What Is My Browser Sending To The Host Site ?

Jul 20, 2005

I won't lie to you. I'm trying to get data from html source from a 3rd
party website. I'm NOT interested in stealing code,hacking,sending
spam or anything sinister like that. I just want the content that is
displayed but I need to get it automatically via VB. It's only
publicly available price information but I don't think the website
wants everyone to be scraping their info into a database.

Apart from the base URL, the site concerned navigates solely through
javascript functions and session variables. I suppose what I'm asking
is, is there anything out there that tells me (the syntax) of what my
browser is actually sending to a website when I click a javascript
toolbar/button/dropdown within IE.

Using Javascript To Determine If File Exists On Host Site

I'm new to javascript and PHP and I am wondering if there is a method or function to capture a 404 error in the event a particular html file cannot be found. I want to redirect that error to another page or design the code to send me an email telling me what page was selected and not found. In other languages I can trap such an error and respond to it.

Cross Browser Dynamic Navigation For Site?

Mar 30, 2010

I am trying to find the simplest, most cross-browser friendly dynamic navigation for my site. I tried to use a CSS version (Suckerfish) and it worked ok but it destroyed the formatting I had. I would really like to implement this kind of dropdown on my main navigation so users don't have to click and wait for a page to load. If possible, I'd like very few lines of code. That's why the CSS option was good... there was very little javascript.

Centering Left Aligned Site In Browser?

Nov 4, 2009

I'm using a javascript to center my absolutely-positioned left-aligned site. However, it's not perfectly centered in the browser and I'd like to fix it. I set the width to 788px (embedded Div Layout CSS). Here is the link to the site: [URL]

Below is the javascript code:
window.onresize=positionPage;
String.prototype.trim = function() { return this.replace(/^s+|s+$/, ''); };
function positionPage(){
Width = 0;
if(window.innerWidth){
Width = window.innerWidth;
}if(document.body.clientWidth){
Width = document.body.clientWidth;
}Left = Math.floor((Width - 992) / 2);
if(Left > 0){
document.getElementById("Div-Layout").style.left = Left + "px";
}}
<!--
function MM_reloadPage(init) {
//reloads the window if Nav4 resized
if (init==true) with (navigator) {
if ((appName=="Netscape")&&(parseInt(appVersion)==4)) {
document.MM_pgW=innerWidth; document.MM_pgH=innerHeight;
onresize=MM_reloadPage; }}
else if (innerWidth!=document.MM_pgW
|| innerHeight!=document.MM_pgH) location.reload();
}
MM_reloadPage(true);

JQuery :: Create A Site That Allows For Images To Go Full Browser And Then Have The Ability To Have The Other Images Slide In Based On A Click?

Mar 9, 2010

I prefer jQuery over flash and not sure how to tackle this, so please advise as best you can. Trying to create a site that allows for images to go full browser and then have the ability to have the other images slide in based on a click.

I also want to float a menu that will allow it to pull in other media (video, that would slide in the same way). The best example I can share is this: http://j.mp/5U79i1 What he is using is flash based (slideshowpro director and slideshow pro for flash). Not interested in flash for this personal project.

Deny Exit From Site, Or Force Exit In New Browser Window

i've got a bunch of webaplications in use that the users have open in a browser all day. and so far every thing is perfecto. my problems start when the user during the day get emails with links in them... being humans they click those links and some times they "loose" the webaplication from the original browser. this also happens of course when they use their bookmarks etc.

what i would like is to include a javascript that forces a new browser window wtih the new url & leaves the original site as-is if a url is sent to the browser.

Timed Webpage Refresh, Using Host Time

Aug 24, 2011

I'm embarking on a new project - although I've hit a wall.

I require a page to refresh at a scheduled date and time, several times a day.

For example, I would like the web page to reload the index at 3:15PM

So if anyone has the web page open during that time, it will automatically refresh for them.

Timing is quite important so I would need the script to use the server (hosts) time and not the end users time.

I am currently deciding on which server language to use, although Javascript is probably a suitable option? or would ajax be more the thing for this?

The webpage must execute the refresh at the time 3:15pm, so no matter when someone visits the page, even if its hours before, it must refresh at that time.

If anyone has any pointers on the best way to achieve this and what language to start with I am forever greatful :thumbsup:

I do a lot of image design work and although I have worked with a few coders in the past but I haven't gone too much into coding myself, but its something I'm going to take time to learn and get involved in, so I'm not looking for script hand outs here, mainly just a nudge in the right direction.

Can JS Suss Out "on-site" Vs Off-site HTTP Requests?

Dec 5, 2006

this may be more of an "html" issue, but I'll wing it.

i've got a multi-language site, where the home-page of each language group
features a link to a popup window that offers background info on site
management. the popup is fired by a javascript function, when they click
the site management link. there's also a "window close" function button so
they can nuke it as they please.

now, oddly, people who search for my site in the chinese language on google,
are sent directly to the site management popup window, which of course,
opens in their "full" browser window, and which also has no links back to
the main site, because it's meant to open only as an "accessory" to the main
site.

my question is this: is there any way, with Javascript, that I could
determine if they arrived at this window from "off-site" (ie, a google
search), and therefore offer such "off-site" visitors a link back to the
principal site, a link that would be hidden for visitors who clicked the
popup window from my own site?

Posting Data From A Form On My Site To A Form On Someone Else's Site:

Feb 25, 2006

Basically, I registered for a free board at one of the various sites because my server doesn't support .cgi scripts. I want to know if there is a way to have the data from a form on my site post to the board site -A user would fill in my form, click submit, and a new post would appear on the board site -as if they had entered it there.
If you can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful. Here is my thinking.

A) I can't locate the script that they use to perform a "submit"; so I thought I might enter their <head> data (as far as xmlns, href, etc) in my <head>; that my website might call up their script files, css sheets, etc.

B)I could code my own Javascript function to send my form data to their site. If I knew how to simulate a mouseclick on someone else's site, I could have the script "click" there, paste the data, and hit the submit button. But I don't.

C) I could size their site down to the form itself and put it in a frame on my page

Option C is clearly easier, but I would prefer option A or B. I have time and will happily do the research myself; provided that I know if approach A or B is even feasible.
