I'm trying to develop fast, simple, html-based front ends
for some Windows application programs. My idea:
1. Use html forms to let users supply run parameters (title,
run options, etc.)
2. When the user presses a submit button:
a. The selected options for all the form fields are
written to an external file (e.g., c:projectinput.txt)
b. The application program, say, prog.exe, is executed.
This program then reads the run parameters from the file
input.txt and proceeds. Code:

I am trying to write a simple javascript function that locates a parameter in a url, if it is present, and replace it with a different value. Here's my code:
function setParam(url,param,value) {
var a = '&'+param+'=d+';
var new_url = url.replace(new RegExp(a), '');
new_url = new_url + '&'+param+'='+value;
return new_url;
}
The problem is, it doesn't work. It adds the new param, value pair to the old url, but the old param isn't replaced. What do I need to do here to make this work?

I'm trying to make a countdown timer, it works fine if I define the value myself from where it has to start. However, when I try to take output from the user it says undefined and 'Nan'.Basically my problem is that if I give c a value like c = 30. it works fine. But when I try to take the input , it gives an undefined error.

I am slowly working through learning/writing a JS project.here is the core issue.:
var pt =<? echo json_encode($prt);?>
alert(pt) // for diagnostic purposes
json is flattening the PHP array to be used in the script.However, the alert shows me that I only get {[ ,which is just before the first set of double quotes.JS quits at the double quotes, leaving me with an undefined array.How do I fix this?

I am trying to create a script that will cover cross-browser limitations in adding event listeners to elements. I have found plenty of resources to add a listener but can't find any way of assigning a function containing arguments. Here is what I have so far:
/* Attach events regardless of browser */
function addEvent(obj, evType, fn)
{
if (obj.addEventListener)
{
obj.addEventListener(evType, fn, false);
return true;
}
else if (obj.attachEvent)
{
var r = obj.attachEvent("on"+evType, fn);
return r;
}
else
{
return false;
}}
/* Contains all attachments to be made on page load */
function load()
{
item = document.getElementById('toggleControl');
addEvent(item, 'click', toggle);
item = document.getElementById('alertLink');
addEvent(item, 'click', runAlert);
}
/* Add event to page load and assign load() function */
addEvent(window, 'load', load);
The actual functions for toggle and runAlert are in a seperate .js file, but are standard functions. the problem is that I can't find a way to perform the equivalent of:
item = document.getElementById('toggleControl');
addEvent(item, 'click', toggle('toggleID'));
It simply does not work.

My page accepts a url with various parameters passed in querystring. One of the parameter is the URL of the Image I wish to display on the page. I save this URL in a variable "imagesource"

Now here's my code:
function foo(){

I am totally new to jQuery and no good knowledge on javascript. However, I was assigned a task, to convert a javascript program to jQuery due to compatibility problem on browsers like Chrome and Safari. My program originally use javascript xmlDoc.load('....') to read XML file, and then use document.write statement to write html tables on client side. Something like this (the sample below may got lots of syntax problem as I jut want to show the major part):
Code:
document.write('<TABLE >');
var y=x[0].getElementsByTagName('NoOfRows');
for (i=0; i<=noofrows-1 && i<=y.length-1; i++){
document.write(' <TD>');
document.write(z[j].getElementsByTagName('RecordDetails')[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue;
}
Now I changed to use jQuery, I can read the XML file elements. However, when I try to write the table, it failed:

Why doesn't this work? The input field doesn't show up at all. I know I'm just missing something really simple here.
<script type="text/javascript">
day = day.getDay()+1;
month = day.getMonth()+1;
year = day.getYear();
newdate= month + '/' + day + '/' + year;
document.write('<INPUT name=Date value='+ newdate + '>');
</script>

I have a client that has ads on her website that really slow down the site. These ads are called by an off site javascript file and I want to use a jQuery(document).ready or similar method to call these files after all of the site content has loaded. But these files contain document.write functions to add more javascript files. Since I want to load the files after everything else has loaded, this in turn makes the page blank and then loads the ad. Is there a way to position where document.write will write to?

I'm pretty new to JavaScript and am having a problem. I thought what I am doing should work but it isn't.
Basically I have a form that people can put a quantity into. e.g. A, B, C.
I have a JavaScript function called comput that assigns values e.g. A = 5, B = 7, C = 9. Here is the start of the script:
<script language="JavaScript"><!--
function compute(form){
var A = form.A.value * 5;
var B = form.B.value * 7;
var C = form.C.value * 9;
I then declare a variable to add them up:
var ans = A+B+C;
return;
}
</script>
This part of the script works fine. Now I want to write the ans variable. So I use:
<script>
<!--
document.write ("Your total is "+ans+"")
// --></script>
But it isn't working. Any ideas?

I'm brand new to JavaScript, and sometimes I accidentally use syntax from C++ or PHP when writing, so it could be something as simple as that. I just can't figure it out.

I have the source code to an old BASIC program that a friend of mine
would like to run online. I am a beginner at JS, but I think that it
would be a good choice for the project. My background is in C/C++ and
web development.
Any suggestions that might get me off to a good start here? I can
provide more information if needed, but I am not sure what would be
helpful. The program is 550 lines in what appears to be BASIC and is a
calendar conversion program. You give it a date and it will convert it
into one of many other date reckoning systems (Gregorian, Hebrew,
Egyptian, etc, etc).
