Using Multi-Instance Of Code On Same Page
Sep 1, 2011
I have found a great bit of javascript that I want to use on my site but I want to use it three times on the same page. If you look at [URL] you see three pictures at the bottom I want to make them change but the first only has four images the second has five and the third has three so I want to use the same code below on them all separatly.
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
// Flexible Image Slideshow- By JavaScriptKit [URL]
// For this and over 400+ free scripts, visit JavaScript Kit-[URL]
// This notice must stay intact for use
var ultimateshow=new Array()
//ultimateshow[x]=["path to image", "OPTIONAL link for image", "OPTIONAL link target"]
ultimateshow[0]=['images/rotate/tattoos/main-tattoo1.jpg', '', '']
ultimateshow[1]=['images/rotate/tattoos/main-tattoo2.jpg', '', '']
ultimateshow[2]=['images/rotate/tattoos/main-tattoo3.jpg', '', '']
//configure the below 3 variables to set the dimension/background color of the slideshow .....

I am creating a very content rich news/media website that requires an audio player. The audio player should be seen by the user as soon as they enter the website and the playlist should play throughout their time spent at the website and should not be restarted or stopped when navigating the website.
We originally were using a frameset for the audio player, but the fact that none of the pages through out the site could be reached through a link in the URL bar proved to be too much of an issue.
So the new idea was to open the audio player in a javascript pop-up window. But because of the nature of the website, we found that it was very common for users to go "back" in their browser to the homepage after they had navigated away, which would cause the pop-up code to be activated again and would make the pop-up reload, interrupting the audio.
So then we moved the pop-up code to the splash page so that when you enter the main page, its already open, and it can't be interrupted. But THEN we found that the pop-up window was of course opened behind the main website's window, which made it hidden and useless.
So we currently have no solutions! All we need is for this pop-up window to take focus and be the very top window, and once its opened to never be reloaded/refreshed again.

I am trying to make a gui for clients to edit a php page that displays html and javascript.
I want the user to be able to move html elements around and even edit it like add effects like fade in and out etc.
Then after all the changes I want to overwrite the existing php file that does this for that user. how can you make such changes and then save it to a file?
It's an html / javascript editor but using a gui instead of allowing them to directly touch the code. It would be a security risk if I allow such a thing. So I need to program a interface that would make such changes and save them to file.
Like how can you delete and add new javascript code to the file?

I would like to have a main form (written in PHP) that has a "lookup" button next to a text field. When the user clicks "lookup", it should open a new window that lets them search (child.page1). When they enter a name or DOB into the search form, it submits the form through PHP (via POST), to a results page (child.page2). This displays all persons in the database which have a name or DOB == to the search term(s), with a checkbox next to each match. They click the checkbox (or alternenatively, a link), and return the checkbox value to the main window.
I have everything working right now, except that (child.page2) doesn't recognize the main window. If the data is entered on (child.page1), it works fine. I'm not very familiar with javascript.. is this even possible? I've considered using frames, to keep the parent-child relationship evident to the computer, but figured I'd check to see if there's an easier way.

Based on the lack of responses to the last hole (which I am attributing to one of the following:
a. The hole being too difficult,
b. It being overly time consuming, or
c. People not wanting to do it)
I have decided to take a step back for this hole.
Create a Javascript include function. This function should include a javascript file (when given a URL) into the current page assuming it wasn't already included in the page (either via the include function call or by HTML). If the file is already included the function should just return.
This function should either take a file name/ path to file or a full URL as a parameter. If it is a filename/ path the function should include the file from the base URL of the current site (such as [url]). If it is a full URL just include it.
Make sure you don't allow files to be included multiple times, we don't want that!

Using the following code example from Scott Robbin, which simply allows for separate html pages to slide in and out of the one screen, I wanted to expand this by sliding in some DHTML.
Here is the page-sliding code used: [url]
DHTML animated code: [url]- [url]
But, at best, only the images show, placed still and next to each other. As you will see the DHTML is a rotating set of imagery. Something in the page-sliding code seems to be preventing that DHTML animation from displaying as it should. Like I said the images will be recognised, but they don't display - I've even tried hard linking to the images.
Here's my page: [url]
Here's the page which I have on my server, the one I would like to have slide in: [url]
To see the sliding animation click the bottom "What cachet does" option that slides the right hand pane in.

