Validation Form To Only Allow Alpha Characters And Space
Apr 18, 2011With the code I had to acknowledge nothing had been inserted,(that is, still spaces, it was working. When I added the code to only accept alpha chars etc., I inserted numbers, nothing worked, with no error message. Would you, or can I send the whole code through for the form. I noticed that the form tags had been changed so I altered them as well according to your message.

Unfortunately, the forms include selection lists that often have SELECT names with white spaces included, and these do not work when passed as a variable to the frmvalidator function
This works:
frmvalidator.addValidation("Country","dontselect=0");
This does not work:
frmvalidator.addValidation("My Country","dontselect=0");
The site I want to use the script on is being database generated and has something like 25,000 item pages, each with several SELECT list options. The Option variable uploaded to the database looks like:

Is there some way to make names with white spaces work? I could switch to a script that simply checks all selection lists to make sure that option 0 is not selected. But I love all the other features of name, format and combined verification in the above script. Unfortunately, the script relies on the name and validation action of each form element being passed to its function onSubmit.

The odd thing is, it will work if you type in a space followed by a character, but if you type in one space, or one space followed by x number of spaces, it just lets it through like it's valid. But yet when I look at the demos and examples that I pulled this from, they never let those scenarios go through.

The reason for this is that this RegExp also pulls out special characters such as "ó" and "ñ". I'm not certain, but I think it would also remove all double-byte characters such as various Asian-language words.Has anyone run into this problem and have they found a simple coding solution to catch all non-English special characters?

Jul 18, 2009We have been using the following js/regex to find and replace all non-alphanumeric characters apart from - and + outputString = outputString.replace(/[^w|^+|^-]*/g, "");
However it doesn't work entirely - it doesn't replace the ^ and | characters. I can't help but wonder if this is something to do with the ^ and | being used as meta-characters in the regex itself.
I've tried switching to use [W|^+|^-], but that replaces the - and +. I thought that possibly a lookahead assertion may be the answer, but I'm not very sure how to implement them.

1) The field need to be between 6 and 12 characters
2) It can only have letters, numbers, and the underscore
3) It cannot contain a space or other special characters
I want the validate to happen in real-time. I have the first rule working great. Here is the code for that:

If the div id="3" then when I alert it it works right but if the div id="post_3" then I get an alert of "object HTMLdivElement"
The javascript is simple(so far)

Space In REGEX In IE6
May 9, 2007I was using the following code:
element.value = element.value.replace(/ /g,'');
to remove all the spaces in a string.
However in IE6 it complained with and "Expected ')'" error.
How can I tell IE6 to replace just spaces (i.e. not using s)?
I tried / / and /[ ]/ but neither of them worked either.
