I have come across a very interesting problem that seems to be impossible to solve. Basically a web application that I am working on relies on a JavaScript function called go to change the input named view to the page name and submit the form. This form's type is post, so no values are included in the actual URL string. There is also another input called action and it's value is view. This is to tell the application that the user would like to view a page. The problem is because of the variables being of method post, page refreshes and back and forwards return errors because the post variables view and action aren't sent with the required data. To somewhat solve this problem I have created a feature that tells the application that if the post value page is empty then to try and get a GET var called page. To insert this var into the go javascript function I simple add this code
document.go.action = document.go.action+"&page="+page;
This line basically adds &page=[page] to the action of the form. The problem is, this code doesn't work because action is also the name of a form element. Referencing document.go.action refers to the input element named action and not to the form's action. Changing the named of the action input value is out of the question (Way to much changing of code, and possible room for error). What can I do to change the action of the form without referencing the input named action. Here is my go form and the JavaScript code:
<form name="go" action"index.php?sid=123" method="post">
<input type="hidden" name="action" value="view" />
<input type="hidden" name="view" value="" />
</form>
[Code]....

I have a very weired problem (which is not easy to describe.. but I'll do my best):I have a html page with several forms , only one of the got the action="ComputeAndReturn" and the other forms got only name="" tag.the problem is that after i submit the form with the action , and than after a computatioon it returns to the original page, now... if i will submit any of the forms without the action=.they will act as if they were defined action="ComputeAndReturn" (altho they are not!)if they were defined from the first time with action="anything", and than i would submit the form with action="ComputeAndReturn" this problem would not appear (the other forms will keep their action="anything" and would not "imitate" the action= "Compute AndReturn" to them selfs...
any ideas how can i keep my forms without action="" , cause all i need them to do is be submitted to pass the submitted value to other form inside that page.[code]

I am building a custom validator. I don't want any suggestions on using a jQuery framework, i just want to ask a few question on how best to continue.
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
//Validator Strings And Expressions.
var Letters = /^[A-Za-z]+$/;
[Code].....
This is the "on page" validation. This, as you can see calls functions held in an included file onkeyup. This all works well, also the username check ajax call works great. However I have 2 questions that I need to sort before this will work correctly.
1. Using M_USERNAME form as an example. If I start typing in there it will begin validating, which is great, However, if i typed in "matt_thomas" based on the validations, Empty:Pass, ValidChars:Fail, Range:Pass, Check:Pass.
So I know that it isn't empty, it's the correct length and it's not already in the DB. But it fails because of the "_". This should mean that I receive the error i have setup for that failure. But I don't. Because I don't stop on a Fail, I receive the success message of the last function.
So my question is; How Can I stop running any more functions when one fails?
2. Looking at the above code, How can I make sure that a submit will only work when ALL fields validate correctly?

If button is clicked, want form to be validated. If the validation passes then bring up print dialogue
I have got the validation (using dreamweaver) working, however if the form is correct , how do I get the print dialogue (window.print()) to appear?
here's the code
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/JavaScript">
<!--
function MM_findObj(n, d) { //v4.01
var p,i,x; if(!d) d=document; if((p=n.indexOf("?"))>0&&parent.frames.length) {
d=parent.frames[n.substring(p+1)].document; n=n.substring(0,p);}

I'm working on a website where users can add films to a film directory through a form. One of the fields that can be filled in is a "Release date" field, where a correct release date can be filled in. The form uses dropdown boxes for selecting the date; this is much less confusing in terms of how to format the date than if one would just use a text input field. Here's a screen shot:[URL]..
I've been looking for a Javascript script that does three things:
1) Validate the entered date (i.e. no "31st of February" dates).
2) Check whether the date entered doesn't exceed today's date (so no release date in the future is allowed). This could be combined with PHP to find the today date.
3) If the "I don't know the release date" box is checked, simply skip the whole validation process (no need to validate something that won't be used).
I've been looking for Javascript code that does this, and I found a couple of scripts (like this one) [URL].. /date_validation.asp), but they all make use of text input fields where the user has to input it in a certain format (mm/dd/yyyy et cetera). This is not what I'm looking for, but having zero knowledge of Javascript I am completely unable to write my own code or adapt this code to what I want.
I already figured out the PHP that does all of the above, but I would also very much like to have some code that checks the date before the data is processed so that users who have made a mistake don't have to fill in the whole form a second time.

I'm wondering if there is a way to check if a form is valid withouttriggering UI feedback for invalid fields in the form? I tried boththe $('#myform').valid() and validator.form() methods, but they bothtrigger the UI.

I have a form that is passed to itself. I was just wondering if there was a way to get this to validate before it passed to itself.I was assuming that as the form doesn't properly submit, I could not use onsubmit="return sValidation()", so I have it on the buttons onclick. Correct assumption or not? Is there a way round this at all and to get it to validate?
<form action="" method="post" name="searchform" >

I am helping someone out with a form. He wants the name required, easy enough, but then only an email or street address required. I have tried a couple of things and it is not working.
I am trying a very simple code:
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function validate_form ( )
{
valid = true;
if ( document.contact_form.name_mailing.value == "" )
{
alert ( "Please fill in the 'Your Name' box." );
valid = false;
}
if ( document.contact_form.address_mailing.value == "" || document.contact_form.email_address.value == "")
{
alert ( "Please fill in the 'Your Information' box." );
valid = false;
}
return valid;
}
//-->
</script>
Am I not using the or operator correctly? I only want to have the address or email required, not necessarily both.

I have a form with a few text boxes which need to be validated client-side.
The validation is: check that every single text box has a unique string value.
I.e., I need to check that there are no two textboxes that both contain,
for example, the string 'hello'.
Is there an efficient way to do this kind of validation in javascript?

This script allows you to replay the event-controls coded on your INPUT tags.
You must have a <div id="msgErreur"></div> in your HTML page.
PS : I'm working for an Intranet Webapp. All the users are on IE6.
So i don't mind with NS compatibility
-----------------
// Wait the end of load before manipulating elements
window.onload=doLoad;
function doLoad() {
if (document.forms.length > 0) {
for(i=0;i<document.forms.length;i++) { document.forms[i].onsubmit=doSubmit; }
}
}
function doSubmit() {
if (document.all["msgErreur"]!=null) {
if (document.forms.length > 0) {
message=document.all.msgErreur.innerText;
message=''
for(i=0;i<document.forms.length;i++) {
for(j=0;j<window.document.forms[i].elements.length;j++) {
cible=window.document.forms[i].elements[j];
if (target.value!='') {
cible.fireEvent("onchange");
cible.fireEvent("onfocus");
cible.fireEvent("onblur");
if (message!='') {return false;}
}
}
}
}
}

I have some checkboxes in a form that I'd like to validate (check to ensure that at least one has been ticked):
HTML Code:
<input type="checkbox" name="response[]" value="answer1" />answer1
<input type="checkbox" name="response[]" value="answer2" />answer2
<input type="checkbox" name="response[]" value="answer3" />answer3
<input type="checkbox" name="response[]" value="answer4" />answer4
The javascript below only works if I change my checkbox names to name="response" rather than name="response[]".
Code:
function validateform(){
var success = false;
for (i = 0; i < document.surveyform.response.length; i++){
if (document.surveyform.response[i].checked){
success = true;
}} return success;
}
I need to pass along multiple checkbox responses to my PHP script and therefore need to keep checkboxes named name="response[]". When I do this, I get the error "document.surveyform.response has no properties"
What change I can make to the javascript so that I can name my checkboxes name="responses[]" ?