My ultimate goal is to have multiple instances of the Timer() Object running at once. While the code below works it only allows me to create 1 instance of the Timer() Object with the name of tmp. I have the following code running in FireFox 1.5 (a remote XUL
application):
var req = new XMLHttpRequest();
// execution will block until request is
completed
// third param set to false makes request
synchronous
req.open(strMethod, uriTarget, false);
if(strMethod == "POST") {
req.setRequestHeader('Content-Type','application/x-www-form-urlencoded;
charset=UTF-8');
}
req.onreadystatechange = function () {
if (req.readyState == 4) {
if(req.status == 200) {
strResult = req.responseText;
xmlResult = req.responseXML;
}
else {
strLastError = uriTarget + " returned http error code " +
req.status + "
" + req.statusText;
if(intVerbosity > 1) throw new Error(strLastError);
}
}
}
req.onerror = function() {
strLastError = uriTarget + " fetch failed while " +
arrReadyState[req.readyState];
if(intVerbosity > 1) throw new Error(strLastError);
}
req.send(strRequest);
By the time it gets to req.send() (at the bottom) all the callback
functions like req.onerror still have values of null. I've verified
this using the Venkman debugger with req as a watch variable.
the code is clearly assigning functions to those callback function
objects. Any idea why they are all turning up null?

I have a javascript object which dynamically generates a table adding, deleting and moving rows as the user clicks on buttons or links. Problem is when I generate a table row and add the javascript method call to my class, I have to put the object instance name variable of the class in order for it to be called from the onclick=function(). This is seriously limiting, but I'm stuck for a way round it. Heres a edited of the code so you get the idea....
Instantiating the object :-
var dtl = new DynamicTableList("table1", $
{myObject.allFieldsAsJavaScriptArray}, true, true, true);
My javascript class DynamicTableList, note the dtl javascript object
instance variable being referred to in the addRow function. How can I
avoid this???
function DynamicTableList(thisObjName, tableName, options, showDelete,
showUp, showDown)
{
this.processRow = function(r, row, up, down)
{
...
};
this.processRows = function()
{
...
};
this.getVisibility = function(visible)
{
...
};
this.delRow = function(button)
{
...
};
this.addRow = function(selection)
{
...
if (showDelete)
{
var cell2 = document.createElement('TD');
var inp2 = document.createElement('IMG');
/
************************************************** ***********************************************/
inp2.onclick=function(){dtl.delRow(this);} // Have to specify
dtc!!!!!!!!
/
************************************************** ***********************************************/
inp2.title='Delete'
inp2.alt='Delete'
inp2.src='images/delete.gif'
cell2.appendChild(inp2);
row.appendChild(cell2);
}
...
tbody.appendChild(row);
this.processRows();
};
this.moveRow = function(node, vector)
{
};
}
Obviously the code dtl.delRow(this); is being dynamically generated, but how do I replace the dtl instance name with something that'll work whatever the user of this class calls the instance of it!

I have a client, let's call them "BuyNow." They would like for every instance of their name throughout the copy of their site to be stylized like "BuyNow," where the second half of their name is in bold.
I'd really hate to spend a day adding <strong> tags to all the copy. Is there a good way to do this using jQuery?

I was looking in the firebug debugger and noticed that my main .js file was somehow being called twice, but I don't see where. There are dozens of files involved in this particular problem, so I think the best way to go about solving it is to test - in run time - if my js file is already in place on the page, do nothing - otherwise call it. This is pseudo that I have monkeying around with but it's not working.
Code:
function checkFile() {
var fileExist = new fileExist();
fileExist.onLoad = isPresent;
[code]....
I thought this would work, perhaps it's because of an argument I need to pass in to checkFile(ZYX) but not sure.

I need to change the background-image (or possibly background-position) property of each new instance of a div with a particular class. I will have a set of images to choose from, or could create a sprite with all of the images.
Example:
Code:
<div class="desc">content</div> **needs background-image: url(pic1.jpg)
<div class="desc">content</div> **needs background-image: url(pic2.jpg)
...
etc.
The page code is dynamically generated from our CMS, so can't change the HTML.
