Way To Add Css Class / Id To Element When Matched With Another

Jul 25, 2010

I've got a scenario where i've got a list of text names on a page and a rotating gallery of images. Each image relates to one of the names. What i would like to do is highlight the name by adding a css class or id when the related image comes into focus.

I'm sure i can do this by using the rel element to relate to the id of the image (or the other way round!) but i'm not sure exactly how. I presume it's using jquery live and matching with selectors.

I'm using jquery and the galleria plugin.

JQuery :: Getting Only Matched Element With Clone

Feb 22, 2010

I'm a starter in using jQuery and I decided to work my way through the 'Learning JQuery' book from packt.Somewhere in Chapter 5 they use the clone() function with the false attribute. The JQuery version used in the book is 1.1.3a. With the clone(false) method the writer can clone only the matched element and not the descendants. And that works in 1.1.3a.I know that this is no longer the case in JQuery 1.4. Boolean is only for Event Handlers.But what is the new equivalent of this method? In other words. How can I clone an element with only the matched element and not it's descendants?

JQuery :: Select Every Nth Element From A Matched Set?

Mar 24, 2011

I know you can use :even or :odd to get the even or odd indexes from a set, or :lt/:gt to filter down the matched set before/beyond the specified index. But what if I want to select every 5th element? And I know it's not nth-child, because that selects everything that is the nth-child of it's parent and not if it is one of the nth elements in the matched set. Is the only way to use .each(function (index) {...}); and then check if the index makes that element one of the nth items?

JQuery :: Event.target - Click Anchor As Matched Element

Jun 1, 2010

consider the following code;

$("#content").click(function(event)
{
if($(event.target).is('a'))
{
$(this).//do something
}
}

I'm binding a click event to a div so that I can see whether is was the div or some element inside the div that has been clicked. When the if() in my code evaluates to true $(this) is still equal to $("#content") whereas I'd like to have the clicked anchor as matched element. How would I do this?

Set Dom Element Class (if Element Was Dynamically Created)

Jan 25, 2006

hi everybody, didn't find this using the search :( this is my problem:
i create a dom element dynamically (<span>) and want to assign a class
attribute to it such that it has some css style, this works in ie, but
not in firefox :( here's the simple code:

<div id="somediv"></div>

var div = window.document.getElementById("somediv");
var span = window.document.createElement("span");
span.innerHTML = "span";
span.attributes.getNamedItem("class").nodeValue = "span_class";
div.appendChild(span);

so this works well in ie6, but firefox gives this error:
Error: span.attributes.getNamedItem("class") has no properties

if i run this code on a statically defined span (in the html file),
where a class attribute already is set:

<div id="somediv">
<span id="spanspan" class="">
</span>
</div>

changing the class to "span_class" works both in ie and firefox.

how can i fix my above code such that it works in both browsers? it
seems that on newly created dom elements the class attribute isn't even
there (to change it), how can i create it, and then change it?

Dynamically Set CSS Class Of An Element?

Apr 15, 2009

I have a menu div that I have styled so that is always visible on my page. When a user clicks a menu item they are taken to that section of that page using an anchor withing the page but the menu remains visible/constant to the left of the screen

My menu is made up of a number of vertically displayed tab images (set by assigning the background image of a href in css), what I would like to happen is that when a user navigates to an anchor section the background image for that section be changed to a 'current tab' image.

Usually this would be done by setting the class of that menu item to "current" within that page, for example if the menu navigated to a seperate about.html page for the about menu item set:

<a href="about.html" id="menu_about" class="current">about<div>
#menu a.current{
background-position:0 -50px;
}

However on my page different pages (eg about.html) wont be loaded so what I would like to be able to do is dynamically set the 'class="current"' for the href element when a user clicks that link.

I tried the following but it didnt work:

<a href="home.html" class="home" id="home" onclick="document.getElementById("home").className="current";"><span class="nav-text">home</span></a>

JQuery :: Removing A Class From A Nth Element?

Oct 27, 2011

I have table that has four columns and many many rows. It is quite long. I need to add a special divider (border) between each td cell. I thought I could create a css style .border_right and apply it to all td cells using jquery addClass() and then remove the class from the fourth td cell in each row so it does not add to or affect the outside border of the table.

My question is, how do I remove the class from the fourth td of each row using jQuery? I figure there has to be a shortcut way (one or two lines) to do this using jQuery so I don't have to manually add a 'class="border-right"' to each td I need it on.
