I have a number of elements of "some-class".
I'd like to change the styles of some-class:
from
..some-class{color: red; display: block}
to
..some-class{color: red; display: none}
How do I do that?

I currently have a normal link like Code:<a href="http://sitepoint.com" class="link">sitepoint</a> and when a user clicks on it I want to be able to change the "link" class to a different class. However, I don't want to add anything to the actual link html. Is it possible to do this using javascript without modifying the original link code?

I'm trying to make a webpage where you can change the colour of various elements within the page, which has numerous div classes in the css and numerous divs all with different names. What I'm trying to work out and can't find anywhere is can you change the properties of a css class using javascript, and if so, how?

OK, I have a table, where I have ID'd the headers as such:

Now, when I click on the header row, I would like to hide a column, and when I click on an image, I'd like to restore it. Ideally, I would have a function like such:

item.css.visibility="hidden";

However, I don't know how to pass the item along. Like telling it to hide col2, etc, etc.

I am embedding Spidermonkey in a C app. and I'm having trouble setting
class (not instance) property values. For example, I am setting up

The above code correctly (verified through a JavaScript program). creates a new class with the Prop1 class property.
The following code correctly adds an _instance_ property:
jsval val = INT_TO_JSVAL(42);
JS_SetProperty(cx, proto, "MyProp2", &val);
After three days I still can't figure out how to set the value of the class
property, or, for that matter, create a new class property with a particular value. I am looking to do something like this:
jsval val = INT_TO_JSVAL(88);
JS_SetProperty(cx, ???, "Prop1", &val);

I need to change the background-image (or possibly background-position) property of each new instance of a div with a particular class. I will have a set of images to choose from, or could create a sprite with all of the images.
Example:
Code:
<div class="desc">content</div> **needs background-image: url(pic1.jpg)
<div class="desc">content</div> **needs background-image: url(pic2.jpg)
...
etc.
The page code is dynamically generated from our CMS, so can't change the HTML.

I have a billion elements that all share the same class. I have another billion elements that all share another class. This cannot be changed. My objective is to use one element to trigger onclick a change in the others elements' css properties, that is each element is paired with another, producing a billion unique pairs. From hours of deciphering the cryptic documentation examples ive come up with the following, which doesnt work. Assume that im using "name=item#" in the element's tag to identify each pair.
One fundamental issue with this is that it will change the opacity of both elements in the pair were both elements to share a name,or it will only affect the element being clicked on if not, but i only want it to change the opacity of the element that isnt being clicked. Another issue is that there are instances where i may need to set a setTimeout on a css property, and ive not found any documentation on integrating javascript and jquery together within a function.So how do i get this function to accept input from one element and affect the css properties of the other? And what would a setTimeout look like if it were placed around the opacity property?

i'm looking for the best way to use global properties that defined at class level insid event handler functions.
for example :

actually, in link1Handler 'this' returns to link1 not to main class. so how to get class properties or functions inside the private functions of the same class?

I have some script like this:
// simplified to remove all the try/catches & stuff
function newXHR() {
request = new XMLHttpRequest();
XMLHttpRequest.prototype.requested = null;

}
then later:

var req = newXHR();
req.requested = url;
// et cetera....
}
This works fine in Firefox, however the line 'req.requested = url' causes an error in IE7, (I haven't tested IE6 yet). The error is 'Object doesn't support this property or method'
So, this leads me to believe that either a) XMLHttpRequest.requested is not writable, or, b) XMLHttpRequest.requested was never created in the first place. I think it's the first option because I'm not getting an error in the newXHR() function.
I've been searching for some documentation on this but I can't seem to find anywhere if properties created with the prototype keyword are writeable in IE. Does anyone know what the problem is?

how the class attribute works in CSS: I can specify that every attribute with class="foo" be italicized with: .foo {font-style: italic;}
What if I want to do the same sort of thing in Javascript? Is there something built-in like document.GetElementsbyClass("foo").style = "italic" (I'm just making this code up of the top of my head, I don't know how javascript works.)
It seems to me that with JavaScript you're supposed to use the name="" attribute instead of class="". Why the diference?
I looked at webmonkey that had an article about this, but their writing style is simply confusing and I can't make heads or tails of their articles.

I need to change dynamically how a class is displayed, my site (with out going into detail) interprets saved info from the user (its saved through perl) in a *.js file, then views it through template *.htm files drawing on js files after loading.
The thing is I need to allow for several settings like font type size and color, (things that could be held in style sheets) but then save in their js file a number representing this and load it when the template page is opened.
I have two possibilities to answer this
1, instead of using classes I could use Ids - but using 1 id for what could (hypothetically) be an endless string of elements seems real messy, I don't even know if it would work.
2, I read somewhere I could dynamically generate style tags with the classes defined, but I can't find where I read this..

I need to change the class of the 'a' tag within the li that has the nested ul e.g

I have the following: <div class="unselected" >content</div>
I want to change unselected into selected when calling a function. The ways I'm finding to do a class name change is using a clicking:

I would really love some sort of javascript observer to automatically add/remove a class to the labels on my page, depending on wether their checkboxes are checked or not. As well as adding those same CSS-classes to the checkboxes already checked on document load.This would be possible in javascript, wouldn't it?

I am making a little tool for a client of mine, which will include a very large list. Now in PHP I've written that is should divide everything in the letters of the alphabet. So Now I have a list from A through Z, but I want it collapsed, else you would still have a very large list. I want my javascript to change a class name from 'folded' to 'unfolded' so css can do its job hiding and showing the list. See below code (you can change things if you like):

how to add extra properties to html elements as I was storing data in html attributes. After looking at some others code including Raphael and this addEvent code. [URL] They seem to treat objects just like an array. obj[property] = value; This would have been extremely helpful to know previously as I have needed to be able to include variables in property names - but have resorted to making the whole thing a string and calling exec() on it.

I've got a list of modules, and when I click on one of them it expands displaying the content. When you expand them, a little image on the right changes from a down arrow (v) to an up arrow (^), but it's changing on all of the modules rather than just the one.
