unavailable. I've also tried multiple variations of addClass/removeClass, toggleClass, and setAttribute/removeAttributebut nothing hasworked so far.

Embedd An Address Navigation Bar On Top Of Pages Visited From Root Site?

Sep 2, 2010

I have what some would identify as a Kiosk machine running a browser in full screen(true full screen, no address bar visible). It serves as an internet cafe machine, with unique users and a login system.

What I'm looking to do is when the user leaves the root site (via clicking a button), to embed a frame at the top of the page with an address navigation bar, so I can track the time the user spent browsing. I'm exclusively using firefox, and I'm not concerned with support for such functionality in other browsers.

I assume I can achieve this with javascript, jquery, or ajax, I'm just not sure which to start with and how to begin planning the execution.

How To Set Link's "visited" Property/pseudo-class Without Clicking On The Link

Apr 27, 2007

I would like to set the link's "visited" pseudo-class with javascript
without clicking on the link. My goal is to update the link's color
(previously set in the CSS file) to be "visited" without actually
clicking on the link and then clicking "back" in the browser.

Does anyone know how? Here are the following things I've already
tried to no avail:

var obj = document.getElementById("idOfMyLink");

//obj.visited=true; // NO
//obj.style.visited=true; // NO
//obj.click(); // NO, performs a click and takes me away from
current page

/*
// Setting the src of an iframe on the same page, trying to
"stuff" this URL into browser's "History"

var theFrame = document.getElementById("myiframe");
theFrame.src = obj.href;

// NO. The iframe does go to correct URL, but the link's color
doesn't update.*/Any ideas?

SVG And Dragging Div Overlap Conflict?

Jan 25, 2007

I have an SVG file and draggable div on one page. When I move div over
this SVG file, it looks like div loses control and detaches from the

being over SVG.

I tried assigning zIndex to SVG file to be the same as other elements
on the page, but that did not help. Would anyone know why this happens?

AddEventHandler / AddEvent Conflict

Jul 20, 2005

AI have a generic script to handle events. (NN/IE only)

function addEvent(elementObject, eventName, functionObject)
{
if(document.addEventListener)
elementObject.addEventListener(eventName, functionObject, false);
else
if(document.attachEvent)
elementObject.attachEvent("on" + eventName, functionObject);
}

Now, what I wanted to do was pass a parameter to the functionObject, but
this is apparently not possible.
How can I determine what object caused the event in the functionObj?
FWIU, the "this" object is fine in NN, but in IE, it refers to window.

addEvent(document.getElementById("myE"),"click",myFunction);
function myFunction()
{

// I need a reference to document.getElementById("myE") or whatever
object triggered this function to be called }

Javascript Callback/Object Conflict

Sep 2, 2006

I have the following Javascript code

function Obj()
{
obj.squares = new Array();
}
Obj.prototype.Load= function(xdoc)
{
var goat = "head";
xdoc.ProcessNodes("squares/square", function(node)
{
alert(goat); // <-- this works fine
this.squares.push(
// do processing on node, create a square
);
});
}

Now the xdoc is another object I have, with a method called
ProcessNodes. The only important thing to know about ProcessNodes is
that it does some things, and calls its second argument (which is a
function) successively.

The problem I am running into here is once I get into the callback
function, "this.squares" is returning null ... even though it has been
initialized to an Array. For whatever reason, its like the object loses
scope when I get into the callback function. For all other intents and
purposes however, the callback function has the same scope as the
calling block (i.e. the goat variable is still accessible).
