Using Java To Write To Text Files.
Jul 23, 2005I am relatively new to java and have already tried many ways to write
to text files with Java. Is there any way to write to a text file
without overwriting what is already there??

This is a weird idea I have- i will try to explain it all (forgive me if i do not).
i'm using xml to create dynamic content on the site i'm building for myself.
now, i know there is a way to randomly load xml content using php-
but i have zero experience with php (though i not afraid to learn it, if it is the only way to do this).
here's what i want to do:
i have (let's say) 4 "announcement" areas on a page, in addition to a "random info" bar off to the side. in each of these, i want to have randomly loaded xml content each time the page is refreshed/viewed.
so if i have a "recent site news" section on the page, i would have a folder for "some code" to look in to pull out an xml file to display. etc etc.
basically, i'm wondering if there is a java way to do this (perhaps similar to the choosePic function?). it doesn't have to load a different xml file each time the page is refreshed either- if there's a way to pick a set number of items from any xml file i specify- that would be ok too.
I have designed a mail service in java.In my compose page,i want to attach some excel files of text files and to send it.After sending i want to store it my database.Then how can i download or open that file after opening that recipient mail inbox.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to write a class that dynamically loads scripts and css files, but ran into a problem I just can't seem to solve. Below is a simplified version of the class:
Code:
function DynamicResources(baseUrl)
{
this.baseUrl = baseUrl;
}
DynamicResources.prototype.loadScript = function(file, onLoad)
[Code]...
The loadScripts function should keep track of the scripts that have finished loading by removing them from the loadingFiles array. The problem is, that the changes made to the array in one call to the local function fileLoaded won't show up in the next call (no elements are ever deleted). I suspect this has something to do with scoping rules, but I can't quit get a grip on it.
I am running the code below linked in from an external .js linked in this way code...

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am looking at a client’s site that has a scrolling text bar at the bottom of the page for latest news. I have been asked to recommend whether they keep the scrolling text as a java applet or whether they make it dhtml with Javascript to make it scroll.
To be honest, I’m not sure whether there really is an important difference, in terms of download time, likelihood of working (if client browsers are better enabled for one verses the other), or whether there are any other reasons one should be used over the other.
I have a website which contains pdf files of old school magazines. I can search individual files for strings using the Acrobat reader seach facility and I can use the Windows search facility to find files containing particular texts.
What I would like to do is put a facility on the website so the user can search and locate a text string in the whole group of files, perhaps going directly to the individual pages (of the pdf file). if this is feasible using javascript?
Alright so this is the case:
So what happens is, that Firefox shows it correctly, but in IE it just writes ALL of the raw XML file data straight in a row (it does not use the stylesheet) why?
I have been trying so many solutions already. Could there be something in the XSL file that IE rejects but Firefox allows to be shown?
First of all, let me tell you that this is not a homework question, since i am no longer in college, i don't get homework. Ok now to the question => Can you please give me a little example java script to open and save text files
View 6 Replies View RelatedCould anyone link me to an example of how to read a text file into a javascript variable using mootools or jquery(or explain it yourself)? Mootools would be preferred because my jquery framework is a little archaic.
I can't find a very comprehensive example only directions for how to make requests and the examples don't explain how to use the input. Oh and I'll be using this script on my website and the text file will be located on the same server.
I've been working in VBA for quite some time, and would like to make some of my scripts available through a browser. One script will open a text file, parse it, and then commit the parsed results into an object. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this task in js...
In VBA, the code would be something like:
Code:
Is there a javascript code so that you can disable a textarea but parts of the page can still add to the textarea if your peter i mean about the other javascripts you told me. Sorry if this is confusing just ask me and i will rewrite it

I'm looking for a way to have a single, random line fetched from multiple text files, and then have that combination output somewhere, whether just to some field or another text file.
For example:
Text file A -
Text file B -
Text file C -
So it would go in, get a line from each, and display something like:
I know it's a weird-sounding example, but you get the point. The line choices don't have to be separated by hyphens, but they preferably would be separated by something, like a comma, semi-colon, slash, whatever.
I know this is pretty much a web coding forum, so that would be fine if I had to host it on my server or open it with a browser. But it would be optimal if this could be made into a standalone executable.
I'm basically looking for something like Random Line Picker [url], just with the added functionality I mentioned.
I'd be willing to make a little donation to someone if coding this would be a little difficult.
how do i write variable value into text file from jaavscript ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to know how to do things.
1. I would like to know how i would code a javascript so if i edit the text inside of either a certain div or in the javascript document itself (which ever would work, would like to have it take the text from a div but not too picky) and then have it write that text in other parts of the same page and other pages by like putting a javascript code in it's place or however you would do it. Basically if i write "hello world" in the div/javascript document, it will write "hell world" in multiple places just from me editing that one part. ok so help with this would be awsome.
My second thing.2. I would like to take and use some javascript function, such as document.write or what ever to do pretty much the same thing as my first thing as my first problem, but with a div, for like a navigation bar or etc.

I have two input boxes on a form which receive the first and last name of a user. I want to be able to use charAt() to get the first letter in each box and pass it to a third box on the same form. Is this doable?I was thinking something like the function below would be the starting point --I stand correct, as it is not working.
<script type="text/javascript">
var str="Mossa";
<!--document.write(str.charAt(0));-->
document.write('<INPUT TYPE=text size=2 VALUE="str.charAt(0);">');
var str="Barandao";
